It’s week two of the new year. I’m continuing my slow pace to get back into things while still cranking out daily content for the most part. I feel like a ship sailing into dense fog not knowing what lies on the other side of the veil. Perhaps, I need some good music to get myself in the groove with my Top Ten Tuesday song picks about a month after my 10th birthday with these Billboard Hot 100 hits from January 1972.
Now for some tickles with an assortment of random humor I had stashed away just waiting to be used.
Alrighty, it’s time to grab a cup of coffee to follow along as I head off to visit Sandee for some Happy Tuesdays giggles at Comedy-Plus, then I’ll check out Random Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked, and finishing things up by checking out this week’s word prompt found at Eugi’s Causerie for the wannabe poet buried inside. That’s a wrap for now but come back tomorrow for Wild Wednesdays where just about anything goes! 😉

Those jokes are funny especially that first one..made me laugh out loud. I enjoyed listening to these songs you posted and how different some are from Sly to David Cassidy which I actually enjoyed. What a shame how his life turned out. “I like to Teach…” is one I always loved and heard it first on a Coca-Cola commercial. It was a brilliant ad. Have a great rest of the week.
Excellent tunes selection, Cathy, and I love the funnies, especially the husband relaxing outside. 😂😘
I am really into The New Seekers here in 2022. Your Top Ten List is very cool. I bought 3 of those 45 rpm records, back in the day. Don’t get me started on 8-Tracks…
I have a great Al Green story I will tell you, later. I have to run now.
That was a good week in music, wasn’t it, even with the terrible trio (Michael Jackson, David Cassidy, and Donny Osmond)?
We always enjoyed Melanie’s unique voice! Those were good funnies, idiots are everywhere!
Love the funnies and the tunes to read by!
Tee hee- great funnies and music!
Love the playlist and most I remember. I love the songs from long ago.
Oh the funnies. Love them all and the winning the argument one made me laugh out loud.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Love and hugs. ♥
Hi, Cathy!
Happy TMT, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a great weekend.
Thanks for flashing us back in time 50 years to January, 1972. It’s always a pleasure to review the soundtracks of our youth and fine tune the timeline so that we accurately remember which hit songs were charting at the same time. I remember the pre-Disco years of the early 70s as a time when light rock, easy listening pop songs by teen idols, mewsic with religious themes and new age folk songs like that Coke jingle prevailed. That being the case, it isn’t my favorite time period for mewsic, nor is the Disco era that followed, but bands like Alice Cooper, Kiss and Aerosmith helped fill the void until the 80s arrived and the mewsic scene underwent a welcome revival.
I well remember “Brand New Key.” I must admit that I found it to be an irritating song back then and still don’t like it very much, even in its current remastered state. Whenever “American Pie” started playing on the radio, you knew you were in for an 8.5 minute ride. It’s an unusually long song, and brings to mind a few other long running singles. “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who, released the previous year, has a running time of 8:32. “Stairway To Heaven,” charting around the same time frame as Don McLlean’s opus,, runs 8:02. “Hey Jude,” the 1968 Beatles single, ran 7:11 and “Hocus Pocus” by Focus, a U.S. hit in 1973, has a TRT of 6:42. “Family Affair” is a great song by Sly and his Family Stone. The group was very hot for a few years, but unfortunately faded. The Rev. Al Green is one of my favorite artists, performing the Hi Records style of smooth southern R&B/soul. Mrs. Shady and I bought his single “Let’s Stay Together” and I bought an entire CD anthology of Hi Records original recordings. Thanks for reminding me of the hit instrumental ‘Scorpio.” I also had that 45 in my collection. It cooks. I wasn’t aware that David Cassidy covered “Cherish” or that it was a top 10 hit. I do however remember Donny’s cover of Hey Girl.”
I enjoyed your Tickle Me Tuesday Sillies. That guy in the first cartoon looks like me in the morning before I’ve consumed a pot of black coffee. That’s a great one with the bees listening to records. I’ll bet they enjoy listening to “killer bees,” the flip sides of records, just like the Dell rats did. The cartoon showing the hubby sleeping outdoors on the driveway with his dog is spot-on. I’ve learned the hard way that you can never really win an argument with Mrs. Shady. 🙂
Thanks for the morning mewisical interlude and the funnies, dear friend Cathy. Have a great day and I’ll see you tamale!
Cathy, I just thought of two more long songs, much longer than the ones I previously listed. Rare Earth’s version of “Get Ready” runs 21:32, taking up the entire side 2 of their second album. “Revelation,” a song by Arthur Lee’s LA-based psychedelic rock band Love, also takes up the entire side two of their album, Da Capo, and runs 18:57. I owned both albums and played those long songs often!
Tom,
Holy smoke, a song that runs for more than 21 minutes? I didn’t know such a thing existed. I’m not sure that I remember any of these mentioned. I will hop over to YT to listen to them. Thanks!
