Good day, kittens & dawgs! We have a new neighbor. He’s one of those guys you don’t see too often, but by chance you do happen to see him out for a walk then it’s such a nice treat.
It’s so funny how things sorta line up for ya. I knew precisely what music I wanted to share with you today (in keeping with my alpha prompt) and then Grady showed up making my theme choice even all the more perfect!
In 1980 one of the funnest comedies hit the big screen, Caddyshack, with a lot of familiar faces ~ Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield, and Ted Knight. The story plot is kinda quirky. It involves an exclusive golf course, a business deal, a kid wanting to get a higher education, a crazy groundskeeper, and a very elusive, dancing gopher. Packed with clever LOL one-liners in this flick that rolled off the lips casually by funny men: Chase, Dangerfield, and Murray makes this is a must see movie for the first time or second or third. It’s just another example of how wonderful things were in the 80s because after all…that’s when we had a real president in office. Life was good for us all in America. 😀
Here’s an interesting tidbit: Grady swears to it that Mr. Gopher (from Caddyshack) is his dad’s brother and he has no reason to lie to me. Okay, Grady has no reason to lie to me, but…I’m gonna give you a reason to lie to me. 😉 Last week, I spotted the below picture one of my Facebook friends shared.
This was a lot of fun. Any who, I thought why not carry this over to my blog friends. Yeah, I know we truly haven’t met and that’s ok. This is part of the big lie. It’s gonna be fun to see how inventive y’all are. Don’t forget to sign on for comment notifications because I’m gonna respond with my own little spin to your answer. So, you know what to do. Get creative, it’s okay to lie this one time, and have fun! It’s time to buckle up and hit the road with these cool cats! Wanna join me for the ride?
So….how did we meet?

Hi Cathy. Of course you remember that special safari in 1987? I was traveling with Ledbetter shoes, seeking new skins for the fall fashion boots. You were with that group from Spain, intent upon finding a grand lion to make a fur coat! We converged upon the same quaint village and sat by the fire, snacking on chocolate covered ants, turtle soup, and Bugle chips – you remember, I know. It was during the starry night filled sky, we discovered we didn’t want to hunt animals for gain. We rented a local sedan, carried by 18 villagers and left our prospective employers. Early the next morning we awoke to the sound of three baby elephants playing. Such a thrilling sight, and we swore to never reveal where we saw them – lest someone capture them for circus play. It was such an incredible journey, and ever since that time, I’ve always known that “you’re alright – nobody worry about you!!”
How’s that for a tall tale?
Dixie, every time I walk by a shoe store I think of you and that starry night long ago by the fire! Our spontaneous decision to ditch the assignment given to us by our employers and get out of Dodge so-to-speak was the best thing I ever did. I think what did it for me was learning the how ranchers were beginning to experiment with animal mutation for sports hunting. What’s the point? God didn’t create these animals to be different, so what gave man the right? Oh well…that really burns my biscuits. I’m happy to be out of that line of work, but did you know that I’m a freelance photographer now, so instead of shooting animals with a gun I use my camera. Isn’t that an irony? Anywho, I’m currently on location for Wild Life Magazine in the Rockies. I’m anxious to catch my first mountain lion sighting, too! Yesterday, a big horned sheep crossed my path and it was pretty amazing to see. I got some incredible pictures. The Rocky Mountains make an excellent backdrop! Hey, I have a great idea! I have an assignment next month with Travel and Leisure to shoot resort photos, wanna come with? I’ve never been before, but it’s a little piece of paradise on earth I’m told. 😀
I love your tale tale, Dixie ~ totally creative! It was fun to put my spin on it.
Love Caddyshack!! classic funny movie. your new neighbour is pretty cute – but I hope he doesn’t dig too much in your yard.
Of course you and I met when we joined that big rock band on their World Tour!!! Oh the fun we had traveling on the tour bus playing road trip games, and singing along with all their hit songs backstage, and dancing on speakers. ha!!! 😉
Les, I haven’t seen Grady in the yard yet, but I doubt that he can hurt it much. lol Actually it might be a good idea, if he did…in the right places. lol We have horrible hard clay soil and to break the ground feels like digging up concrete.
I tell you, Les meeting you saved the day because my BFF abandoned me in the 9th hour and I was so bummed. I kept thinking, “What have I gotten myself into?!” The thing that caught my eye about you was you were wearing glittery, hot pink ear protective wear, and I thought a girl after my own heart. I think that’s about the time you noticed my fuzzy purple ear-gear. We smiled at once and boogied toward each other. No talking was needed (not that what could understand it anyhow). We knew at that instant, a new friendship was forged. The giggles and sing-out-loud fun on the road trip was a crazy good time. It might have the best part of the how experience. Okay, it was hilarious to see how some people got wasted losing their senses (sometimes their clothes, too) completely. You and I were the only ones to keep a clear head and out of trouble. Oh yeah, we were the only ones who didn’t have to have stuff repeated thanks to our smart thinking with the ear protection ~ preserving our hearing for our golden years. lol 😀
You know, I’ve never seen Caddyshack. Heard of it though. Obviously. (I’d have had to be living under a rock to have never heard of it.)
Sorry, terrible at lying. And the brain is a bit fried. Can’t come up with a good “how we met” story…
Liz, Caddyshack is a quirky 80s humorous film with some nudity, a little language, and a whole lot of laughs. If you like the starring comedians, then you’ll enjoy this movie. No worries about trying to come up with something off the cuff about how we met. You’re welcome to add something later, if it comes to you. It’s tricky to plop a story down off the top of your head. I didn’t think I could do it, until I saw this little impromptu on my FB friend’s wall and I had such fun doing it! Why not steal the idea for a blog post of your own! It’ll be great fun to see what your friends write. 😉
I love your neighbor. He has such a cute face 😉
