Hello, Kitten & Dawgs, during DH’s period of unemployment we got hooked on the popular AMC “The Walking Dead”. I could use this TV series theme either now or wait until the end of the alphabet. Being a bit impatient I decided to roll it out for today’s sketching. W is for the walking dead!
While I searched “W” ideas to draw I somehow came upon instructions on how to draw waves from which I sketched these two pictures to share.
Between the two, I think I prefer the second one the best. What do you think? Do you have a favorite?
WOW, me with your “W-spired” ideas for me to put pencil to paper with for next “W” sketch! If I use yours then when I share my newest creation, I’ll give you credit with a link back to your site!
Hopefully, what I share with you every day will encourage you to do something that interests you that you’ve long put off because like me you just don’t think you can. My advice is, just do it! Maybe, you’ll be surprised. I know I was! 🙂
I’m heading off to link up with other fellow AtoZers and you’re invited to come along. I’ll see you on tomorrow for the next installment of Art Sketching through the Alphabet!

I don’t like looking at the walking dead….second wave is definitely your best.
Nice looking zombie! Might I suggest next time an eyeball hanging out of the socket? Those always make me go “eeeeek!” Good job with the A to Z Challenge. You make me want to draw!
Diane,
I’ll make a note to draw a zombie with its eyeball hanging out. 🙂 It may be awhile before I get around to sketching another one, though. Thanks for the suggestion!
I prefer waves
Mike,
I prefer waves to the walking dead, too. Well…I do love TWD TV series, though.
geez, you captured my hubby in the morning before his first cup of coffee. I think you did quite well with both wave drawings but I also prefer the second one
Great zombie, love the expression. I like the second wave too though both are good. Great sense of movement.
I like the second wave batter, not sure why. Other W ideas… wine bottle, wisteria (because I like flowers), watermelon slice, walnut. Hmm seems I am getting hungry, maybe I should fix that.
I have a hard time getting behind the walking dead, but I think you did a pretty good sketch! Of the wave drawings, I prefer the second one.
Those came out great.
I love your drawings. I prefer the second one of waves. And I just love your kitty! 🙂 W is for Watch the Wordcount as you Build a Better Blog. #AtoZchallenge.
Shirley, The second waves illustration seems to not only be my favorite but others as well. Thank you for stopping by today!
The Walking Dead sketch is very scary. I needed the waves to calm me down even though they do look quite angry!
Another day in Amble Bay!
Keith, Just imagine the waves are washing the Walking Dead far, far away. lol Thank you for visiting!
That’s a convincingly scary Zombie, Cathy. 😀 Crashing waves are so majestic and you’ve captured them well, especially in the second sketch. You’ve already sketched lots of lovely women, but that’s the only ‘W’ that comes to mind at the moment.
Debbie, I like both wave sketches better than my zombie illustration. Although my walking dead creature is a good monster it’s not exactly like the walking dead in the series. I may have to try this again. BTW, I almost went with women but since I had drawn a few already then I passed on the idea.
Having never seen ‘The Walking Dead’, I wouldn’t know that. 🙂 I thought he looked pretty convincing.
Ahhhh You have sort of struck one of my things to do on my bucket list. I would love to see blue water, the ocean and even swim in it. I’ve never seen blue water ever in my life except for the stuff in pools, but that’s not the blue water I want to see. I want to see the ocean with big blue waves and watch surfers and stuff like that. It would be soooooo awesome. As far as your walking dead… nope… definitely not for me. That’s nightmare stuff and I have enough problems sleeping. hahahaha Great job though girlfriend & yes, I like your second wave the best too! Have a great day girlfriend. BIG HUGS
Marie, I hope you can visit the shore to see the waves crash against the shore. It’s pretty amazing to see in person and so loud! lol My favorite place is Sandy Beach in Acadia National Park. Talk about loud, the waves should like thunder when the water breaks against the shore – totally awesome! Thanks for stopping by for a visit, my friend!
Walking dead has a lot of fun (and scary) potential for drawings. I especially like paintings of waves–I’ve seen some lovely ones.

Lee,
Living in sunny California then I say you have a great opportunity to visit the beach and take in beautiful sunrises/sunsets and waves crashing against the shore. I hope we can see the Pacific shoreline someday, especially Big Sur country! Thanks for stopping by, my friend!
Neither my wife nor I care much for the beach so we rarely go there and when we do it’s usually in a touristy area like Venice Beach where there is a boardwalk and a lot of unique people to see.
We should probably go to some of the more scenic beach areas, but we don’t get out much unless we’re away on a road trip. Kind of sad in a way.

Lee, We aren’t beach people, either, but it’s nice to see a few times in your life and if we lived near one then we certainly would incorporate day trips to enjoy the parts of the beach that interest us most. You guys definitely need to get out to see the scenic wonders along the California coastline. After all, you said you want to one day move back home in your retirement years so take advantage of the area you’re in! Now, that I’ve given you a little nudge, get a picnic basket ready and head out this weekend for some fun! 🙂
Scary! Happy A-to-Z-ing.
Ronel, I hope this doesn’t give you nightmares now. 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
Hi, Cathy!
Wonderful wonderful wonderful! As you might know, I love zombies, and your Walking Dead sketch is scary as can be. From angels through Victorian women you managed to draw eyes that are kind and gentle on both people and animals. This time you did a fine job of capturing the malice in the eyes of the flesh eating zombie. Your sketch triggered a childhood memory. When I was a boy I was so fascinated with monsters that I often made sketches of them as you did here. The Walking Dead is another TV series that I will need to watch by myself because Mrs. Shady keeps turning thumbs down on it for no good reason.
The waves are marvelous, too, Cathy. All it takes is a little imagination to add color and motion to the scene and I’m there. Body surfing was one of my favorite activities when the family vacationed at the seashore. I spent many hours per day riding waves like the ones your drew.
Thank you very much for a delightful W post, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
The Walking Dead series is excellent. We turned our thumbs down to it for years. Our kids kept telling us to watch it and everyone on the net was talking about it but it didn’t hold any appeal. While DH was laid off we started the series and after watching a few episodes we were hooked. Mrs. S would like this program more than she thinks I’m sure! I’ve only played in the ocean a few times. I’m not a huge fan of deep water and while I wasn’t out very far the rolling waves made me a bit apprehensive. I did do a little body boarding in the early 90s while vacationing in Myrtle Beach. These days I’m content to just watch the waves from the beach. Thanks for visiting, my friend!
I was sitting here trying to think of other Ws for you… and was coming up blank. then i realised my post had an idea- Witches – witches can be of many types and fun to draw
Sketching a witch would be good. The evil Queen in Snow White disguised herself as an old haggard that resembles a witch. Why didn’t I think of that? Thanks for the suggestion!
I like the second wave sketch better. Waves are fascinating. I have photos of some on Sue’s words and pictures. Thank you for commenting on sue’s Trifles.
Sue, yeah, the waves are a nicer and more pleasant subject to sketch. The walking dead is just creepy! I’ll take a peek at your pictures. Thanks for popping over!
Well, I like the first wave drawing coz there seems to be a little more action there. How about ‘wings’ of a flying bird or a glass of ‘wine?’ 🙂

VINODINI
Vinodinii, Wings and glass of Wine…good ideas. Thanks for sharing and visiting. I’ll see you soon!
Oh, yikes…Walking Dead. How about…a Willow tree or a woodpecker? Those are a couple W’s that I do like a lot! Hugs.
Annie, yes a willow tree or woodpecker. Wonderful ideas! Thanks!
Or whiskers…cat or human!
