#AprilA2Z Art Sketching through the Alphabet “Q”

Hello, Kitten & Dawgs, I believe when leaked the mews early that I was going to do the April A-Z challenge I shared a snippet of one of my drawings of the evil Queen from Snow White and since that time I re-drew her right hand and added some details my sketch for the letter prompt, “Q”.

Hopefully, what I share with you every day will encourage you to do something that interests you that you’ve long put off because like me you just don’t think you can. My advice is, just do it! Maybe, you’ll be surprised. I know I was! 🙂

I’m heading off to link up with other fellow AtoZers and you’re invited to come along.  I’ll see you on tomorrow for the next installment of Art Sketching through the Alphabet!

  1. This is a good rendition of the evil queen and she has the look of a touch of faded beauty, evilness and star quality. I have to admit, there is some Angelina Jolie, along with the original 1937 Queen but I see a bit of Lucille Ball from her later Tv shows.

    1. Thanks, Birgit! Angelina Jolie could pull off an evil Queen pretty well but Lucille Ball not so much. lol It’s interesting that you think of both of these actresses when looking at my sketch and I guess I can see what you’re seeing a little, too.

  2. She never looked like the fairest of all to me, she was too cold and malevolent looking. You caught her very well!

    1. MessyMimi, I agree the evil Queen isn’t the fairest and never will with a cold, heartful heart. What’s on the inside really illuminates the face making one pretty or not-so-pretty to others.

  3. I would not want to cross paths with this queen. I would consider you brave to work on adding in the hands since I would rather not try to get the spindly finger right, yet you did.

  4. I love it! You did a great job! Makes me want to go get some pencils and do some sketching myself. Been a lot of years and when I did it I used color pencils. One of my sweetest friends is the sketch artist for the TBI – TN Bureau of Investigation and since he is the only one in this area he also does the sketches for the local police department on suspects. I love seeing his work. I am all about art and you got it going on.

  5. Good one my friend! I love this one for Snow White isn’t it? Or was this one Sleeping Beauty… oh boy I’m getting my stories mixed up here I think. Well, must move on I’m still setting up my computer. I have to delete everything off my old puter yet… aughhhh sure is a lot of work… but I love love love my new puter… I got the best hubby in the whole wide world…. ~hehehe~~~ Have a good one my friend!

    1. Marie, yes this is the evil Queen from Snow White. I used to get them confused, too. Is there a reason you have to delete everything off your old computer? Anytime we can get a new one, we just leave everything that’s important on it which acts as a backup. Do you have an external hard drive to do periodic backups? We learned years ago it pays to have one attached to your computer and to do a routine save of all files. You can even set your system up to do daily backups, too. I have my Macbook set to do this several times throughout the day. It doesn’t interfere with what I’m doing. I still manually back things off placing my files on more than one HD. Call me paranoid but after our Windows computer crashed in 2012 then we both make sure to leave no stone unturned to securing our digital files. 🙂 Have fun with the new computer and thanks for visiting, my friend!

  6. Giving things a ago when you think you are unable to do them can be scary. However you do learn to cope and achievements give you encouragement.

A to Z Theme: Sharing Family History via #GenealogyPhotoADay By Fran from TravelGenee Blog

    1. Fran, unfortunately for some like me, it required time to find my inner warrior to overcome the fears that stopped me from seeing my potential. Now, I feel like nothing can stop me! Thank you for visiting!

    1. Shirley, Thanks and yes, I’ll be sure to keep in touch. You offer some excellent advice on how to improve one’s blog. Have a good day, my friend!

  7. Good morning, Cathy!

Queen or Queens will most likely be a popular choice for Q-Day, and your evil queen from Snow White makes a much more interesting to sketch than a Q-Tip! 🙂 Just as you are able to draw eyes that reflect kindness and innocence, you are also good at showing the queen’s evil glare. Is it just my imagination or does your queen bear a facial resemblance to Lucille Ball? 🙂 She certainly looks intimidating and, as much as I like fruit, I would be very reluctant to accept that apple from her. 🙂 I also like the columns and other details you added in the background to flesh out the scene.

Nicely done, Cathy. Your idea to sketch your way through the alphabet is refreshingly original and delightful. Happy Thursday to you, dear friend!

    1. Tom,

Good morning, my friend! Thunderstorms are overhead Knoxville as I make my early rounds. I agree an evil queen is far more interesting to sketch than a Q-tip. 😀 As I mentioned in my response to Debbie’s comment, it was hard for me to draw a nasty character but I managed to pull it off and you’re so right my evil queen does look like Lucille Ball. It’s funny after I finished my sketch I thought she reminded me of someone but Lucy wasn’t coming to mind. I guess because when I think of Lucille Ball, I think of a funny lady and the evil queen isn’t a funny lady at all. Thank you for your daily visits. They mean so much to me, my friend. Have a good day!

    1. Ronel, The menacing eyes were easier to drawn than her spindling wicked fingers but I prevailed and did ok. Thank you for popping in today! I’ll see you soon. 🙂

    1. Debbie,

It was difficult to sketch this meaning pants. All of my illustrated figures have been pleasantly sweet. Thanks for visiting, my friend!
