Why Can’t We Be Friends? #RMF

This is the second annual Roctober Mewsic Festival hosted by Mary from Jingle Jangle Jungle and I’m happy to join along with her in the fun.

This month, I’m revisiting some of the classic 70s mewsicians and songs that either I didn’t catch the artist/band name or just forgot that I loved in my teen year. I hope you’ll stick around to enjoy some lost gems from the past.

How is it I get things turned around in my memories but I do?  Every time I think of War, I think of the song but for some reason, I thought the band War did the song.  That isn’t so, though. Edwin Starr did that song. Anywho, while looking for War hit songs from the 70s I was reminded of the 1975 #6 Billboard Hot 100 hit, ‘Why Can’t We Be Friends’ and a few others. Hit play to enjoy the funky vibe of War!

War 70s songs playlist includes: Why Can’t We Be Friends, Low Rider, The Cisco Kid, Slippin’ Into Darkness, & Summer.

That concludes today’s time machine escape but I’ll leave you with a view from Price Lake on the Blue Ridge Parkway just south of Boone, North Carolina for Wild Wednesdays and ask that you join me tomorrow for another edition of the Rocktober Mewsic Festival!

  1. I’ve always liked the music of War, but somehow I always forget the name of the band that performs it. Another good one of theirs that I like is Spill The Wine.

Still trying to catch up… hopefully, I’ll make a good dent before I get sidetracked again 🙂

  2. Oh my gosh, & I bet y ou were actually there takin’ that photo weren’t you? Wait that you & your sweetheart in that boat??? WOW, What a great place. Thanks so much for sharing, girlfriend!!! BIG HUGS & HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

    1. Marie,

We stopped to have a picnic at the overlook and afterward, I snapped a few pictures. Just about the time, I was done, the boat glided into my view making the scene picture perfect! 🙂

  3. I absolutely loved the Cisco Kid when I was younger still do I liked the photo very scenic 🙂

Have a tanfastic week Cathy some invisible tape is on it’s way to you 🙂

    1. John,

Your sentiments about War is the way I felt while pulling the list together. I kept thinking why aren’t there more songs that I like. Oh well…it’s interesting going back to discover/rediscover some of these old groups/songs.

    1. Debbie,

I barely remember the last two tracks. Thank heavens for YouTube and Wikipedia! ‘Slipping Into Darkness’ song title sounded familiar but it’s only the verse that I remember. It hit the R&B (#12) & pop (#16) charts in 1972. The mewsic arrangement of ‘Summer’ is what I remember most, not the lyrics. This song did better than the other, hitting three different charts: Hot 100 (#7), R&B (#4), & Easy Listening (#1) in 1976.

  4. What a beautiful picture with the brilliant colours of autumn. I love this song and wish I could say something more profound but I can’t. 😻

  5. Love the video and I remember it. I’m loving the visit to the 70s.

Wow on the fall colors you get. Just wow.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Sandee,

I say the fall colors are looking even better in the mountains now. That is if the wind and rain haven’t cleared the foliage which might be the case in the upper elevations. We’re seeing more color in the city and by next week some of the colors might be quite brilliant.

  6. Love that fall scene with the people paddling the canoe. It seems so cold, but it looks like something from here in Minnesota right now.

    1. The weather on this day wasn’t really too cool at all. It felt really nice. The wind even cooperated which we usually find to be a problem on the parkway this time of year. We were blessed with a great day!
