Last week I shared a few pictures taken in Banner Elk, North Carolina from our day trip last month. I’m going to put up the last of my photos from that day. In Valle Crucis is where the first Mast General Store started. When we came upon this store, we first thought it was the original MGS but it’s not. The store shingle clearly says “Annex”. It’s a pretty place nonetheless, so I snapped a few pictures. It was terribly breezy day and the wind definitely had a bite but it was so pretty.
On our way to Blowing Rock, it was just a short drive before we came to the original Mast General Store. We didn’t go in. In fact, we haven’t been in any store since the pandemic began unless it was absolutely necessary and that’s only been a handful of times. This is not one of those times. We were happy to admire the store from the outside. One day after things settle a bit, we’ll go back to the area since it isn’t a huge deal for us so we can browse through this quaint old establishment.
We drove through downtown Blowing Rock. The store fronts were all decorated pretty but there was too much traffic to pause to snap any photos and the streets were too busy to be on. We just enjoyed the drive through.

What a beautiful town. So very nice.
I enjoyed your Valley songs but had to go to youtube after Sammy Hagar because the Poison video was unavailable to me. K.D. Lang has such a great voice but I don’t hear much about her now. Olivia Newton John was soooo young there and I had to laugh at the video since this is every man’s dream. They can keep dreaming…lol. I love seeing your pics and that town you visited looks so charming, it reminds me of Niagara On The Lake near me.
What an amazing trip and love the photos! Excellent music too, my friend. Keep on keepn’ on. ❤️
Great photos. That tow looks like it is set in the 1950’s. 🙂 XO
That looks like a fun drive with a bit of back to the past.
Beautiful photos. We haven’t been in a store either since the start of the pandemic. My treatment has given me a low immunity so don’t intend taking any chances.
That’s a fun day, i’m glad you took the pics for memory’s sake.
Marvelous photos! What an amazing and fun triip!
I wish hubby and I went along with you on this wonderful adventure. Beautiful.
Love your playlist. My kind of music.
Thank you for hosting the fun.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Wild, Wacky and Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend! I hope by now LA has put the car crash incident behind her and has gone back to enjoying a carefree childhood. I also hope your daughter in Maine is feeling a lot better. I think of them often.
Thanks for posting this series of pictures taken on your latest day trip with DH to the region you both love so much, an area I also enjoyed visiting with Mrs. S and her son. These communities, with their historic buildings, signage and other touches of nostalgia, are loaded with charm. It’s ironic and a doggone shame that these peaceful towns fill with tourists, diminishing the fun of going through them.
I very much enjoyed your block of “Valley” songs. A few are familiar. For me, the find of the day is that rare film clip of ONJ, age 21, very early in her career, singing with the fictional band Toomorrow in the little known and unsuccessful British film of the same name released in the summer of 1970. I never even heard of it. “Echo Valley” by the Partridges is also new to my ears this morning, as are the songs by Queen, Sammy Hagar, Poison, k.d. lang and Fountains Of Wayne. I do remember and like Elvis Presley’s gospel-oriented song.
To your list, I would add “Valley Girl” by Frank & Moon Unit Zappa, a top 30 hit in the summer of 1982 and a biggie in my neck of the woods. Do you remember that one?
Thank you very much for taking me along on a sightseeing tour and for the excellent set of “Valley” title songs, dear friend Cathy. I’ll see you tamale when you keep your weekly Art Date with Rain!
