4M: Two New-to-Me Artists

Thank you for including me in your Monday, kittens & dawgs! Normally, I go live at midnight with my mewsic post but I decided to go back to Sundays for two reasons. One, I hope to snag the interest of newbies surfing the net today and two, to make it easier my regulars.   Let’s get things started.  I’m back on board co-hosting with the Monday’s Music Moves Me ladies – Marie, Stacy, and Colette and you’re invited to hit the dance floor with us. This week’s theme is “freebie pick – your choice“!

Today I’m sharing with you mewsic picks introduced to me by two good blogger friends in Two New-To-Me Artists!

My first selection was shared by Adventures in Weseland which I really enjoyed and I hope you do, too!

Did y’all recognize Ruben Blades? He’s an actor. Here’s what I’ve seen him in  Predator 2 (played Detective Danny Archuleta),  The X-FilesTV series (1997 episode, as Conrad Lozano ) The Devil’s Own (as Edwin Diaz), Once Upon a Time in Mexico (character – Jorge FBI),  and Safe House (played Carlos Villar). A series I want to see but haven’t that Blades stars as the main character, Daniel Salazar, is Fear of the Walking Dead. Oh, here’s an interesting factoid. According to Wikipedia Blades is considering another bid for the Panama presidency in 2019. For more Ruben Blades mewsic, check out his YouTube channel.  Thanks, Patrick!

Next up, Tina Arena is one of the highest selling Australian singers with 10M records sold worldwide.  Besides her gorgeous vocal multilingual abilities (records in English, Italian, French, & Spanish), she’s a multi-talent songwriter, instrumentalist, theatrical actress, and record producer. This gal has received several international and national awards.

The first time I heard Tina was on fellow BoTBer, Angels Bark site which impressed me and I knew I wanted to feature this song with you. Thanks, Michele!

Before I go, let me share one more mewsic vid by this artist uploaded on YouTube ten months ago and has received more than a million views.

What mewsic moves you?

I hope to see back tomorrow for a bit of random chat and Tuesday Tunesation!

  1. That is quite a reputation for Mr Ruben Blades….he does look familiar. Now I want to see some of those movies to look for him now 🙂

And Ms Tina does sound very good!

    Thanks for the introduction!

    Thanks for sharing.

I hope your DD#2 is healing well and going back to work so soon wont take a toll.

Have a blessed week Cathy. *HUGS*

  2. Wow, thanks for the shout out. That is so cool.

There is a story about how I came about that song. Many years ago when I was in college, I had to do a easy listening jazz show. Most of the music was stuff that would put speed freaks to sleep. Long story short, I found this song and some how it was played every time I had to do this show. I have loved it every since.

    1. Patrick, you’re welcome! I find I’m inspired frequently by others and I like giving credit back. Thanks for sharing how you came to discover this song. I really like it a lot and I’m sure others will, too. Have an easy going day, my friend!

  3. I have to listen to this gal when I am home. i like it when I hear music in different languages. I have seen this actor and it is cool he wants to run for president for Panama. he does look like one tough dude. last night I watched The Barkley’s of Broadway with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. the Song/”They Can’t Take that away From me”, was so beautiful, not only does Astaire sing it wonderfully but their dancing is sublime and I had placed my hand to my chest at the end without realizing it until after that it had taken my breath away

    1. Birgit,

Ruben has a tough guy persona for sure. I don’t know anything about him as a politician, but he’s a good singer and actor. Fred Astaire is a talented feller but then again a lot of actors from his era were multi-talented singers, dancers, and actors. I haven’t seen the movie you mentioned but it sounds like a good one to check out. Thanks for visiting today, my friend!

  4. Hi, Cathy!

I always look forward to the mewsical acts you introduce here on CAAC because your taste is so similar to mine. (The same holds true for TV series. Mrs. S and I are currently watching the British miniseries National Treasure, a drama inspired by actual events.)

It seems rare to find an actor with genuine talent as a singer. (William Shatner’s ill advised recordings come to mind.) Panamanian icon Ruben Blades, a man with aspirations to become his country’s president, has singing talent and I enjoyed his song.

I can’t write enough positive things about Tina Arena, a veteran Aussie singing star who started her career at age 8 in a 1976 talent competition. I voted for Tina when Michele introduced her as a BOTB contestant on Angels Bark and I enjoyed seeing and hearing her again today on your blog. Tina’s got a lovely voice and she sings from the soul. I just bought a new set of headphones and the deep bass on “Chains” really grabs me. Tina’s 2005 French language recording “Aimer jusqu’à l’impossible” (“Love till the impossible”) is another thrilling experience for the ears and eyes.

What a newsical treat this was, dear friend Cathy. Thank you!

    1. Tom,

As always, I’m delighted you enjoyed this morning’s concert. The new series you and Mrs. Shady are watching sounds interesting. Is this on Netflix? If so, then I will have to add it to our watch list. Ruben is a happy discovery along the mewsic trail. It surprises me sometimes to find an actor who actually sings well. I figured you knew about Tina from Michele, as well. His amazing Austrailian talent is a joy to listen to and I look forward to finding more mewsic by her. Thanks for stopping in today, my friend!

      1. Hi again, Cathy! National Treasure is a brand new 4-part miniseries on Hulu. Knowing it in inspired by actual events in the UK makes it of interest to someone like me.

Thanks for visiting SDMM today, dear friend Cathy!

  5. I was not familiar with Tina Arena, but I did know of Rubén Blades. I think he’s an excellent actor, as well as singer. Thanks for your recent visit to my blog and blessings!

    1. Arnoldo, It’s a pleasure to have your return visit this morning and I’m delighted you enjoyed today’s mewsic selections. I hope you have a blessed, happy week, my friend!
