Do you remember me telling you that I started using coconut oil in my diet? Well, if you don’t then you read about it here. More specifically, I am eating it by the tablespoonful. The reason for this is, I read it was good for Crohn’s. Many Crohn’s patients have diarrhea issues. The Internet articles claimed coconut oils helps with this problem in some people. However, I do no have this kind of trouble with my intestines. Usually, if anything it’s the opposite.
My first thought was, if coconut oil helps to elevate diarrhea symptoms then it slows the digestive process, but that didn’t make sense. Coconut oil lubricates and I didn’t want to worry about the problems it could cause. I wanted the coconut oil for its antiviral, antibacterial properties because of the inflammation in my small intestines.
The good news is coconut oil keeps the wheels greased. Maybe, a little too much with my daily dose of 2 tablespoons (generally recommended dose given on Internet sources). I didn’t develop diarrhea but more frequent bathroom trips than usual and a noisy tummy.
I kept to this routine for 5-6 days until I realized I an adjustment is needed. On Sunday, I reduced my daily dose to 1 tablespoon, taking half in the morning and the other half in the evening. This helped. Every person’s body responses differently, and I suspect like many things if my body is to tolerate 2 tablespoons of coconut oil then I may need to step it up gradually and then again it may never like that amount. Only time will tell the tale, I will do what is necessary to make sure my intestinal health.
My recommendation is if you choose to try coconut oil straight out of the spoon then to build yourself up to level that your body can tolerate. Who best to say what’s right for you other than you!
Grab a cup of coffee on Tuesday Talk Time and join me as I visit my lovelies.
I’m sorry to tell you about the cancellation this week of Tuesday Coffee Chat due to an unforeseen interruption. Rorybore’s mother is in the hospital and currently stable but more tests are needed. Please join me in prayer, asking the Great Physician to move His hand across a friend’s mom to restoring her health. Thanks!
Why not let her know you’re thinking & praying for her by sending her a tweet @RoryBore. I am sure this will uplift her spirits!
Lord, we surrender our worries to you and ask that you bring peace to Rorybore, answers from the medical test, solutions from the doctor, and complete healing of her mother. Place your comforting touch upon the hearts and minds of this family. In His precious name we pray. Amen
Patrice’s chats on the farmhouse porch questions this week are:
- Do you like avocados? Yes, in guacamole dip. I don’t believe I have eaten avocados any other way. They tend to make my throat itch a bit.
- Have you ever gone on a roller coaster? Yes, my first ever experience on a roller coaster was at King’s Island when I was 14. That was the scariest moment of my life!
- Do you do cross stitch, needlepoint, creel work, or needle punch? No, but I have done some cross stitching. Needlework isn’t one of my favorite hobbies.
- Do you cook with gas or electric? Electric.
- Tell me something good, pleasant, or uplifting. Please. Spring is in 16-days and counting!
Stacy Uncorked is taking a blogging hiatus. You may recall, she and her family moved back to her home state of Washington last summer. For the pas several months, they have lived in Stacy’s parents’ basement. She’s thrilled to report they are finally beginning the last leg of their journey as they settled on a new home long last. Stacy promises me to return to Blogosphere in March. All of her loyal friends, including myself are looking forward to seeing her soon. Until then, I continue doing what I always do… visit my other buds!
Have a terrific Tuesday!

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, too, just over a week from now. YAYAY! I have a yard full of shamrocks, really huge ones. I haven’t seen any four-leaf ones yet, but they’re bound to be out there somewhere. 🙂
I’m glad that the coconut oil is working for you. I’m praying for RoryBore’s mama. I hope that everything will be okay. Have a great week!
I love coconut oil! Glad you have found a significant use for it at a dosage that works for you. I have used it in oil pulling and for skin care….never taken it right off the spoon – ingested it, anyway – but was thinking of it because it’s so healthy for you and is supposed to aid in appetite suppression and weight loss.
Enjoyed your post, Spring must be on everyone’s mind.
Good to hear your experience with the coconut oil. I think I mentioned that one of our nieces eats it from the spoon, too. I’ve been cooking with it for awhile now, but haven’t tried eating it straight yet….yet.
We have the same answers on 3 and 4. Cool!
Glad to hear that your coconut oil works for you. Thanks for the Spring count down however I have feeling that it will very late this year.
Yeah, I’m thinking this, too. We normally see daffodils blooming by late February and yet they haven’t peaked their heads yet. So, things might not come to life around here till later in the month, if then. Next week, the weather promises to be in the 60s. That’s gonna be so nice!
Flowers are starting to bloom around here. The trees with white flowers are blooming in our neighborhood and the purple flowering trees are blooming all over town. The big thing around here is bluebonnets and I haven’t seen any of those around here yet. The Indian Paintbrushes are blooming and I’ve gotten several pics of those. I found some pretty little purple flowers while out looking for bluebonnets Friday morning, too.
Texas has been put into the refrigerator again this week, but it is supposedly going to warm up and then lots of flowers will be along. They say we may have a bumper crop of bluebonnets this year. 🙂
I have been following your remarks on coconut oil and I am giving it a try with the dogs and with me.
Oh, that’s good! lol You and the dogs are taking the coconut oil. Hey, what works for humans probably will work on animals, too. Do the dogs like it? I think the coconut oil is rather tasty. It makes me think I have had a sweet treat, like a Mounds bar without the chocolate. 😀
