This week’s art prompt is ‘still life’. I kinda wished I had illustrated the image above but I had already had my drawing done. This will give me something sketch in the coming days.
I was reminded in recent months how I used to like drawing wine bottles and glasses when I was in high school after visiting Debbie’s blog. I don’t drink, so why the appeal? I think I like it simply because its so picturesque, quaint, romantic, nostalgic, and maybe because I love grapes. My late in-laws used to grow grapes and they were the best ever!
Where was I going with this…oh, yeah this week’s illustration. Here’s my ‘still life’ pencil sketch.
That’s it for today. I’ll be joining Rain’s Garden tomorrow and I invite you to check out the gallery of talented artists’ on display! Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Have a wonderful day! X💋X💋, Cathy

The grapes reminded me of our harvest from this summer. Wow! and to see a 100n year old barn. Wow, thanks for these special shares and its great to see you with me at #WW.
Hi, your yellow image is very appealing to me. I could almost even go and buy some perfume 🙂 And I never use any.
Take care.
I´m glad you got good memories from my post today. 🙂
Monica,
I love perfume but I haven’t wore any in a couple of years. I have all of these lovely scents but rarely use them. Shame on me, right?
Hi Cathy 🙂 I love the photos, and that barn…I LOVE old barns and what fun that your in-laws grew grapes! I thought about it…still thinking about it! 🙂 Your sketch is wonderful and I love how you added a big hunka cheese too! 😉 Great work! 🙂
Rain,
If we had a place to grow grapes then I’d love to do it. I figured cheese and wine pictured together would be a purrfect combo even for a non-drinker like myself. 🙂 Cheese goes well with fruit, so that’s why it came to mind. I like having apples and cheese. Yum! I’m getting hungry.
I love your still life and I agree that if you click on it we see so much more of the texture. As for liking to draw wine bottles even though you don’t drink wine … well there is something to be said for wine bottles, their shape, their color, how they reflect light, but I am guessing you were a wine drinker in another life and that is why you are drawn to them 🙂 Great post Cathy …

Andrea,
I’m glad to know that you enjoyed the enlarged version of my images. I rather like that feature. I like drinking grape juice maybe that’s it. 🙂 It’s practically the same thing without the relaxing properties commonly associated with wine I suppose, huh? lol
The Brushstroke app does add a wonderful effect! Your still life is fabulous and it does represent nostalgia and comfort so well.

Soma,
Thanks, I appreciate your nice comment on my still life sketch. 🙂
Hi Cathy. I am playing catch up. This is a beautiful still life. Wonderful expression and great depth. Have a nice evening.
Hey Nicole,
No worries with playing catch up. I do that frequently myself. In fact, I need to do a little of that myself as I’ve fallen down on things this week. Thanks for joining me, my dear!
Sorry I’m late visiting. My internet has been down all afternoon and early evening. Oh Cathy, you NAILED the still life. I can’t draw, but I absolutely love your bottles and grapes. Speaking of grapes, I also love the way you manipulated your FIL’s barn and grapes photo. That is incredible. I enlarged the photos and you are right, They are amazing, but that barn photo is incredible.
I’m sorry to hear your internet has been down. Doesn’t that drive you bonkers? Thankfully, knock on wood, that isn’t a problem for us too often. Thank you for you kind words about my artwork. I really enjoyed sketching that scene I conjured in my head. I’m also glad that you liked my photo-edits on both photographs. I sure do miss visiting DH’s boyhood home but even more I miss my late in-laws – wonderful people!
Wonderful still life!
Christine,
Thanks, my friend!
Lovely photo, Cathy, and I love the sketch. I love a nice relaxing glass of red wine in the evening or as dessert (I don’t eat sweets). Have a fantastic rest of the week. 🍷
Eugenia,
I can’t comprehend the part “I don’t eat sweets”, girl. What planet are you from? You can’t be an earthling! lol I tell you I wish sometimes I didn’t eat sweets. Cakes, pies, cookies, ice cream, chocolate, I mean anything sweet is my weakness. Like Superman is with Kryptonite, I crumble to my knees when something sweet gets within arms length. 🙂
Your pictures are beautiful especially in the enlargements, it makes such a difference. The pencil sketch looks great, I’m looking forward to seeing it coloured. The photo with the grapes is wonderful, too. Have a great week! Stay safe, hugs, Valerie
Valerie,
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed this week illustration as well as my old photos. 🙂
Beautiful photos and very nice drawing too. We grow concords and some others I can’t think of the names. My hubby makes wine. xo
Ellen,
I don’t drink but I LOVE grapes! Mmm, I remember the days we’d get grapes from DH’s parents. Talk about good! Mmm-Mmm, delicious! It would be wonderful to have some of those again but gone are those days. If we ever get a bit more property then I’d love to grow a few varieties to enjoy. :p
That is a lovely nostalgic picture of the barn.
What a great still you have there! It reminds me of gramma’s table, and you reminded me I have a date with my cousin I just met on line. She lives in Sicily now and she’s with her daughter. You see her daughter is out there and she wanted to be close to her in these type of times, and I surely don’t blame her. She’s doing a family tree on Ancestry.com and we decided to pull resources and pick each other’s brain and she said I could have access. Woo Hoo What fun! So, I’m just relaxing today cuz it’s supposed to get hotter than blazes today! I went to do a bone desity test today and that’s over & pretty soon my tests shall be over for another couple of years. Guess ya gotta take care of the ol’ bod…. right? Anyway, I do. I figure if I nip in in the bud all will turn out a whole lot better then if I didn’t right? Right! WHO LOVES YA SUGAR!!!!!?// MEEEEEEEEEE LATERRRRRRRRRR
Marie,
Oh that’s neat you met a cousin online. I tried researching my family tree but lost interest. It’s really involving to trace the various legs of the family after I I got back about six generations. There are so many family members with similar names and that caused confusion. It is really neat, though. We’re currently 84.4º. I think it’s forecast to get to nearly 90º but it won’t me being indoors. Stay cool now and thanks for visiting today, girlfriend!
Beautiful, all of it!
Love all the images! Have a great day!
Everything is totally arts pretty!
We have grapes in our garden too, CK, they are delicious. Your sketch is beautiful, let’s lift our glasses and have a vino…cheers🥂Pawkisses for a Happy Wednesday🐾😽💞 I have to put on your badge now, I didn’t know that we’re still wild…MOL😹
Binky,
We can be wild and young heart always, right?
Your sketches are always amazing Cathy I am totally useless at it lol I am jealous <Σ三三三三三三三∃ 🙂
Have a sketchtastic safe week 😷😷😷
Steve,
You’re too kind. Thanks, my friend! {{hugs}}
I love your sketches. Wine is a romantic thing indeed. I love the perfume bottles too. There were some very pretty bottles back in the day.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥
Sandee,
DH has gotten many many different purrfumes over the years, all are in small bottles with the exception of a couple being full-sized. I like the mini bottles because they are so cute and they fit purrfectly in my table-top curio cabinet DH got me many moons ago just for this purrpose. 🙂
That’s a nice effect when you blow it up. I had a Nikon D7100 and loved it. I should have kept it as a back up unit when I bought my D500 earlier this year. Have a blessed day.
Driller,
A back up camera would be nice. If I ever get back into photography again mastering some of the basics then I might consider getting a new camera. I’d love a DSLR that will upload photos via WiFi only. I’ve never uploaded using the cables for me when it’s a thousand times easier to pull the SD card. I’m not sure why they design them to use a cable when WiFi is so much better. Can you up load pictures via WiFi with the D500? I haven’t looked at cameras in a long time.
