This Christmas BOTB Showdown

Welcome to round 16 of Battle of the Bands!  I’m taking a break from my James Bond theme song series, to get into the Christmas spirit and what better way to do that then with a holiday song sing-off, right?

First a little announcement, today I’m kicking off my Song-A-Day (S.a.D) Christmas Challenge and I’m cheating a bit by using my first battle showdown for December for the challenge.  Don’t tell Santa, okay?  I wouldn’t want to make it on his naughty list again this year.

Day 1: Christmas S.a.D. Challenge

American soul singer, Donny Hathaway originally recorded This Christmas in 1970.  I can’t believe this song is that old!  All this time I thought Chris Brown was the artist behind the song.  His rendition is good but I have to be honest, Hathaway blows Brown out of the water as well as other cover artists but let’s not let that stop us from enjoying others displaying their talent and holiday cheer performing this old tune.

First up we have two gals’ acoustic cover with beautiful harmony.  Listen to Megan Davies on guitar with Jaclyn!

Next, I started with one artist when another cover followed right after perking my ears.  This version was better suited to go against my first pick, listen to decide for yourself if Michael Land gets your vote!

Alrighty, now for the big moment! Who gets your vote? Will it be the ladies – Megan & Jaclyn or Michael?

You were warned! 😆

Polls close noon (EST) on Dec. 6ST!

Next week, same time slot I’ll be back to announce the winner in this round, so be sure to mark your calendar to see if your favorite artist wins in this showdown. That’s it for today. I encourage you hop over to some of my fellow BoTBers below to see what they are sharing.  I’ll be back tomorrow for another Christmas S.a.D and I hope to see you here!  X💋X💋, Cathy

I invite you to visit BoTBers with showdowns going on today.

*Unless noted participants are doing both battles on the 1st and 15th.

    1. Mike,

Thanks for popping by. Unfortunately, the polls closed at 12noon EST yesterday. The results of this battle are now live in today’s post. It’s great seeing you, my friend!

  1. That is two and a half minutes with the Davies Sisters, I will never get back. Michael Land was not much better. However, the guy with the bass and beat box combo was a blast.

    Michael Land – 1 Vote

    1. Myke,

Ahh, come on the Davies Sisters weren’t THAT bad, dude! You crack me up. Unfortunately, the voting period ended yesterday at noon EST. Oops, my bad! I JUST realized that I have TODAY as the last day to cast votes. roll eyes Excuse me while I hit my head on the wall a dozen times….okay, I’m back. Now I need the Tylenol. I didn’t realize this goof earlier with Mike Spain’s comment. I’m going at the very least update my results post and this one before I get anymore votes. Thanks for voting, dear friend. Oh yeah, sorry for stealing two and a half minutes of your life like that. 🙂

  2. HiYa, CAThy! It’s That You?

A Merry Christmas to you and yourn!

I adore Christmas music and play it almost exclusively from the day after Thanksgiving through the evening of December 25th. But I had absolutely NO IDEA that this song went back as far as 1970. You dun learnt me sumpin’ new, and have inspired me to seek out and listen to the Donny Hathaway original.

Like you, I generally tend to prefer male vocals to female vocals, and for that reason – and that reason ONLY – I am going to cast my BOTB Bote for Michael Land.

Have a joyful season, my wonderful friend in Christ!

    Bless And Be Blessed!!

  3. I love your Christmas spirit, Cathy, and your blog looks very festive. My vote goes to the girls – Megan & Jaclyn. Have a great week ahead! ❤️

  4. Hi Cathy, it’s looking very Christmassy around here! 😀 The ladies have lovely voices, but I liked the sound of Michael Land a wee bit more. A song a day sounds like a fun project. Enjoy!

  6. Hi Cathy! Hey! I made it here the first day! Major surprises. Today technology is challenging me. My desktop refused to startup, and I am left with either my phone or laptop. I don’t mind using the laptop, so long as the desktop is on and I can access my files… but that isn’t the case today. Sadly, I may be locked out of those files forever (sad face) and I refuse to attempt this on my phone. Anyway, I’ve spent some time today playing catch up on my laptop, trying to reinvent the wheel with certain files that I absolutely need. Listened to your battle while doing this. I’m going to have to give my vote to the girls. Here’s hoping tomorrow is a better day!

  7. Hi Cathy!
It’s so festive here, I love it!
Great battle. Michael has a terrific voice, but the girls nailed the holiday theme with atmosphere, tempo, and harmony. They could have even stepped it up a bit, but Megan and Jaclyn get my vote, please 😉
    Happy holidays!

  8. Michael Land is pretty good, but I was not overly impressed by his version.

I much prefer the girls (singing and looks).

My vote goes to Megan and Jaclyn.

  9. I am beginning to enjoy the Christmas season and started to decorate. I mentioned you over at my blog due to your last post:). The girls were low key but I could see them in a cafe while I have a nice drink. The guys…the singer was so irritating to watch with his facial expressions so I decided, as I almost always do anyway, to just listen…and he still irritated me. It’s as if he was trying too hard so my vote goes to the gals. Merry First of Advent.

  10. Hi, Cathy!

Happy December and Band Battle Day, dear friend!

I honestly didn’t know the seasonal song “This Christmas,” not to be confused with the oft recorded song “Last Christmas.” I clicked over and listened to Donny’s original and didn’t recognize it. It struck me that he sounded a lot like Stevie Wonder. In your battle, I found the acoustic cover performance by Megan & Jaclyn a bit too low key and laid back to keep me interested. Contestant #2, Michael Land, sings with more passion and spirit, imitating the style of Hathaway on his original. In short, Michael sells the song a little more than do the ladies. Therefore I vote for Michael Land.

I just wanna smooch those cute kittens in their mittens. Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy!
