This scene isn’t my first ‘Beach’ inspired drawing for this week. I will say this I am really enjoying my iPad more and more with each piece of artwork I complete on it. The confidence I’ve gotten with my ability in the past year is exponential. The key word being ‘confidence’. I still have room to grow but that’s the point of stretching and testing my skills.
My first pencil drawing to tackle was this beach scene I call, Naugty on the Beach.
Celebrating my new blog design, naturally, I found inspiration from Edward D’Ancona’s vintage pinup girl painting and did a copy-cat version. Trust me there’s no real comparison between the two only a vague similarity.
It looks like I got carried away again. In the spirit of fun and thanks to our hostess, I’m inspired to illustrate cartoons which bring me to my final two art pieces.
I used an image I found online to doodle the Looney Tune beach bums from which got the wheels turning in my head when I came up with my drawing. I did not see the below picture as an example but I based my Lola Bunny pinup after D’Ancona’s artwork like above. 🙂
All of my pencil drawings definitely need color but I’m not sure if I’ll get a chance to share the colorized versions anytime soon. You can bank on it when I do get around to publishing them, you’ll know about it.
Thanks for stopping in with your coffee for a peek at my masterpiece and …oh yeah for not spilling it on my artwork. lol It’s been a super pleasure to share my sprinkle of talent I have with you this morning. 😘 If you like to see what others are bringing to the art play date, then I invite you to high tail it over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry!
Let me give you the heads up on my summertime schedule. Due to cyberspace sluggish behavior and my enormous need for downtime beginning July 1st I’m taking a semi-break in blogging contributing only once a week to co-host Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me. In the past, I’ve been known to slide in my purrsuit to enjoy my time away by slipping in an unplanned post (don’t be surprised) but my normal blogging routine I plan to resume after Labor Day weekend, so mark your calendar. 😉
I’ll be back tomorrow with an edition of Friday Fun Stuff chockful of giggles, fill-ins, & more! Come join the fun!

Love the Looney Tunes drawings! And the first illustration is lovely.
Thank you, Linda! I appreciate your return visit and hope you’re doing well this summer.
I have been that “naughty” girl on the beach. 😉 – Enjoy your break.
These are great! I am so glad you are continuing your drawing and will look forward to the coloured versions. I actually have a picture of me (my back) almost like your first drawing except I am in the water and I do not have that bikini bottom..my bottom was fully covered but off went the top! I made sure noone else was in the water and my friend could only see my back:) OMG! Look at me explain myself…hahahaaa. I love the Pin-Up and love the looney Tunes..Poor Sylvester. I remember Bugs having a girlfriend and she looks fab! Have a great weekend
Great drawings, Cathy! High fives and fist bumps! Have a fantabulous weekend!
Those are all great drawings. XO
Very lovely paintings 🙂
It’s always fun to see what you will draw up next!
Mimi,
You’re so sweet. Thanks for dropping by this afternoon!
You know how I love all your sketches but the cartoon one with bugs and friends is perfect. Wow.
Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥
Sandee,
I had a lot of fun sketching Bugs & friends. Thanks for joining me on the beach. 🙂
Hi Cathy :)) Your Procreate illustration is really nice, I love the hues and how you blended the scene together! Lovely!! It’s nice to hear that you are feeling more confident, your work is really good!! 🙂
Naughty on the Beach is very cute! I love that! She’s going to get some attention that’s for sure lol! I think your ukelele pinup is great! We were both inspired by other artists this week! 🙂
I LOVE your Looney Tune doodles!!! Ha ha ha…I love how they’re all having so much fun, Sylvester is in for a splash lol! It’s funny you know, I was THIS close to doing Bugs on a surfboard! Great minds think alike! 🙂 And your Lola is really nice too! Very good likeness!!! I’m so glad you got so inspired, each piece is wonderfully beachy!!! Thanks for joining in!! 🙂
Rain,
I can’t believe how much we were thinking alike this week but I knew you’d have a Bugs drawing and I really wanted to give him a try this time. Your sketches of Bugs always make me smile. I’m not sure if I’ll make it for next week’s art date with my semi-hiatus coming on. I may try to do something every other week, just to stay in the game. We’ll see. Have a good evening and thanks for the return visit. 😉
Your art is so much fun and adding a beach is purrfect!
Thanks, Brian! I hope you did roll around in the sand too much. Your dad and mom will have a hard time getting that out of your fur.
That beach is lovely. I like the softness, the hope.
Jacqui,
Thanks, I’m glad you like my sunset over the water Procreate design. 🙂 I can’t believe June is just about vanished on us, can you?
Hi, Cathy!
It does my heart good to know that you are deriving more enjoyment from producing art and gaining confidence as you go along. That’s what life is all about – stretching and testing yourself. That’s how you grow. The colorful Procreate illustration showing the sun setting at the beach is wonderful – suitable for framing. I think I told you years ago that I shopped eBay and collected Giclee pinup art prints. Most were Elvgrens but I also bought canvas ink prints by several other vintage pinup artists. I had a scrapbook filled with them and some of my favorites were framed and hung on a wall in my den. Edward D’Ancona’s pinup of the girl at the beach playing the uke was one of my acquisitions. I like your version of that pinup girl, the Lola Bunny variation and the first one showing the girl getting naughty and going topless at the beach. Unless she happens to be at a nudist beach, I’m sure it won’t be long before she attracts attention and male companionship. 🙂 I like your composition with the gang from Looney Tunes as beach bums. It looks like Tweety bird is riding a wave on a miniature surfboard – so cute! I hope you can colorize one or more of these black and white sketches. I look forward to seeing your characters fleshed out.
Thank you for sharing your torrent of talent, dear friend Cathy. I’m excited to know you are returning this week with some Friday Sillies. I look forward to giggling with you. Have a wonderful day!
Tom,
As you know drawing gives me a lot of pleasure. It’s a great source of creativity for me and yes I will add color to some if not all of these pencil drawings somewhere down the line. That’s cool you have some the pinup girl illustrations. I’ve gotten a few of the calendars over the years which are a lot of fun. That was an era when girls enjoyed being girls and not afraid to show it. Elvgren’s girls always had a wholesomeness about them even in their sexy poses. Thanks for dropping by, my friend. Have a good evening!
Your beach art is beautiful, gorgeous sunset, , sun rise, work, I love the naughty pin up girl! Enjoy your break and I hope the summer treats you well!
Laurie,
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed my contribution today. 🙂
