TADwRain week 4 #art theme ‘Trees’

This week’s Thursday Art Day with Rain challenge is ‘TREES’.  My first thought was to sketch a gnarly tree framing the moon but my illustration took on an entire nightly, wintry essence.

A Procreate art sketch – a lonely tree framing a full moon with a wintry mountain backdrop

My next illustration instead of using my iPad, I turned to my sketch pad.  I like flipping between old and new school when it comes to doodling.  This creation is a spin-off of a design I did in Procreate that I didn’t share because it didn’t feel right and wanted to put it on paper.

A peaceful mountain cabin surrounded by lots of trees
I’m calling this one ‘A Caturday in the Park’. Oops, I forgot to draw a kitty in my picture. *smacks forehead* 😳

One of my favorite tree sketches comes from 2017 during the A2Z challenge. I illustrated my first treehouse.  Some months after the blogfest I attempted to draw a tree swing while the tree itself isn’t spot on I do like how the swing turned out. Trees are captivating. I want to sketch more and most certainly will do it!

I mentioned Kick in the Creatives a few weeks ago. This week’s prompt is “Canal”. I shared this sketch with the FB community on Monday and since my drawing has trees then it works for today.

Thanks for stopping in with your coffee for a peek at my masterpiece and …oh yeah for not spilling it on my artwork. lol.  It’s been a super pleasure to share my sprinkle of talent I have with you this morning. 😘 If you like to see what others are bringing to the art play date, then I invite you to high tail it over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry!

This week is DH’s off Friday, so I’ll be MIA in Blogosphere later this afternoon but you’re invited to hit the dance floor with ‘Birthday Songs for Marie‘ on Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

  1. I like the shape of the tree in the first piece

your hand sketches looks good, I also switch working from digital to pencil and paper, it’s just good to try a few ways to create art.

    have a lovely day.

  2. Those are beautiful drawings. I used to have that Chicago cassette, I recognize the cover.

  3. The first sketch is dramatic and I feel like I am ready to see Lon Chaney as the Wolfman peek out. Love the cabin in the woods-I dream of living there. I love the Park with the dog in the background and peeking out just slightly is someone reading a book-love that gem

    1. Birgit,

Yeah, Lon Chaney howling at the moon! That’s good stuff. I didn’t think the Wolfman. Good for you, you spotted the reader resting against the tree. 🙂 You earned double points for that one! lol

  4. Hi Cathy 🙂

I love your art!!! That first piece is gorgeous…you really got the depth of the scene in there with that cabin! I love the clouds and I love the TREES!!! Especially the one in the foreground! I forgot to tell you, I actually ordered/received and tried out a digital pen/mouse that I could plug into my laptop – HATED IT. I really thought I’d like it, but I think my problem is hand to eye coordination…I can’t draw on a mousepad while watching what I’m doing on the screen…I think if I ever try that route again, it’ll have to be with an Ipad so that when I draw, I can see my hands drawing it (if that makes sense!). I ended up returning it.

Your peaceful mountain cabin sketch is really great, I totally want to live there! The background trees are done so wonderfully, and is that a Weeping Willow by the river? 🙂 Those are my absolute favourite trees, I haven’t seen a real one since I was a kid though. A Caturday in the Park is wonderful! I love those big trees that you can climb into and just sit and watch the world! The Canal sketch is nice too, I was trying to make out who’s name is in the heart on the tree, couldn’t figure it out! 🙂

I just checked out your treehouse and it’s really good! That’s something I’d love…a nice big treehouse that I can use as my little art studio! Your tree swing is great too, a nice wonderful big tree holding it!

I love all of your entries, thanks for joining in!!! So much fun! 🙂

    1. Rain,

I know what you mean about needing to see your hands move as you draw. That’s one problem I have with small details and digital art. It’s hard to separate the lines but I’m slowly getting the knack. Yes, that’s a weeping willow by the river. My grandparents had a small one in their yard when I was little. I love that thing but it seemed to attract bugs which I hated. The name in the heart carving says CKennedy 2019. I find it difficult to write names that small. A treehouse artstudio sounds lovely. That would be nice but it wouldn’t be too much fun to climb the steps or ladder to your studio when you got older. 🙂 Thanks for the return visit and words of praise. You’re too sweet for words. 🙂
