SWF: Cumberland Gap National Historical Park

Last Saturday’s outing took us north just across the Tennessee state line into southern Kentucky.

This week’s Skywatch Friday contribution, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Middlesboro, Kentucky

We had gorgeous skies overhead and scorching summer temperatures, but we enjoyed the day of leisure.

At the end of Pinnacle Road, the park has an extended observation deck for visitors to enjoy a spectacular view of the valley.

I took this macro shot in front of the Visitor’s Center and although the flowers were past peak, it was still a pleasure to capture. Sharing with other i heart macro photographers!

We want to plan a return trip this fall with the promise of a tamer forecast to enjoy outdoor activities.

~All images captured with my big girl camera ~ Nikon D7000 & preferred lens Nikkor 18-105mm zoom, unless otherwise noted.~

Before you go, you may want to link your photographic wonder to this week’s WW link-up party, here. Thank you for making me apart of your day.  Please leave your comments footprints so that I know you came and I will hop over to your place soon. Have a fototastic day!

  1. Lovely puffy clouds, and unspoiled green forests. It would be fun to explore there when it is not so hot. The Echinacea looks pretty, I always marvel at how prickly the disks feel.

  2. These are amazing photos. Thanks for taking me to a part of my country that is not so far away that I have nevertheless never seen.

I love the photo with our flag in it. I know Americans are often looked up on as being xenophobix and ultrapatriotic because we put the flag everywhere. But that’s the view from the outside looking in.

From the inside looking out, it’s an assurance that we can make this grand experiment called the United States work.
