Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin joins the Rocktober Music Fest

Posted on October 24, 2020

Once again, I’m using this week’s art prompt, LEGENDS, for inspiration in my daily song feature. There are songs penned about actual gruesome crimes but I didn’t want to stroll down that avenue and decided to go with urban legends surrounding popular songs.

According to this Internet source, ‘Stairway to Heaven’ has a dark story

Many conspiracy theorists believe that in Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, there is a satanic message. When played forward, the verse goes:
“If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now. Its just a spring clean for the May Queen. Yes there are two paths you can go down, but in the long run. There’s still time to change the road you’re on.”  When played backwards, it allegedly says:
“Oh hears to my Sweet Satan. The one whose little path would make me sad whose power is Satan. He’ll give you 666. There was a little tool shed where he made us suffer Sad Satan.”

You’d think with a myth like this it makes more sense if it were tagged to Highway to Hell. *think. think. think* With that, let’s listen to a not so scary sounding song, Stairway to Heaven!

That’s a wrap for now. I invite to visit JingleJangleJungle to join the party. It’s never too late to get in on the action. Until next time… rock on, ghouls and guys! X💋X💋, Cathy

This tune is a guitar player’s favorite especially when a bunch of them get together. You should hear this tune with three of four guitars playin’ it and all different riffs. It’s totally awesome and then Dave has this friend that sings this song expertly! I gotta tape this one some time and post it. Miss you my friend and again thank you so much for bailing me out once again! HUGS and go put those feet up!!! Say hey to Robin for me (that’s his name right?)… HUGS

I had never heard of the Stairway to Heaven “play backwards and it is Satanic” urban legend but I well remember the Paul is Dead thing with the song that ended “I buried Paul.” if you played it backwards, the Abbey Road album cover and all the other “hints”. And, memories of record players where you could play records backwards. Well, Paul is still with us and Stairway to Heaven is one of the most iconic rock songs ever. So much for that. It’s a favorite song of mine.

I LOVE Led Zeppelin and this is my favourite song of theirs! 💖 Thanks for sharing it. Conspiracy theories can be found in just about anything. Even The Beatles fell victim to this, with that whole “Paul is dead” theory. Several of their songs supposedly had hidden messages when played backwards. 🙄

Stairway to Heaven, a great song, Cathy! I feel any song is open to interpretation and the lyrics to this song are especially fascinating. Have a great day! 😘

Anything played backward can be interpreted any way you want. Better to just listen to the words and enjoy them!

If you play it backwards at slow speed, it’ll say “hy dummy, you’re playing it backwards at slow speed.”

LOL! Wouldn’t it be funny if it did? I never, ever tried listening to any song like this until doing these few posts to see if I could hear the supposed backwards words. I just want to enjoy mewsic not worry about what’s hidden in the lyrics. 🙂

George Carlin’s variation of that was “if you play it backwards at slow speed it’ll screw up your needle.” I don’t think any of that is intentional, and sometimes I think people hear what they want to hear. If they believe it’s a Satanic song, they’ll use any excuse to “prove” it.

Don’t worry about not being around because I’m not either. lol I’m sorry for being MIA on ya for the rest of the month for RMF but I’ll get over to check out each of your posts once I return from our staycation. Thanks for dropping by, darlin’!

You know, I’ve never really understood what difference it makes if they put something on a record backwards, since I don’t listen backwards…

4M Guidelines: Below are the 4M co-hostess. The rules are simple. Every other week, a suggested (not mandatory) theme is given to build your song picks. We're looking for embedded music to enjoy, one song or several. On the off weeks, we dance to whatever music moves you (your choice)! It's just that easy. Have fun and welcome to the party!
