Spelling Out MEMORIAL DAY with Song Titles

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

Welcome back to Sunday Edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me!  This weekend is the unofficial kick off summer.  It certainly feels like it in the south east. Speaking of which, it’s official we are taking the New England vacation that we’ve dreamed about in the fall.  I have reservations secured and we’re now smoothing out the finer details of where to go, what to see, … I’m really excited!

The theme this week is a musical acrostic using the first letter of song titles to spell Memorial Day

I’m gonna keep things simple today.  Just hit play to enjoy!

My Memorial Day acrostic song list:

M.  My Immortal ~Evanescence

E.  Evergreen ~Barbara Streisand

M.  Memories ~Maroon 5

O.  Over the Rainbow ~The Duprees

R.  Remember The Time ~Michael Jackson

I.  I Can Dream About You ~Dan Hartman

A.  Always ~Bon Jovi

L.  Look (The) ~Roxette

D. Dedicated ~Mariah Carey

A.  Another Lover ~Little Dragon

Y.  Your Song ~Elton John

4M design by Cathy Kennedy

This is a music linky party.  Your co-hostess are StacyAlana, and Me.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

Tomorrow is the last Monday of the month with John from The Sound of One Hand Typing as special 4M co-host.  It’s been such a privilege to have you onboard, my friend.  You did a swell job with your themes like always. Once again, I goofed on this linky by adding your name to the number 2 slot. I’m really sorry!

I expect Internet traffic to taper off.  Normally, I slack off during the summer months to organize future posts, things around the home, do some doodling, or whatever moves me.  The one thing you can count on to not be interrupted is Monday’s Music Moves Me.  Enjoy the long holiday weekend, my friends! This is CAAC signing off,  please join me next time for my newest James Bond theme song BOTB on Wednesday. Have a safe, wonderful, and boogietastic Memorial Day weekend!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. That’s a cute picture of the doggie and the kitty, CK and your mewsic list is great again. We had to wipe a little tear on the Maroon 5 song, as this was the song my middle two feet brother used for the memorial of my brother, who lived with my mother, Bobo😿 We didn’t know that Little Dragon, have to see if I can find more of her mewsic😸Pawkisses for a Happy Wednesday my furriend. Keep going strong while the battle goes on💪🐾😽💞

  2. Hi Cathy! ☺ Just dropping by to say hello! I like that you sprinkled in some 80’s tunes into your list of music! ☺

  3. Hi Cathy, it’s been a while…You’ve picked some excellent tunes for your Memorial Day #4M post! 👌 I hope you and DH are having a lovely long weekend. Exciting news about your upcoming trip! Much of the fun is in the planning. Enjoy! 😀

  4. Great job with the theme. I am too lazy to find that many songs. 🙂 XO

  5. A nice set for a lovely Sunday afternoon where I live. Listened to some of it indoors and some out in the back yard – I think the birds enjoyed the songs, too. Evergreen, Memories and Your Song especially are excellent choices. The “Your Song” video is one I’ve never seen before and I had to read the explanation – it was kind of strange but now I know the rest of the story. I’m happy you have consolidated your plans for your fall vacation and I hope you enjoy every minute of it. Alana ramblinwitham

  6. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Paw-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a good week and are having a nice Memorial Day weekend.

Awww… I just wanna smooch that kitten and puppy. Their lubbin is proof that being different doesn’t mean we need to fight like cats and dogs. I’m happy to learn that you will be taking a vacation to New England this fall where you will surely meet up with your daughter in Maine.

I enjoyed your block of songs with titles that spell out “Memorial Day.” Amy Lee has a beautiful look and voice. Her inspiring recordings, including this Grammy nominated song, “My Immortal,” would be ideal for use in movie soundtracks. Barbra’s song “Evergreen” was indeed featured in a film soundtrack. It is also known as the “Love Theme from A Star Is Born.” It was a pleasure to listen to the old school doo-wop group The Duprees” cover “Over The Rainbow,” the song Judy Garland made famous in the 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz. The Duprees version can be found on the group’s 2003 CD The Duprees Go To The Movies. I vividly recall Michael Jackson’s l992 hit “Remember the Time,” but don’t think I ever watched the 9 minute mewsic video produced for it and marketed as a short film set in Ancient Egypt. The elaborate production, filmed at Universal Studios Hollywood, was a measure of Michael’s star power. Dan Hartman reminded me of America’s answer to Phil Collins. His hit single “I Can Dream About You” is from the soundtrack of the 1984 movie Streets of Fire. Sadly, Dan died 10 years later at the too young age of 43. “The Look” by the Swedish pop rock duo Roxette was an international hit in 1989. I have a different video clip for that song scheduled to run in one of my future posts. Mariah Carey was right in the smooth groove with “Dedicated,” a song featuring New York rapper Nas, and released on Mariah’s 2014 album Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse. For me, the most exciting discovery in this set is Little Dragon, a Swedish EDM band that features Swedish-Japanese singer of Yukimi Nagano. What a marvelous combination! Indeed, their debut album was first released in Japan. This song, “Another Lover,” was released on the band’s 2020 album New Me, Same Us. To promote the album, Little Dragon was scheduled to tour the U.S. and Canada, but the COVID pandemic forced them to cancel that leg of their tour. Instead, they performed a live show from Sweden on YouTube, and I think the clip you posted is from that show.

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed the mewsic you had to offer this morning, and I’ll be back Wednesday to vote in your BOTB. That same day, I will be posting a “Battle of the Bands” of my own, the first time I have done so in many years. I hope you can come over and cast your vote. Until then, have a safe and restful M.D. and a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Amy Lee indeed has a fabulous voice. My daughters introduced her to me when they were in their teens. At first, I had a difficult time getting pass her dark attire. I know that really appeals to certain people. I closed my eyes to concentrate on her vocals. That helped me to realize her talent. Even when I was a younger, I didn’t like musicians who looked dark or weird. I avoided listening to Kiss because of that reason but when “Beth” came out it caused me to rethink things. Over the years, I’ve learned to not judge an artist by his/her appearance but reserve judgement until after I hear the music.

Judy Garland not only popularized “Over the Rainbow” but was the first recording artist. There have been many covers since that time that are very nice just like the doo-whop version of The Duprees. According to SecondHandSongs, “Over The Rainbow” has been recorded more than 1400 times.

Little Dragon is a nice discovery. I read about their tour being cut short because of the pandemic. I certainly need to sample more of their music. “Another Lover” has a nice vibe.

Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, my friend. I hope you and Mrs. Shady had a lovely holiday weekend!
