Smoky Mountain Rain & Rocky Top Fever

Cades Cove photo-edit with FotoFlexer

On Friday morning, we hopped in the car early and headed for the Smoky Mountains. Our initial destination: Cades Cove. Oh! My that’s God’s country – the most beautiful place in all the world or at least this is the way my father-in-law feels about it. I certainly must agree, it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Eventually, we made our way to Clingman’s Dome (highest point in the park) where the change in climate often time is drastically different from the valley. It’s common for us to find low hanging clouds in the Smoky’s as this is how it got its name – Land of the Blue Smoke.

This song rekindles fond memories for me. We moved into the area the summer of ’79. The following year, Ronnie Milsap’s cross-over country hit charted the billboard and became one of my favorite songs about the Smoky Mountains.

It’s back to school and with that comes football season! Whoot-Whoot! I didn’t consider myself a real “football fan” until I married and settled in Knoxville – home of the University of Tennessee. However, the longer we were here the more exposed I was and before I knew what happened I got the fever, Big Orange fever. Now, my blood runs deep orange, too!

Wish that I was on ol’ Rocky Top,
down in the Tennessee hills;
Ain’t no smoggy smoke on Rocky Top;
Ain’t no telephone bills;
Once I had a girl on Rocky Top;
Half bear, other half cat;
Wild as a mink, but sweet as soda pop,
I still dream about that;
Chorus
Rocky Top, you’ll always be
home sweet home to me;
Good ol’ Rocky Top;
Rocky Top, Tennessee;
Rocky Top, Tennessee.
Once two strangers climbed ol’ Rocky Top,
lookin’ for a moonshine still;
Strangers ain’t come down from Rocky Top;
Reckon they never will;
Corn won’t grow at all on Rocky Top;
Dirt’s too rocky by far;
That’s why all the folks on Rocky Top
get their corn from a jar;
Chorus
Rocky Top, you’ll always be
home sweet home to me;
Good ol’ Rocky Top;
Rocky Top, Tennessee;
Rocky Top, Tennessee.

There’s no amount of doctoring to cure this ole Rocky Top fever! Angela from Mommy Time Out and I would like to thank you for joining another edition of WAYBACK WEDNESDAYS. We hope you’ll decide to participate in our little meme where no rules apply. Simply link your blog, twitter, or Facebook below (only one please).

Leave a comment letting me know, if you’ve decide to join my friendship circle (GFC, NetworkedBlogs, Google+, etc) and I’ll pop over to your place soon. Don’t forget to show some love to Miss Angela.

Psst….Psst…can I ask a favor of you? Wayback Wednesdays doesn’t get much action or at least it’s not clear to me by the number of participants each week. I was wondering, if you’d share with your readers or tweet buddies to come join the fun with us on Wayback Wednesday. Thanks!

What wayback memories call to you on Wayback Wednesdays?

  1. I came over for your TTQ post (running really later, sorry about that) but got totally sidetracked by The Great Smokey Mountains. Cades Cove and Clingmans Dome brought back all kinds of childhood memories. The park was always a favorite destination for our family vacations when I was a kid. Cades Cove is still one of my favorite places any where.
