Saturday Songsausion presents Shelby Flint on CAAC

You can thank my blog pal, Tom at SPMM for today’s discovery.  He’s a good source of music and content.  My featured artist song picks span from 1958-1962, most of those years were before I was born at the end of 1961.   It was Angel On My Shoulder that persuaded me listen to more of artist’s music and I’m so happy that I did.

Put your headphones on to enjoy the sweetness of The Best of Shelby Flint in the background!

  1. Ohhh Shelby was one of my favorites growing up. Angel on my Shoulder played on the radio daily and my sister and I would sing along. Great memories.

  2. Hi, Cathy!

I am here for some Songsuasion, dear friend!

My eyes popped when I noticed that you are featuring Shelby Flint, the artist I introduced you to a while back at Shady’s Place. Thank you for mentioning me as your source. I became familiar with Shelby’s signature song “Angel On My Shoulder,” years ago during my vinyl record collecting phase of the early 70s. I obtained a copy of Shelby’s hit single during that period. This morning, as I listen to the best of Shelby Flint, presented here in beautifully remastered sound, I am hearing all of these other songs of hers for the first time, plus I am hearing ‘Angel” much more distinctly than I ever did before. Shelby is another female artist with a singing voice you and I admire most – soft, feminine, clear and intimate. “Wonderland” is an interesting track. I’m pretty sure Shelby is singing lead and background vocals on that one, making it seem like it is a girl group recording. How about “Pipes For Keith”? It sounds like a Scottish folk song. I remember “The Riddle Song” and it’s hilarious use in the movie Animal House. Shelby does a nice job on the old standard “I’ve Grown Accustomed to His (Your) Face.” I also love her rendition of “Cast Your Fate to the Wind,” with a terrific orchestral backing. I see that it was released as a single and reached #61 in the fall of 1966… six full years after her initial hit – “Angel.” “Little Dancing Doll” was Shelby’s only other charting single, but it remained on the Billboard Bubbling Under chart at #103 in August 1963. “Magic Wand” could have been used in the soundtrack of an animated Disney feature. Can you imagine it used in that way, with Cinderella or The Little Mermaid singing it?

Shelby Flint’s vocals are pure as the driven snow. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this set of her original recordings. Consider me Songsuaded, dear friend Cathy. I’ll see you tamale for your 4M Monday post on Sunday. Have a wonderful weekend!
