Gospel music has always been a part of my life, but rock n’ roll is my forte. In the late 70s, I was introduced to contemporary Christian music. I remember the controversy this style of music stirred in my small southern WV community. Old timers saw this as a tool of the devil. How can Christian rock be of service to the Lord? After all, it sounded like dance music.
However, if the truth be told it matters not the style of melody the lyrics accompany. Music undeniably speaks to the heart. I believe through all styles of Christian music that seek to honor Jesus, then the Father is at work preparing hearts and minds for His son.
May God work in you this day a miracle through these songs by Mercy Me….

My first time hearing MercyMe but I love them. I’m a big gospel music fan myself – but mostly black gospel. Thanks for widening my world, these were perfect picks. Happy Monday!
love love love MercyMe music they are so good thank you for sharing some of these were new to me others i love very much
I’m an old fashioned fuddy duddy who prefers the old hymns and gospel music. Christian Rock does not speak to me, but I am happy it speaks to so many. Anytime we can spread the Word to the people, it’s a good thing!
It’s ok to be a fuddy duddy. While I prefer contemporary Christian music, I do like the classics old hymns very much. Those will always have a special spot in my heart.
Since I grew up choosing the Christian rock of Petra and Stryper; I’d say this was pretty tame. LOL
But I do remember a big panic in my church when our youth group asked to go to one of their concerts. Thankfully our young youth pastor felt the same as you that any Christian music could speak to the heart. He suggested that some of the older folks accompany us before they judge. And that is how I will forever have a hilarious cherished memory of one of our blue-haired older saintly women rocking out to Stryper. LOL
How lucky the youth in your church had someone who went to the mat on behalf of the kids. You know that saying, it’s hard to teach old dog new tricks? I’m happy that some old dogs are willing to be open-minded. Thanks for sharing your experiences and the funny story.
