Rick Astley

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable New Year celebration.  We’re beginning things fresh again, so let’s make this the best year yet.  Be a little kinder to others.  Live in the moment more.  Be happy.

Yesterday, I shared my newest James Bond Theme Song series BOTB edition, Writing’s On the Wall.  If you missed that post then it’s not too late to cast your vote. This week on the Monday’s Music Moves Me dance floor we’re boogieing to whatever music moves you, so the question is are you ready to party?

Last year I got curious about Rick Astley after hearing his global hit,  “Never Gonna Give You Up”.  He’s a fabulous singer but why nothing else beyond his 1987 hit made it to my ears is a mystery. I’m pretty sure it has something to do with motherhood.

Playlist 1. The Ones You Love 2. Waiting for the Bell to Ring 3. Hopelessly 4. A Dream for Us 5. Body and Soul 6. Enough Love 7. Natures Gift 8. Remember the Days 9. Everytime 10. When You Love Someone

Have you followed Astley’s career since his mega hit?  Do you like this soulful vibe in his Body and Soul album playlist?

This is a music linky party.  The 4M co-hostess are listed in my side bar.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

I’m resuming my Maine Vacation 2022 memories and photo series this Wednesday.  If you’re around, stop by for a visit. This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietastic week! X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. Granny has great memories about Never gonna give you up back in 1986. She never forgets that year💗 He only had another hit here that we remember, it’s called Together forever, but after that one it was silence. He still was making mewsic and performances, but never had a hit again at least not here in our Country. To bad because he has a very great sound. Double Pawkisses for a Happy, Healthy and Magical New Year to you and yours, dear CK. Your ecard was very touching. I don’t know if we respond to it, because it was the most stressful time this year that we ever had. Don’t ask why, there’s something in the air we can’t get yet. Anyway, make the most of this New Year!🐾😽✨

  2. There was something super endearing about Rick Astley crooning “Never gonna give you up….”

Sending you and yours warm wishes for the year ahead :
to start with a promise to be kinder to yourself,
    to rest more,
and to drink in life as it happens darlings!

    Wishing you peace in 2023.
Lots of love, dear Cathy ♥️🤍🎋✨

  3. I’m back now that my browser is behaving. Rick definitely has a voice that deserved more recognition. For some reason he reminds me of Michael McDonald. And thank you, John, for telling us about the AAA Insurance “Never Gonna Give You Up” ad. So tongue in cheek; I loved it! Alana ramblinwitham

  4. The Ones You Love is a great video and Rick has a voice I could listen to for a long time. Thanks for sharing his music today.

  5. The first time Mary and I saw Rick Astley on TV, she remarked at how great his voice was, and Mary typically tunes out most music. I always liked his music, and was suitably impressed when he walked away from the Europop he had been doing and started doing more soulful music. Naturally, he was almost forgotten. Still a fan favorite, there are a couple of recent concert videos of him on YouTube (search “Rick Astley 2022”). He also has done a new video of “Never Gonna Give You Up” that seems to be a promotion for AAA that, if you remember the old video (which is still on YouTube) is just hilarious…

  6. I’m having some browser issues right now and You Tube videos have crashed a couple of times, including yours. I am going to return later, but I was able to listen to a handful of songs. (It also happened on another blog so it isn’t you.) I loved The Ones You Love. I know I’ve heard other songs by this neglected artist but not sure if they were from this album and I can declare – I will never Give Him Up. Alana ramblinwitham

  7. I found this from an interview with him in July: “I kind of feel that if I hadn’t of done it then I would have self-imploded,” the English-born singer tells Page Six, admitting his heart was “not in it” anymore and it was time to move on.”

He currently is touring as supporting act to New Kids on the Block, En Vouge and Salt-n-Pepa.

Thanks for hosting this great party and Happy New Year to you and your family.

  8. That little one and that dog are in cahoots. Adorable and you made me say Awww.

Love the video. First I’ve heard of him. Love it. Wow.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs, my friend. ♥

  9. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Awww-some 4M Monday to you, dear friend, the first of 2023! I hope you and DH had a nice holiday weekend and that your year is off to a great start.

Awww… I just wanna smooch that cute little toddler and the family pooch. Looks like they didn’t do a very good job of hiding the evidence after they ate all the cake.

I love your advice to live in the moment and be happy. If we all followed those two simple rules, we’d find ourselves living in a better world.

Yessum, I like Rick Astley’s singing style, but I have not closely followed his recording career. The Englishman is prolific as well as terrific, with 9 studio albums and 24 singles to his credit. He performs a mix of pop, dance-pop and blue-eyed soul. My favorite songs on this 1993 Rick Astley album Body & Soul are “The Ones You Love” which was released as a single and reached #44 on the UK chart, “Hopelessly,” another single from the album that peaked at #33 on the Brit chart, “A Dream For Us,” “Enough Love” and “Nature’s Gift.”

At the MTV station where I worked in he 80s and 90s, Rick’s videos were heavily requested and frequently played. These included his monster debut hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” and the major follow-up hits “Whenever You Need Somebody,” “When I Fall In Love” and “Together Forever.”

I look forward to your next post on Wednesday in which you will continue your sightseeing tour of Maine and New Hampshire. I’ll be here! For your planning purposes, Pt. 1 of my New Year feature is currently running at Shady’s Place with Pt. 2 to follow three days from now on Thursday. I hope you can swing by for a look and a listen. Thank you for this morning’s Rick Astley concert, dear friend Cathy. Have a wonderful first week of 2023!
