RESULTS: Moonraker BOTB showdown

Howdy-hi, folks!  This is DH’s off Friday so I’m MIA in Blogosphere but I didn’t want to leave you hanging on last week’s Battle of the Band. The scales tipped heavily to one side.  I didn’t get these contenders evenly paired but at least it wasn’t a shut out.  I’m sure it won’t come as any surprise to learn the winner in this showdown is The Ian Rich Orchestra with Joanne Farrell! 👏

It appears today’s winner has recorded a few other James Bond theme songs.   They covered one of the theme songs I used in an earlier BOTB this  year, so I thought it would be nice to share the bands’ version.  Let’s give up for the winner TIRO with vocalist Joanne Farrell singing Goldfinger

VOTING RECAP….

Daniel Lantz Trio ft. Sani Gamedze:   Lee, Stephen, Diedre

The Ian Rich Orchestra with Joanne Farrell:  Tom, Eugenia, Sandee, John, Brian, Nicole, Debbie, Mary, Birgit, Mimi, Kinga, Mike

Thanks to everyone who made this a fun and interesting battle showdown.  I’ll be back with another James Bond theme song BOTB November 1st, so mark your calendar to be at the polls first thing.  I have a new installment of Saturday Songsuasion set to publish tomorrow morning, so if you’re around I hope you’ll stop by to enjoy the music.

Not to worry, I didn’t forget to leave some material that’ll leave you with some giggles and grins with these vintage Friday Funnies.  😉

Have a funtastic weekend, my friends! X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. I’m finally on the winning side for this showdown. It was the best rendition.

Love all the funnies and I linked this post to Feline Friday because there is a feline in last funny.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  2. Hi, Cathy!

    Happy Friday, dear friend!

Thanks for reporting the result of your latest band battle. While it feels good to be on the winning side, I respect the opinions of the jazz lovers who thought Dan & Sani laid down the more interesting version of “Moonraker.” I enjoyed Joanne Farrell’s version of “Goldfinger.” However, if I had been doing the arranging, producing and mixing, I would have asked Joanne to sing with greater urgency, fire and passion and placed her vocal slightly lower in the mix. I would have given the orchestra more prominence, packing more of a punch, playing the track in a more bold and swaggering style. For Bond themes to be convincing, they need to hint at danger and violence. Joanne’ version is a bit too pleasant to work. I suppose in making those alterations, I would merely be recreating the original, but so be it. It is a masterpiece.

I love the old school cartoons you posted for your Friday Funnies/Sillies. I’d like to know where that “body shop” is located, the one that employs all lady mechanics. I think I just heard my car cough.

How about those three gents literally flipping their lids over the busty gal whose dress got caught in an updraft? Coincidentally, I saw a very similar scene last evening when I watched Unfaithful, the 2002 Richard Gere – Diane Lane erotic thriller movie. It showed up in my recommendations on Hulu, and since it is one of my favorites, I decided to watch and study it again. Early in the film, Diane’s character, a frustrated housewife, battles very strong winds as she walks down a city street, fighting to keep her skirt from riding up. The wind actually blows her down to the sidewalk at one point, and a handsome young stranger comes to the rescue. The man invites her up to his flat where he administers first aid to her scraped knees. One thing leads to another, and the two begin a torrid affair. The best part of the film is the sequence showing the leading lady riding the commuter train back home and having numerous flashbacks about their steamy encounter. The range of facial expressions achieved by Diane Lane as she recalls every exciting moment of their romantic interlude are totally realistic and brilliantly executed.

I also like the third cartoon showing the smooching couple and the curious as a Cathy kitty watching them. Yessum, I also have a new post starting tamale, and I will gladly join you on the dance floor for your Saturday Songsuasion. Have a safe and happy Friday, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Thanks for stopping in to learn of the outcome of my last BOTB showdown. It was certainly lope sided. We’ve seen the flick “Unfaithful”. I recall that we liked it but that’s about it. I’m going to have to view the trailer again to refresh my memory. I love those sexy thrillers with lots of unexpected twists like “Fatal Attraction”. Glenn Close is brilliant in that film. She does crazy well!

  3. That’s a great song, CK and in fact the only movie of 007 that Granny has seen in the Cinema. We have to look back on the other performers..or being in time for the next contest😺Thanks for the MOL, especially the first one…😹Pawkisses for a wonderful weekend🐾😽💞

    1. Binky,

Tell Granny most of the James Bond films are easily streamed now. At one point either Netflix or Amazon Prime had all of them available. I’m not sure about now, though. A new Bond film hit the theaters this past Friday. I’m not anxious to see it at all. I haven’t liked the series for years. The writers/producers changed the light-hearted funniness of the movies and Daniel Craig isn’t a good James Bond. He’s a good actor, but not 007 material in my opinion. Thanks for popping by, my furriend!
