Puttin’ On the Ritz

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sunday, my friend!  Here we are at the end of the month with tomorrow being the last Monday in September.  This month’s honorary co-hostess did a swell job, don’t you think?  What’s that, I’m the honoree? Yeah, you caught me.  I should let you pat me on the back.  Go ahead, I won’t stop ya! 😀  Enough being silly already, you say…okay, for my final theme of the month, it’s National Scarf Day!  How about use songs that express your fashion style….  or, how about songs of being wrapped up in something physically or emotionally.  Is that enough of a challenge for you?  Whatever you come up with, it’ll be wonderful, just have fun with it!

Every time I hear the song “Puttin’ On the Ritz” (Ella Fitzgerald) I think of Young Frankenstein.  That’s a great movie! My favorite casual attire is a pair of well-worn jeans. The only person who might say “Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On” (Mel McDaniel) probably is no other than DH but he prefers to see me in “Short Shorts” (The Royal Teens).  Chris Young’s “Gettin’ You Home” mentions his lady’s black dress hitting the floor which sounds like a whole lot of fun.  I sorta have a shoe fetish but I really don’t like “Shoe Shopping” (Old Dominion) so I leave that up to DH who does enjoy buying everything for me.  It was cool to find a number of songs relating to footwear “Cha Cha Heels” (Eartha Kitt), “These boots Are Made for Walkin'” (Nancy Sinatra), “Red High Heels” (Kelli Pickler), “Pink Shoe Laces” (Dodie Stevens), and naturally “Boogie Shoes” (KC & the Sunshine Band) are a must on Mondays. Hit play to enjoy my fashion playlist!

This month’s honorary co-hostess is little ole ME

❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵❤️🎵

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

I have a question, which do you prefer the linky with the thumbnail or without?  Sometimes, linky misbehaves gathering one’s images to pick from or at least it does for me in which case I usually have to upload the one I want.  I thought I’d check to see how it’s working for you.  If it’s as much trouble for you as it is for me then perhaps a more basic linky is needed.  What do you think?

I hope you enjoyed my song selections for this last Monday in September.    It’s been a privilege to serve as honorary co-hostess for the 4M dance party.  Next time we meet, John from The Sound of One Hand Typing will take the reign choosing the themes for October.  It’s gonna be fun, so book your date now for the party and bring a friend with you, if you wanna. 😉  What’s next on CAAC? If you like music, then please join me for my newest edition of Top Ten Tuesdays.  Stay safe, be well, and have a boogietastic week, dear friends!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. WOW! We liked that mewsic, CK. It sure made my paws walking and Granny’s feet moving. Loved the cowboy style of Baby’s got her blue jeans on, we didn’t know that one yet. Now let’s cha cha cha…YeeHaw…Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend🐾😽💞

    1. Rain,

Well, darlin’ I’m just sorry that your good ole pal Jack needed to cross the Rainbow Bridge. That’s a very difficult decision but you have a big heart and want what’s ultimately best for your beloved fur babies. Continuing you to hold you in my thoughts and prayers, my dear!

  2. What an awesome playlist. My parents loved Ella and Puttin’ On the Ritz was among mom’s favorite songs. I don’t know which was the inspiration and which was the product of the inspiration, but during the 50’s a lot of local movie theaters were named The Ritz.
Love Pink Shoelaces. If you put those brown shoes and pink shoelaces with a White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation, you have a complete prom outfit.
Of course, if you hire KC & the Sunshine Band for your prom, then those pink shoe laces become attached to some Boogie Shoes.
    Have a blessed week.

  3. The gem here is Eartha Kitt’s Cha Cha heels, which I didn’t know about. Fantastic 80’s song with the Bronski Beat (of “Smalltown Boy” fame) and it echos a little of “These Boots were Made For Walking” at the beginning and end.(The one song we will have in common is “These Boots were Made for Walking.) I loved Ella Fitzgerald’s “Putting On the Ritz”. I forgot about Short Shorts and Pink Shoe Laces, songs of my childhood. Anyway, a very nice set!

    1. Eugenia,

I’ve been using Arvixe since 2014. The guy who runs the linky tools helped set up my account. I can’t recall how I did that, other than I might have gone through his site. But, if you don’t need any help then you’ll find a link to Arvixe in my footer. There’s a promo code listed but I’m not sure if it applicable still. If you decide you want to try them out and just so you’ll know if you click the banner then I supposedly will get a little commission but it’s been a long time since I signed on as affiliate and I’m not even sure they still have that program. If you have any further questions feel free to ask. I do my best to answer them. 🙂 PS: On second thought, if you do choose to try Arvixe, then you may want to get Brent from LinkyTools to help. He did a good job moving my old Blogspot account over.

  4. I love your songs about fashion and style, Wow, you covered some ground with your selection. I don’t know that much about linky since I’ve seen only a few bloggers using it. Happy Monday on Sunday! 😘

  5. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Awww-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH are having a nice weekend.

I want to put on my my my my my
Boogie shoes just to boogie with you,

i enjoyed your song block dedicated to songs that refer to fashion statements. You and I were discussing the style of song used in David Lynch productions. Well, the first song in your set, “Puttin’ On the Ritz,” reminds me of the type of song used by another favorite David, TV writer and producer David E. Kelley, the man responsible for many of the hit TV shows Mrs. Shady have watched and loved including Doogie Houser, M.D., Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, Boston Legal, Harry’s Law, Goliath, Big Sky and the latest being Nine Perfect Strangers, the 2021 miniseries Kelley created that is now streaming on Hulu. I’m currently bingeing on it. Kelley routinely laces episodes of his shows with ritzy, glitzy, lavish song and dance routines in which old school standards like “Puttin’ On The Ritz” are performed, often by cast members. Of course, I remember The Royal Teens’ big hit “Short Shorts” from my boyhood. It doesn’t surprise me that DH likes his special sweetie to wear short shorts because she has the perfect legs for them, and that he even does the shoe shopping for you. I never heard that song by Old Dominion that focuses entirely on footwear. The discofied “Cha Cha Heels” by Eartha “Catwoman” Kitt accompanied by the British synthpop trio Bronski Beat, is another song new to my ears. Released in 1989, Eartha’s single sounds a lot like “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” by the English pop group Dead or Alive. The song’s lyrics make reference to Nancy’s “Boots” hit and the arrangement and melody also have elements of the retro disco “Georgio Moroder sound,” seeming to borrow from “I Feel Love,” the 1977 disco anthem recorded by another sultry soul siren, Donna Summer. I enjoyed Kellie Pickler’s sexy song and mewsic video about “Red High Heels.” Just yesterday, I was mentioning Dodie Stevens and her hit “Pink Shoe Laces” in another blog comment. The song is a biggie from my boyhood. I already quoted the lyrics of KC’s “Boogie Shoes” earlier in this comment. Those words immediately popped into my noggin when you mentioned the shoe and footwear theme.

In support of your theme, I could add Eddie Fisher’s 1956 rock & roll hit “Dungaree Doll,” plus “Black Slacks” and “Penny Loafers And Bobby Socks” – two 1957 hits by the South Carolina rock & roll/rockabilly group Joe Bennett & the Sparkletones, plus “Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots” – a 1955 hit for The Cheers, a group that included future game show host Bert Convy, and finally “Bobby Sox to Stockings,” a 1959 hit for teenage idol Frankie Avalon.

Yessum, I agree that you did a fine job serving as this month’s honorary co-hostess for the 4M dance party.

That closing meme is a good one, a different way of thinking about the wedge driven between brother and brother, neighbor and neighbor, and a way we can find our way back to each other.

Enjoy your Sunday and have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!
