Pre-spring blooms

Welcome Kittens & Dawgs! It makes me happy you decided to join me for Wordless or in my case not-so-wordless Wednesday fun. Let’s give a round of applauds to this week’s featured photographer….

Pre-spring blooms DSC_6030

Last week while running errands and soaking up all that spring-like weather my eyes were amazed at the show of pre-spring blooms. Aren’t these purple magnolias beautiful?

On this particular day the sky was a bit gray, but the clouds were breaking a bit and long after I snapped these shots we saw blue skies.

It was quite windy. Auto-focus was going crazy with all the movement, so I manually focused on this bloom to get a sharp image. Because of where this tree is located I couldn’t get close enough, so I used my long zoom (55mm-300mm) lens for this shot. Considering my distance and the elements working against me this picture turned out rather nice.

This week I’m celebrating pre-spring blooms! What are you celebrating?

Next month, I am participating in the April A-Z Blog Challenge. In order to get ready for it, then from here until the end of April, I am rolling my photo contributions and end of week hops into my Wordless Wednesday post.

    1. Thank you, Raquel for your lovely sweet comments.

For anyone who can’t read Spanish, including me. According to Google this translates as:

Beautiful photos , spring is approaching and nature makes us sber with these wonderful flowers …
      kisses

  1. Very pretty. I do like the close up of the bloom much better than the farther views, but those have a nice quality to them as well. They might make a good background image for your blog.

  2. This pics are beautiful-We won’t see this for another month. I love the artistic impressionist style you did with the last pic

    1. Birgit, being a further south makes a huge difference on when you see spring blooms and when you don’t. Our parents live in southern West Virginia and western Virginia; when we travel back home this time of year they aren’t enjoying the spring colors like we are and that’s only a 4-hour drive north of us, so any farther north has to wait all the longer for spring-time blooms to arrive. But, the good news is it’s not far away! Thanks for popping over!

  3. Hi, Cathy!

When I lived up north my spirits always got a lift at this time of year when blossoms started forming and opening. I remember tulips and daffodils poking up through the deep snow some years. My dad, the shutterbug, love to capture close-ups of buds and blossoms. He would surely admire your pictures.

Have a happy Wednesday, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom, I grew up in southern WV and it wasn’t uncommon to see snow on the ground in mid-March with daffodils piercing the blanket of white. I’m glad my photos remind you so much of your dad and the things he liked to photograph. Happy Wednesday to you, my friend!

    1. Patrick, you’re welcome! Glad to have your visit today and thankful to have you as a blog buddy and fellow photographer. Have a good day!

  4. Wow. Now that is certainly beautiful photography and artwork. What photo program do you use? I am (finally) looking into this. Thanks!

    1. McGuffy, so glad you like the photos! The purple magnolia blooms are simply beautiful after so much gray. The photo program I used on the very last image is called Brushstrokes. As far as I know it’s only available for use on mobile devices. If you search the Apple App Discovery widget in this post, then you can learn a little more about it. As far as my other photos, I used Pixelmator (you can also find this one through at Apple) to add my copyright info.

  5. All I can think of to say is, “Ahhhhhhhhhhhh SPRING”!!! Hope all is well with you my friend. Gonna have to try my hand at this photo stuff…. hehehe

    1. Marie, thanks popping in today. Yes, you’re going to have to get into this photo stuff. It’s a great way to express your creative side!
