POP Chart Favorites from 1988

Posted on June 29, 2015

This was the year DD#1 was born. In fact, she turned 27 yesterday. Happy Birthday, Sweetie!

This morning, I’m dedicating my post to my sweet baby girl. Let’s listen to more POP Chart Favorites from 1988!

I have a black hole in my memory surrounding those early days as a new mommy. The week Brittany was born, Michael Jackson topped the chart for one week with Dirty Diana. Honestly, I do not remember this song, but it’s not one of my favorites by MJ s so I don’t feel I missed too much with its debate release.

Cheap Trick stayed on top for 2-weeks with The Flame (July 3-16), another one that escaped me somehow. I blame it on the late night feedings and diaper changing.

July 17-23, Richard Marx took the spotlight with Hold On To The Nights. I do remember this one, but whether it was from the original release date I can’t swear to it. I do like the song… a lot.

Steve Winwood rode the charts for 4-weeks (July 24 – August 20) with Roll With It.  However, this is my favorite song from 1988. My memory is fuzzy on when this song actually registered with me.

Motherhood comes with a steep price. Working around the clock really did something to my brain or at least that’s the story I’m telling.  I wouldn’t change a thing, though. The lapses in my memory pale in comparison to all the other many wonderful memories motherhood gave me.  I’d gladly do it all over again, and again, and again.

What songs do you remember from 1988? Do  you have a black hole in your memory?

Thanks for dancing with me. Let’s keep the party going, link up and join the fun at XmasDolly.

A good year to be born, that year was also one of the most beautiful of my life. Excellent Steve Winwood, and happy birthday to Brittany!

I would have been in high school then and I do remember all these songs. The Flame was a big one at the dances. This wasn’t really the music I listened to back then though — I was into more obscure (at least back then) bands that were not necessarily in the Top 40. Like U2, The Smiths, The Cure, The Pogues. Although I do remember that was the time I think INXS was hitting it big and I did like them.

Happy Birthday to your beautiful daughter! 🙂 The 80’s sure had some great music, didn’t they? Iremember those songs! And yes, I have various black holes in my memory – I refer to them as ‘Mom Brain’. 😉 Have a wonderful week, Cathy! Thanks for the dance! 🙂

Mom Brain is a good one. I think I used the term Mommy Amnesia to describe my horrible holey memory. It’s good to hear that I don’t suffer alone with said condition.

Hi, dear Cathy and happy 27th birthday to your lovely daughter Brittany!

In 1988 I was working at that MTV style television station I think I might have told you about. Your first three featured songs were all heavily requested and frequently played by our staff of veejays. Other 1988 songs and videos that were played at my station and stand out in my memory include “Heaven Is a Place On Earth” by Belinda Carlisle, “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” by Billy Ocean, “Is This Love” by Whitesnake, “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard, “What Have I Done To Deserve This” by The Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield, and one you might not be familiar with that had a tremendous impact on me – “Breakaway” by an Australian funk band called Big Pig.

Dear Cathy, I am out of town until Wednesday night and will be on the road much of that day. If you participate in BOTB please understand if I am late getting over here to listen and vote. I probably won’t have time until Thursday. Thank you, dear friend!

Tom, thanks for stopping by a wee visit, and don’t worry about not getting around to my BOTB post. I just hope to see when time allows you to hop back over. I really appreciate you squeezing me in when you did and for the sweet bday wishes for DD#1. I’m always in awe of the musical talent associated with BOTB. Did you know DH was a DJed at nearby radio station during his summers and for years his oldest brother, Alan, DJed. I never got the pleasure of hearing DH on the air, but sometimes he will intro a song between tracks. He has a nice style. Nothing like today with all the programming, etc. Oh well…see you soon!

I believe Whitney Houston came out with a song called, “One Moment in Time” in 88′. I’m a big Houston fan as you know. Anyway, congrats to your baby girl on her birthday. Time goes by much too quickly as far as I’m concerned especially when it comes to our kids, right? A big shout out to your little girl, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”!!! Rockin’ to your tunes that’s for sure. Thanks for the boogie and have a rocktastic week my friend.

Happy birthday Brittany. I was sweet sixteen in 88, listening mostly to soul. I remember some of these from the charts though. 🙂

Shah, Judging by your photo I thought you were just a kid yourself. That’s a marvelous quality (youthful appearance) to have. I was 26 in 1988. I’ll let you do the math on how old I am now. lol Anywho, thanks for popping over for a dance this morning! 😉

In 1988 I was in high school, so I do remember the music, but not the music that everyone else was listening to. And I get fuzzy about dates for various songs. I was probably rocking to some Siouxsie and the Banshees or REM or New Order. Not The Cure, though. Wasn’t a big fan of The Cure.

Liz, Usually I associate songs with dates, but I rarely can remember the artist unless its a big name. The 80s was a wonderful era for music. There were some excellent dance tunes produce during that decade and still remain amongst my favorites today.
