Living in the south east, as you can image seeing the Northern Lights isn’t something we’re privy to, but last year we got a rare glimpse of the phenomena. So, when I spotted Rain’s YT art tutorial announcement last week I made a point to check it out and like always, Rain shared with ease how anyone can paint or illustrate the Borealis.
I’m not a painter or at least not with physical media canvas, tubes of paint, brushes, …. I am a mock painter. What I mean by this is, I use digital technology to create my masterpieces. Illustrating my design using Procreate and for a painting-like effect I use my Brushstrokes app.
Am I the next DaVinci? Not hardly and certainly will never make money doing this nor will my heirs. I doodle for the sheer creative pleasure it brings. I’m blabbing too much, so here are my sample pieces.
This is the first new art piece I’ve done in a long time. The definitely plan to try my hand at the Northern Lights again. My preferred rendition of this piece is the oil painting. The texture softens the hard lines created in the original. It would be awesome if we could see this light show further north someday.
Thankful Thursdays…
I’m thankful for the good progress I’m making with thinning the good from the bad digital photos I’ve taken over the last 15 years. The scanned photos probably won’t change much unless I discover duplicates.
I’m thankful that I’m getting things shaped up with our online presence as I assign identifiable email addresses for sites we use regularly, setting up 2FAs whenever possible, creating super strong passwords, and deleting all accounts (but not before changing personal data) we don’t need.
I’m thankful we both got our annual dental cleanings/checkup done and all went well which makes me especially thankful that no more time (cross fingers, say a prayer) is needed in the dentist chair for either of us the rest of the year. That’s such a good feeling after last year.
For those interested, my May 1st BOTB published a few minutes earlier and I’d love it if you’d take part in the voting process. I’m trying to get in the moment when I can and hadn’t intended to have a second post today but it just worked out that way. That’s it for now, up next time on CAAC is my Friday Funnies’ Edition. Have a doodletastic day!

Beautiful art and nice list of thankfuls. XO
I got a glimpse of Northern Lights activity many years ago driving up in the Dakotas. It was like lightening.

We are watching the TV series, Ice Road Truckers and get glimpses of the Northern Lights that frequently appear up in the episodes. The wavy neon green lights seem to dance across the night sky. In pictures other colors and bands of light move against a near pitch black sky. Our daughter in Maine sent some us some really nice shots she got last year. What we saw here in the valley a year ago could barely be detected with the eye. Our phone’s camera picked it up better. The experience was still cool.
