Monday Morning Musings #14

Trouble started with the first snap of Super Bowl XLVIII when the ball shot past Peyton’s head and into the Seahawks end zone giving them a touchback. From that point forward, it was downhill all the way for the Denver Broncos.

To put it simply, Denver was not up to speed for the biggest football match of the year. Everything was pretty much left in Peyton Manning’s hands to pull off a victory but one guy alone can’t win a game. I mean, how can points be scored when there are no runners to throw to and no coverage?

The Seattle Seahawks wanted the win. They played aggressively and hard – breathing down Manning’s neck, successfully blocking the Broncos receivers, and even picking off the ball. The scoreboard was totally off-balance with the Seahawks dominating the entire game. It would have been more fun to see these two teams closer in scores but as it was I felt kind of frustrated for myself and then for Peyton.

The Come Back Kid after four neck surgeries lost his chance to get a Super Bowl victory for the first time with the Broncos. My heart is a bit heavy for the team, but I have high hopes of seeing Manning and the Broncos do a return in 2015.

Let’s get Monday started, so grab a cup of your favorite hot beverage while you settle in to read my responses to a few of my favorite Monday memes on Monday Morning Musings!

My first blog hop takes me to Stasha from The Good Life has a fun Monday Listicles prompt “10 guilty pleasures” sent in by Phoebe.

My 10 guilty pleasures

  1. lava cake served with vanilla ice cream & hot fudge sauce
  2. dark chocolate truffles
  3. hot glazed donuts
  4. Blue Bell peanut butter chocolate ice cream
  5. Blue Bell Rocky Mountain Road ice cream
  6. PF Chang’s Great Wall of Chocolate cake
  7. New York style cheesecake
  8. chocolate covered salted caramels
  9. home-made caramels (next time I make a batch, I’m gonna try making a salted version)
  10. cake of any kind, but I prefer rich, dark chocolate cake with butter-cream frosting

All of my guilty pleasures have to do with food. I feel like such a cow now. Mmmm…speaking of which, I do like chocolate milk! It’s been too chilly for cold beverages, but I can turn chocolate milk into hot chocolate.  Now…there’s a thought! Anyone up for a cup of hot cocoa? *smiles*

Heather @Acting Balanced is back with this week’s MQAM hop. Each week, she & sidekick post four loaner questions to answer, and then allow a free-for-all fifth question of our choice for readers to respond to in the comments. Here’s what I have to say…

1. Happy February! It’s Canned Food Month… who knew? Do you can your own foods? Do you eat canned foods? No, I don’t can food or have I ever canned food. I have eaten canned food in the past, but ever since my in-laws stopped gardening then my supply went out, too. I miss their green beans terribly!

2. February 3rd is also the day the music died – Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and The Big Bopper died in a plane crash in 1959. What other great musicians would you like to honor today? In October 1977, three members of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band died in a plane crash. All under the age of 30. They were Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines. One of the most popular songs the group did in the early 70s is…

3. Do you listen to the radio? Internet radio? I only listen to the radio in the car, but I do have Internet radio on in the house for several hours each day. I just love iTunes radio!

4. Both Wiarton Willie (Canada) and Puxotawny Phil (US) saw their shadows and predict six more weeks of winter – do you agree? This is so funny. When I was a kid I thought there was some sort of magic to the whole groundhog thing seeing his shadow. I didn’t realize that regardless if Puxotawny Phil saw his shadow or not that there was till six weeks to go before spring arrived. As we know Phil saw his shadow, so I just hope the next six weeks aren’t horrible cause I’m so tired of the cold weather!

My question for today: Did you watch the Super Bowl? If so, did your team win?

Do you like music? Would you like a fun, loving group of loyal bloggers to visit you week after week after week? If you’re nodding your head yes like I think you are, then you’re gonna wanna check out my Monday’s Music Moves Me post and be a part of the dance floor shakin’!

  1. I just gained 10 pounds reading your list – wow, and yum!

I did watch the Super Bowl, but only because everyone else does and you miss the water cooler talk if you don’t, and I usually love the commercials! I ended up rooting for the Broncos…..that didn’t turn out well!

  2. Ahh that was a game. I think they weren’t evenly matched at all. Seems so weird. It was as they just weren’t supposed to win. Sad, but someone must lose. I was talking to the kids about winning and losing in the car this morning.

  3. The Super Bowl was tough to watch and I must admit we didn’t stick it out. Too hard to see the Broncos down so badly!

Homemade caramels sound glorious! I haven’t made any in years!

I didn’t realize that Canada also had the groundhog tradition!

  4. Winter lasts until April here — it’s a forgone conclusion. But I love the idea of Groundhog Day. My daughter came home with the cutest craft today too.

American Pie – one of the best songs ever!

Guilty pleasures: I will also have to go with chocolate, since I just I ate a whole one of those Diary Milk coconut and cashew bars! But also coffee (clearly a must with the chocolate), a good slightly (but not too much) smutty romance book, long baths, and one that I am slowly phasing out: Entertainment news/gossip. I find knowing too much about a celebrity is ultimately disappointing.

  5. I watched the Super Bowl, and overall, I was disappointed with the game and the majority of commercials.

I’m a foodie and love your Monday Listicles list. Ice cream was one of the things that made mine. Also, those cakes in the bakery section of grocery stores is one of my guilty pleasures (why didn’t I think of putting it on there) – there’s just something about the frosting that I really love.

  6. We watched a little past halftime, then turned the channel to Downton Abbey. I’m not sure it can even be called a game. I didn’t care who won, but did expect a good football game. A real embarrassment for Denver.
