Misheard Song Lyrics

Please visit Sandee at Comedy Plus for Awww Mondays

The theme this is week, submitted by Alana at Ramblin’ with AM is Misheard Song Lyrics.  I know I have sang the wrong lyrics many times but I can’t think of a single one at this moment.  These days, I just can’t remember the words like I once did and new stuff I misunderstand 80% of what’s being sang.

I ran through a few articles on this subject hoping to jog my memory.  The closest I came is I vaguely remember getting the words of ABBA’s 1976 hit, Dancing Queen.

BusinessInsider wrote… According to NPR, a British poll revealed that this particular line from Dancing Queen  “See that girl, watch that scene, diggin’ the dancing queen,” but some seem to think it’s “See that girl, watch her scream, kicking the dancing queen.” was the No. 1 most commonly misheard lyric in 2014.

Another article I came across also referenced different misheard lyrics from the same song.

The Hollywood Report shared…A line in one of the band’s most popular songs is often sung as “feel the beat on the tangerine,” but the correct lyric is “feel the beat on the tambourine.”

I know for fact I also sang the first line wrong but I heard a different lyric arrangement from those polled in 2014. The point being, our brain is prong to doing weird things. Why is that? I guess that’ll forever be a mystery.

What song lyrics have you misheard?

This is a music link up.  Your post must contain at least one song, if not your URL is marked “NO MUSIC” or worse deleted.

The 4M co-hostess are featured in my right side bar underneath the banner. The guidelines are simple.  Every other week, a suggested (not mandatory) theme is given to build your song picks. YouTube and other music sites have options to create and embed playlists or individual songs into your post. On the off weeks, we dance to whatever music moves you (your choice)! To access the party, add your music post below, and visit others on the dance floor. Let the party begin!

I will make an attempt to include Ellen’s Friendly Fillins at 15andMeowing when I think of it in my 4M post.  Here are my response.

1. I refuse to spend more than a few hours each morning for online activities that can easily get away from me .

2. I am not ashamed to admit I believe in God the Father, the son, and the Holy Ghost.

3. I’ve been obsessed with binge watching The Americans lately.

4. When someone tells me so incredibly stupid, I sometimes find it hard to not give them a look that say, “Really?” or just burst out loud because it’s that bad.

One more thing before I sign off, Marie sent an email that came in late Thursday.  She had a bit of health scare and was in the hospital.  Apparently our girl had a “slight heart attack”.  Also, she’s still dealing with problems with her computer.  Her health is the most important, so please keep her in prayer.  As I learn more, I’ll share the news.  Have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋

  1. My dearest Cathy,

Good to be back after eons. And this had me in splits:

  2. There’s a lot of misheard lyrics out there. 🙂 Doesn’t matter, the songs are still great, regardless.

Best wishes to Marie for a speedy recovery!

  3. MOL…we like these mispelling lyrics, CK. 4. Howdy, CAThy! ~

In my last Battle Of The Bands installment I used the song ‘Spill The Wine’. Like most people, I misunderstood the lyrics and thought that what was being sung was “spill the wine, take that girl”. However, two or three years ago I discovered that it was “take that pearl”, not “girl”.

Also, for the longest time, I thought the hit song by Dobie Gray, ‘Drift Away’, was saying “Give me the Beach Boys to free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away.” But actually it’s “beat, boys”, not “Beach Boys.”

    1. Stephen,

I’m sorry for missing out in voting in your mid BOTBs round. We’re just too busy here with this and that and the other. I’m happy to stay in my ignorance and misunderstanding of song lyrics. It doesn’t change anything, I still love the songs sung correctly or not. 🙂

      1. No worries. I’m only a week away from a new Battle, anyway.

  5. Awww on those cute puppies. I want them all. Pups are such fun.

I’ve misheard to many different songs and my son used to tell me that that’s not what they are singing mom, as he rolls his eyes. Fond memory.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Kids know how to spoil things, don’t they? lol My kiddos called me out a few times on song lyrics, too. Have a boogietastic week, Sandee!

  6. My favorite mishead was from Tony Orlando and Dawn, Knock Three Times. Someone thought it was knock three times means I’ll pee pee in the hallway.

Prayes to Marie from all of us.

  7. I used the same ABBA song because I think that misheard lyric is so common. I can’t tell you how many misheard lyrics I’ve racked up in my life – probably 15% of Elton John’s Tiny Dancer and much of Manfred Mann’s Blinded by the Light. And Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit is about 80% mumble to my ear. My husband misheard a lyric in a Chicago song that was as clear as day to me, and it’s become a private joke (clean) for us – of all things, the lyric discusses relationships. Alana ramblinwitha

    1. There have been a number of song lyrics misheard over the years. I just can’t remember what they are now. lol Usually, I catch them if I happen to sing along with one of the said songs and DH will say, “What did you just say?” That’s when he tells me I have it wrong and I correct him by saying it’s the band that’s wrong because that’s the way I’ve been singing all these years. lol

    1. Hi Cathy I think we often just hear what we want to hear! Also with groups who’s first language is not English there are bound to be mishearings 💜💜💜
