Almost three years to the day, I shared the image above of this gorgeous January afternoon sky with the Skywatch Friday community. I find it hard to comprehend the end of the first month of the new year so soon. I took the liberty to play with my photograph in Pixelmator Pro to remove the power lines and to brighten the exposure. When you shoot straight into the sun the digital sensors go a bit bonkers trying to tone the light down and often making the picture too dark.
I doubt if we’ll see the sun today with a clouds in our forecast this Wednesday but we’ll see how it develops. At least temperature-wise it isn’t supposed to be horrible. Again, I’m waiting to see how things shape up. By the end of January, we tend to have more cold, unpredictable conditions.
A week ago this past Monday, Eugi’s Causerie used COMPLICATED as her weekly word prompt. Like usual, I’m running late for the party as I continue to find my way back into creative writing. I’m not poet but I’m putting my best foot forward. 😉
A photo capture from a January night in 2018 never made its presence on CAAC. I guess I was less than excited about the image quality but looking at it now I sorta like it and am going to display it for you.
Last year at January’s end, we had a bit of snowy precipitation bringing to our part of the city a couple of inches. For some reason, I failed to share it with you. Again, I think it’s because I didn’t like the picture.
What’s the weather like where you are?

Last week, I asked about the annual April A2Z blog fest. Some of y’all said you were doing it while others are declining. I get it, it’s really a busy thing to keep up with but I’m often compelled to get onboard since it pushes me to create, so with the discussion fresh in my head I started working on my pencil sketches. This year, I hope to share both pencil and Procreate illustrations but we’ll see how I do on time. I just wanna have fun with it. I’m still waiting for the sign-up announcement to go live on the official A to Z Challenge blog but I’ll keep you posted on how my progression is coming as well as any mews updates I learn about the blog fest.
That’s it for now but I hope you’ll join me tomorrow for my latest Procreate art sketch creation for Rain’s Thursday Art Date!

Last year this time it was 75˚ colder if you can believe that! #polarvortex
Jeanna,
Holy Moly -75º cooler? That is hard to believe for sure!
Great photos! It’s cold here but not bitter. January weather lasted only one day at the beginning of the month.
Linda,
Yeah, that about sums it up for us cold but not bitter. It’s been a strange winter. We’ve that cold snap that last several days but now things have mellowed out. I thought we might get another round of it but the extended forecast is showing temperatures improving. I guess Old Man winter will take a last stand on the heel of springs or after the calendar declares it’s officially spring.
The pictures are lovely. We tend to be so much more critical of our own stuff. That last one looks so wintery.
Liz,
Yep, we are the most critical of our stuff. I’m trying to not so hard on myself but it’s not easy to stop that foolishness. Thanks!
Beautiful pics and a beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing both.
Patrick,
Thank you for your kind words and visit. Have a good day!
Such a pretty sky! We have clouds, but that’s okay, i remember the sun is shining above them.
Mimi,
I can handle some clouds if I can see some blue sky but I really don’t like it when the sky is blanket in grayness. The sun generally doesn’t peak through on those days. I do like your attitude, though. 🙂
The sky is amazing and so is the snow, we don’t like snow but it is very pretty!
Brian,
I don’t like the snow a whole lot but since it’s rare or so it seems then I enjoy the little that we get. 🙂
Fabulous post along with breathtaking pictures.. what more does a person want. hahaha Hey girlfriend, love the pics & thanks for your input on the A2Z info. You’re duh best. Well, off to the store for a few essentials. Who luvs ya baby! HUGS
Beautiful and I love your take on complicated.
It’s cold here, but our winter hasn’t been all that bad. Pretty mild. Friday the temperature here is supposed to reach 65. That’s pretty good.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥
Beautiful photo and lovely poem, as well, Cathy! I shared this Jan. 24, 2020 – https://amanpan.com/2020/01/24/sharing-complicated-by-curious-as-a-cathy/
Lovely photos! Thanks!
Thanks for joining me today, Kathe! 😉
Beautiful photos. I would not mind some snow, our ground is too bare. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day! XO
Ellen,
We might get a little snow next weekend but I seriously doubt it’ll stay around long with our temps being so mild during the days. Over the past few months the weather alerts we get are usually for the Smoky’s. The road that crosses the mountain has been closed several times due to snow or ice or both…oh yeah and high winds. I know we’re long past due a good snow fall and I’m sure it’ll hit us totally unexpectedly like the Blizzard of ’93. That was so crazy!
Nice photos Cathy we haven’t had any snow yet in London it’s been cold though 🙁
I added you to my Linky have a snowtastic week 🙂
Steve,
Hmm, I thought I added myself to your linky. I guess I forget when I was there. I do that sometimes, so thanks and it’s great seeing you here today!
We are happy we have snow and some cold, but it it hovering around freezing which is way too warm and makes our weather really crappy. Hoping for real cold again soon.
My two youngest kids love cooler weather. In fact, our youngest daughter moved to Maine two years ago and loves it there not only for the beautiful state that it is but because of the cold and snow. Oh yeah, the summers aren’t as hot for her either. I wouldn’t do so well in a northern climate and am happy where we are with little to no snow and mild winters. 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
Wonderful photos and words Cathy, thanks for sharing and have a great day, hugs, Valerie
You’re most welcome and thank you for visiting, Valerie!
What a wonderful photo of the moon! I always seem to just get a yellow blob.

Photographing the night sky is hard. I used my telephoto lens and made sure to open the aperture up and used a slower shutter speed that’s comfortable for a handheld shot. It’s not purfectly sharp but that’s ok. I like anyhow. I really need to use a tripod of these types of photos but I’m always in a hurry to get a shot. Thanks for visiting!
