It’s Raining Men BOTB Showdown

April showers brings May flowers.  I’ve wanted for sometime to use The Weather Girls’ hit It’s Raining Men.  The early 80s hit topped the US Billboard Dance Club Play chart.  This song was put together well with two women who didn’t take any of it serious and had a lot of fun singing about it raining men.  A tidbit you may know that I learned is Paul Shaffer co-wrote this song. I figured this would be a difficult battle going in. I soon found that my pickins’ were terribly slim. There’s a few male renditions but that’s just too weird men singing it’s raining men, in my opinion so I knew right off I wanted female artists in this round.

First up is an Australian pop girl group. The ladies are former Australian Idol contestants that form this group who did a national tour to promote each as solo artists.  Please listen to Young  Divas!

The next all girl group is a sister act from Ireland who I was introduced to by some of you. Please listen to The Nolans!

Polls close at noon (ET) on the 7th!

One more video for your entertainment only by former Spice Girls, Geri Halliwell. I thought it was a lot of fun.

That concludes another edition of Battle of the Bands.   I hope you have time to check out the other battles underway. The list of participants is in my side bar beneath the BOTB banner. Don’t forget to tell me in comments who’s your favorite artist. With this battle, I’m going to follow the lead of others with presenting the final results in comments along with my vote.  This is CAAC signing off, have a bandtastic day!

  1. Oh I am going with the Aussie group. They seem to harmonize just a bit better. I know this song as it was in Bridget Jone’s diary. It’s an older song too, I believe.

    1. My dear Birgit, thank you, thank you, thank you for keeping my battle from being a shutout. Young Divas gets their first vote! 👏

  2. VOTE = THE NOLANS

It was a squeaker, though. I think I liked the music better, but I also liked the family aspect of The Nolans vs. the let’s-put-a-group-together-to-promote-a-tour mode. Man, I really dug the Gerri Halliwell video, too, making a Flashdance/Fame tribute out of it. Nice. ~Ed.

    1. Ed,

I have your vote recorded for The Nolans.

Geri’s music video is a lot of fun and I think she does a fabulous job covering it, too. Thanks for playing along, my friend.

  3. CAThy! It’s That YOU, With An Umbrella, Singin’ In The Rain! ~

I wasn’t at all familiar with this song, but just the concept of it made me GOL! (Guffaw-Out-Loud!) And then, when I read this comment you made…

…”The song works beautifully for April showers.”

…I GOL’d again! Very clever, Girl!

Before I type any more, I want to first remind all of the ladies out there that men like ME do not grow on trees, nor do men like ME rain from the heavens. If you want a man like ME, you’re going to have to earn him. What do I mean by “earn”? I mean… cook, clean, pay the rent on time, make sure my favorite beer is always in the fridge (my favorite beer is the one labeled “Beer”, like Archie Bunker drank), and waste no time in leaving the doghouse and running to me when I whistle for you! I hope all of that is clearly understood.

    Now, onto this Battle…

Lee voted for “Geri Halliwell mostly for the video that evoked memories of Flashdance and Fame”. He’s right about that, which is PRECISELY why I never would have voted for Geri Halliwell …IF she were eligible to receive any votes. (Fun Fact: I used to work on the TV show ‘Fame’. But I only did it for the money.)

Both of these songs sounded too “FlashFame” for my tastes. But between the two, I slightly preferred THE NOLANS. Only because they included some vocal oddities & asides that seemed to indicate they were having a bit o’ fun with the song.

Lastly, I want to add (because I’ve got to be me, regardless of how politically incorrect I am), it’s quite ironic that at the 1:49 point in the Geri Halliwell video, all of the “men” who come “raining” into the room are… uhm… well… not as “manly” as Geri Halliwell. :^D

    Bless & Be Blessed!!

    1. Stephen,

Your requirements in a soulmate don’t sound too unreasonable. Perhaps a very nice lady in Blogosphere will see this and respond to your dating ad. Your reference to Archie Bunker made me smile. Those were the days! You can’t find TV programming like that anymore unless it’s re-runs. I hate seeing almost men dance like women and having them shirtless doesn’t do anything for me. I couldn’t be any less interested. Oh, that’s cool you worked on the set of “Fame”. I think I watched the program show a handful of times. Thanks making it this way to vote for The Nolans. It’s looking like this is going to be a shut out. Blessings to you, my dear friend!

  4. I liked the last one the best. What a body. I remember having that kind of body.

I linked this post to Happy Tuesday. This is a most happy post.

Okay, my vote is for the Nolans.

Have a fabulous day and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Hey Sandee,

I never had a body that looks as good as Geri’s. She’s looks darn good in this video. I was always small but tight abs was something I lacked. I think some people can build their bodies better than others. Anywho, so happy you enjoyed the clip. It rocks!

The Nolans gets a second vote. Thanks for playing along and for linking me on Happy Tuesday!

  5. What a cruel April Fools joke to play on us. I’m glad you didn’t include any male artists singing this song. That would have been too much for me too stand.

The first two sounded almost identical so I’m going to eliminate them right off and vote for Geri Halliwell mostly for the videos that evoked memories of Flashdance and Fame, movies that I enjoyed back in the eighties. Not a song that I would listen to as a rule, but I didn’t pay much attention to it when it was playing regularly wherever.

    Lee

    1. Lee,

Having men to sing this song would’ve made it truly a cruel battle. Ugh, that just gives me the willies! I like men who act like men and aren’t ashamed to be one. Anywho, I couldn’t resist using this for my battle song this month. The song works beautifully for April showers. Unfortunately, the last clip is for your entertainment only. I really wanted to include Geri in the mix but I just knew I’d have a blow-out. She’s not only does it better but so is her video. You’re welcome to stay where you are or you can vote again. It’s your choice, my friend. Thanks for playing along!

      1. I totally missed that note not to vote and I thought I had read pretty carefully noting that there were actually 3 wretched versions of this song.

Okay, so give my vote to the Nolans. I still think they are both the same group, but I like their picture better.

        Lee

        1. It’s okay. I figured it was an oversight. I know when I have too much on my mind and I know right now you do with the A2Z, then I know I frequently make goofs I’d otherwise wouldn’t. Another vote goes to The Nolans!

Thanks for taking time to recast your vote, my friend!!
