Ice Sculptures are fascinating works of art from raw materials. These artistic wonders can range in weight from 1-50,000 pounds and dimensions vary from quite small sculptures which are less than 3 inches tall to gigantic sculptures 30 feet tall. An ice sculpture made of 300 pounds, something like this one of clear ice could last 4-8 hours at room temperature (70 degrees), borrowing the elements did not consist of the wind or direct sunlight. That’s kindda of crazy when you consider the artist invested 30 hours of his time to create this lovely piece.

This week’s questions will continue in-line with the letter “I”, as in “Ice”
1. Which do you prefer in your drinks, ice cubes or ice chips? Usually, I prefer neither in my drinks. On the rare occasion I do indulge in ice, then I overall prefer ice cubes to chips.
2. Do you like Italian ice, Hawaiian shaved ice or snow cones? It’s been too long since I’ve had any of these to make draw a good conclusion, but the best of my memory it seems Hawaiian shaved ice and snow cones were sweeter in taste than Italian ice. If that’s correct, then the Italian ice would be my least favorite. Not that I would turn it down, no I wouldn’t. I definitely would enjoy eating it, especially if it were premium quality. This is actually interesting because my soon-to-be son-in-law’s dad had an Italian ice business here in town before his death. I have it on good authority, my daughter’s, that it’s some good stuff.

What a find art of Ice Modern Sculptures. Really impressed with the work. But i would say art like this really difficult to maintain.
These are just incredible ice sculptures. There is a school here that teaches ice carving. I’ve often wondered if they let people observe.
Ice art always reminds me of chalk art. So transient that it’s beauty seems even more incredible.

#1 Often, I have no ice. Usually it’s cubes, although sometimes in the Summer I like chips.

I love seeing ice sculptures. For all the big holidays the club where hubby’s grandma lives always has a big buffet… and the center piece is always some type of ice sculpture. My favorite is the bunny at Easter brunch!!!
And i love Italian ice… it’s delicious.

I am always amazed with all the ice sculptures, they are just so artistic!
1) I prefer to have ice chips in my drinks. They are the best, and now, I am even addicted to eating them all day.
2) Never had Hawaiin Ice, but love shaved ice, we even bought a machine for the boys at home, so that tells you how much we like it. You can mix it with different flavors. I have a done a post on it Blue Berry and Blue Shave Ice on Self Sagacity.com.

That train is amazing. I’ve seen a lot of ice sculptures but nothing quite like that one.
About the only time I want ice in a drink is in the summer when it’s really hot. Then I like ice cubes because they don’t melt as fast as the chips.
My preference is Italian ice because it isn’t quite so sweet.
and because I don’t know what Ice chips are, I’m imagining you all putting potato chips in your drinks. Loved the stag image!

Cool ice sculptures! I personally like ice cubes in my drink but I like the chips too….lol. Guess I’m on the fence. I just like my drinks cold.
I also think I’d go with a good ole snow cone.
These are some pretty amazing ice sculptures! I always remember the neat ones that my cruise to Mexico had in the dining room. They were pretty neat, too.

Beautiful ! I love ice sculptures, we have one exposition per year here in Belgium too. Only this time I haven’t been there because the theme was “Disney” !
I’ve seen ice sculptures in the past but none like these. They are spectacular and I love that train.
1. I prefer shaved ice in my drinks though either will do.
2. I love snow cones. In grammar school we used to have snow cone days which was a real treat. Haven’t had one though, in decades

Hi Cathy ~~ at first when I saw your train I thought it was made from snow, the snow you guys got in November. Thank you, they are all sooooo pretty.
We missed your snow but did pass through in the rain for our ‘first’ Knoxville visit before it on our way to Charlotte, N.C. and then back again after the snow (we live near Houston, TX).
1. I like best what my sister calls ‘real ice’ that is like what MacDonalds. They are about crunching size most of their unmelted life time.
2. I haven’t had any of that exotic ice you mentioned. One of my grandsons had a tacorena for a bit and he sold shaved ice slushies. He had a shaved ice machine but I don’t know what style(s) it produced.

I love Hawaiian shave ice. When I was there this summer, I really became a fan. Those ice and snow sculptures are amazing and to think that the artist do it knowing that it will only last a little while.
