I Come To The Garden Alone

Going to Sunday School was one of those quiet reflective times I looked forward to as a kid. I knew no matter what troubled me, I would find peace once inside the Almighty’s house.

Attending church meant more to me than hearing a sermon, which could go either way electrifying or bone dry, but the one part of the service which always ministered to my soul was the music. I loved singing in church, as part of the congregation or in the choir. The soothing gospel lyrics accompanied with a melody lifted my spirit.

One such favorite was….

I Come To The Garden Alone Lyrics

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The son of God discloses.

And He walks with me and He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.

He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet that the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

And He walks with me and He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.

I’d stay in the garden with Him
‘Tho the night around me be falling
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling

And He walks with me and He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.

Now here it is to music…

If you’re feeling troubled, then this music surely will give you sense that Jesus is near like it has me on so many occasions. What joys or prayer needs would you like to share this Sunday?

May the blessings of the Lord be upon you. God bless!

  1. Hi Cathy, I love this post. I can tell how much you enjoy your church… That is awesome. Being in a community of Christians is very special–and I wish more people would ‘feel’ and experience that love of Christ.

Yes, we are fellow Tennesseans… I am in Fairfield Glade (north of Crossville)…

That hymn you talked about was always one of my Mom’s very favorite hymns… It brings back so many great memories to me.
    Hugs,
    Betsy
