How autumn sounds to me through mewsic #RMF

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

This month’s new-comer honorary co-hostess, 🎶Robin from Songbird’s Crazy World🎶 did a songsational job and to finish out October here is her last theme Songs of the season.  You can celebrate Halloween, or autumn, or both.   Are you ready to dance?

Flightless Bird, American Mouth by Iron & Wine is one I’ve shared on the dance floor in the past but when I think of autumn I think of birds flying south. I picked several songs with ‘autumn’ in the title Autumn Song by Manic Street Preachers, Autumn’s Not That Cold by Flashback, Autumn Change by September, and Forever Autumn by Lake of Tears. This season brings weather changes as indicated with these song tracks: Northern Wind by City & Colour and Colder Weather Zac Brown Band.  Bloom by The Paper Kites really doesn’t say anything about the change of season other than it casts a lazy mellow mood I often equate with autumn.

October screams autumn’s presence, especially as the month winds down as it is now. Our colors are just beginning to peak here in the Tennessee Valley with Halloween a matter of days away which draws my mind to include a few songs for those who love to celebrate the season with The Boogie Monster (Gnarls Barkley), Ghost In This House (Alison Krauss), & Love Song For A Vampire (Annie Lennox).

While I compiled my unique autumn theme playlist, I stumbled on YTer Lindsey Holiday’s Vintage Autumn songs playlist.

Please readthis is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

It’s now time to join the 4M dance party!

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, shoot me an email or leave me a comment saying ‘YES, sign me up!’ and I’ll secure the next available month for you then send you the details. 😉

All month-long, I’ve joined in with Mary from Jingle Jangle Jungle in her 2nd Rocktober Music Fest.  In keeping with my general theme, here’s a 70s rock song by The Edgar Winter Group, Autumn (1972).

Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.  Join me tomorrow for another edition of Rocktober Mewsic Fest!

  1. That taco kitty is ADORABLE! 🙂 Thanks for the introduction to some new (to me) tunes. The one I was familiar with was Zac Brown Band (of course!) and all your songs are awesome representations of Autumn, my favorite time of year! 🙂 Thanks for the dance – hope you’re having a marvelous weekend!

    1. Stacy,

I’m glad you came by to boogie with me, my dear. I never know who’s know what about the artists I share but I definitely knew Zac Brown Band wasn’t new to you. 🙂 Autumn is my favorite time of the year, especially after a hot summer. Christmas, I’m looking forward to it but Winter, I’m not looking forward to it! I can’t believe how they are airing Christmas commercials right now. That’s just crazy!

  2. I am unfamiliar with all of these songs, although I knew several of the singer/groups. My favorite was the Edgar Winter Group “Autum” although I also liked the very first song. “Autumn” was a lovely video, too.

  3. Great Autumn songs but where are the spooky songs that I love? Since you are so into Halloween, you need to go on one of my ghost tours if you’re ever in Memphis. That’s right. I’m a tour guide for ghost tours. Give Michael Myers a hug for me! 🙂

    1. Joyce,

I decided to dispense with the scary songs since I did that last year but I was certain others would include Halloween tunes in their playset and I was right. How cool you give ghost tour guides! I bet that’s a lot of fun. I’m sorry but I’m not going to give Michael Myers a hug looking all creepy. I’ll just keep my distance or just walk away like that little girl. She’s a smart cookie!

  4. Awww on the kitty. That’s not a taco at all. So cute.

Flightless Bird is a beautiful song.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

  5. I love all your selections for both ‘hops this week! I can’t believe we’re already at the end of October. It’ll be next year before we know it.

  6. Happy Sunday, Cathy! The little taco kitten is too cute! We’ve got colorful leaves everywhere, finally. We’re going to Blue Ridge for Halloween and should see color up there, as well. I enjoyed your autumn sounds song set and just in time for the feel of the season!

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I’d like to smooch that cute little taco kitten!

I enjoyed your “sounds of the season” song set. (Won’t be long before the seasonal sounds we hear will be Christmas carols.) This is my first exposure to every artist in this post with the exception of bluegrass singer and musician Alison Krauss, Annie Lennox and Edgar Winter Group. FYI – Alison’s “Ghost” video is marked “Unavailable.” I noticed that most of the songs about autumn have a subdued, reflective, even somber tone, reminding us that the good times of summer have come to an end for another year and that people and wildlife must now brace for the coming winter. I was especially intrigued by Carolina singer/songwriter and musician Sam Beam who released an EP on iTunes as Iron & Wine. “Flightless Bird” is a beautiful song, but the words got me “curious as a Cathy” and made me wonder what it was actually about. I found the lyrics and agree with the person who wrote the following comment on the SongMeanings website:

<< IMO, there are dual, yet similar, themes running through this song: (1) an individual’s loss of innocence/idealism; and (2) the degradation/dissolution of the mythical “American” dream. >>

The Autumn song by Manic Street Preachers is probably my favorite in this batch because I like the alternative rock style of the recording – just hard enough to please my rocker sensibilities.

I hope you and DH are having a super weekend, dear friend Cathy. Have a wonderful week ahead!
