Purrs and howdys, Kittens & Dawgs! Last Friday, we returned to Nashville for the day. When I think of Tennessee’s capital city, I think about a big part of my childhood days spend in front of the TV watching the popular show Hee Haw. Today’s Friday Sillies edition I thought I’d reminisce a bit with some of these giggles and hopefully bring a smile to your face.
For all you photo enthusiasts and Skywatch Friday fans, I’m sharing an iPhone8 capture from the end of last month on a gorgeous blue sky day in Nashville, Tennessee. There is just a hint of autumn color in the tops of the trees in the foreground of the Grand Ole Opry.
What are you celebrating?
Today, I Celebrate The Small Things like having a solid relationship with DH. I found out this week that some dear friends who I never thought this would happen to are divorcing. They are wonderful people and I hate this like crazy. I don’t know the situation and the details aren’t important but we hope to continue being friends with each one regardless. No judgment here just love and prayers.
This has been one of those weeks where I know I have more reason to celebrate but because of things going on around us then it’s hard to cut through the fog to notice these blessings and giving thanks for all the small things. That being said, I am truly blessed and am thankful for God’s goodness because without Him I don’t know how I’d make it through each day.
Might I impose on y’all one more time to say a special prayers our children? Something new with DD#1 happened this week, then as you may know DD#2 is moving to Portland Maine on Nov. 1st without housing or job. Her husband’s employer (Carmax) is opening soon up there and he’s been transferred to there. No company provisions are being made for their living arrangement or move. They set up a GoFundMe account hopefully to offset some of their expenses. It never hurts to ask for help. Blessings to each of you!
Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!
- If I was a ghost, I would haunt the meanest, wickedest people.
- I always push circumstances from my thoughts when something looks or sounds bad because giving a place in my mind for these things is exhausting emotionally and physically and leads to sickness.
- My favourite scary story is …hmmm, I don’t know. I don’t believe I have a favorite.
- I will be so glad when the clouds hanging over those I love dissipate and sunny blue skies return which in turns make my life happier, too.
That’s a wrap for now but I hope to see you on the dance floor with songs about cars or trucks on Mondays Mewsic Moves Me!

Sorry about your friends divorce. You’re right, sometimes you never think a couple will divorce and then they do.
It’s a shame that your kids are moving to Maine but no provisions for the move. That doesn’t seem quite right.

Thanks for the return visit. Yep, you never know truly what’s going on in another person’s life. It’s funny DH picked up on some oddities but I refused to see it and now looking back it makes more sense. It almost feels like a death because I think this chapter in our lives is a dead end, meaning I don’t think these friends will want to stay friends with us because they are no longer a couple, you know? It shouldn’t be this way but I’m afraid it will. I hope I’m wrong. We really like the both of them a lot! My heart is heavy for them. I know it’s gotta be painful for them despite the circumstances of one wanting it more than the other because deep down I know you can’t turn off feelings like a flip of a switch.
A move without compensation doesn’t seem right but then I’ve heard of many companies who do not. Plus, this is where they want to be and this just gives them ends to a means to get where they want. Hopefully, the struggle (financial) won’t be tough on them.
I have a bit of a soft spot for Hee Haw and used to watch it regularly. When I was working with my parents in our juggling act we would sometimes work on the same bill as many of the Hee Haw shows. We worked a few shows with Minnie Pearl and she was such a sweet lady. Worked quite a number shows with Archie Campbell who would be hired as the emcee and comedian. He seemed to be a pretty cool guy though I never knew what to say to him, but my father got along with him quite well.
A lot of good fun memories for me connected with that country version of Laugh In.

That’s so neat that y’all were billed with some of the acts of “Hee Haw” and to learn that these folks are nice. I think entertainers from these old programs are humble delighted people. Our experience with meeting some of the old actors from the Andy Griffin show was like yours. Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou) was nice as can be and was honored to have the fans come meet her. There was nothing pretentious about her. She was a genuine sweetheart!
Oh Hee Haw..I’m sorry to say I was never a fan although my uncle was. I will send prayers to your family and they will be aok! One of my favourite ghost stories was one experienced by my dad. He was out west in a blizzard trying to find his way back to the logging camp. He was lost with his trusted dog. He found a cement building that was very small, but he opened the door and found nothing inside but a solid cement “table” in the center. It provided shelter so he closed the door and he and his dog hunkered down for the night. He woke up with a light shining through a small slit that was a window. He got up and looked through and saw people, all in black, walking all in a line holding lanterns. He looked around and his blood ran cold. He looked at the “table” he slept on and walked towards it. He realized there was a slab on top and he pushed it aside to revel the body of a dead girl. The people outside were mourners coming to say their goodbyes which is what he did and got the hell out of there with his trusting dog. He never forgot that he slept on top of the body of a dead girl lying inside that “table”.

Oh…your dad’s story is really creepy. Did you share this in a post once? It almost sounds familiar. If not, then you really ought to write a post retelling your dad’s encounter. This is the kind of creepy stuff ghost stories are made of! Boo!

Your kids are in my prayers. I am so sorry his job threw this at them like this. How come they aren’t helping them get moved, since they are requiring it?

Thanks for the prayers. I’m not sure why DSIl’s employer isn’t contributing something to off-set the moving expense. I can only speculate that it’s a company policy to not help but there are lots of businesses that will not offer moving assistance. I’m sure they will land on their feet but it’ll be a hard one. This is where they want to be, as they took the initiative requesting the transfer.
You’re welcome, Cathy. I guess employers helping is a thing of the past. Would it have been a different scenario if your SIL’s employer had been the one requesting that he transfer vs your SIL requesting the transfer?
In any case, I hope they enjoy their new life in their new area and that they bounce back pretty quickly. It will be an adventure.

I remember watching Hee Haw, it was a truly funny show. I missed shows like that.

I think most of us who grew up with these sorts of shows miss the wholesome, family fun that provided us with lots of laughter and good entertainment. If networks ran these old shows as reruns then it would definitely boost their ratings because not only do we like these shows but the younger generations usually love them, too!
I loved “Hee Haw,” and everyone in my family hated it. I still managed to see a lot of the episodes until CBS had their “Country Purge.”

“Hee Haw” was popular with many in rural southern WV. It warms my heart thinking about this good ole show. In grade 9 our class put on a “Hee-Haw” production for the entire school. It was a lot of fun to do, too! I’m glad that you are a fan of such a Nashville icon!
A friend of mine and I did the Archie Campbell “Where, Where are you tonight?” song for a show when I was in eighth grade. A lot of us were Hee Haw fans. The show had some tremendous performers: Buck Owens was one of the guys who came up with the “Bakersfield Sound,” Roy Clark can play a bunch of instruments, Grandpa Jones and Stringbean were excellent banjo players as well as comedians, etc. etc.

There was a lot of talent on that show. It was a lot of wholesome, fun entertainment that always left you smiling.
That is not very nice of the company to make someone move and not help with that. I will be praying that all goes well for them.

Nope, it’s not nice when a company doesn’t help with a move and to insist its employees leave sooner than expected but this is what DD#2 and her husband wanted when they learned of the opening in Portland. While immediate help isn’t forthcoming, I think they can use this move on their tax return. I’m not sure how much that will help but hopefully, it will come. It’s not always easy to push away the bad but once I get to that point then God’s peace engulfs me.
I am curious about your #2 answer. I am not sure what you mean, though I think I do. Your #4 is a wonderful one. That was one motivating factor is starting Sparks. I wanted to help lift others. Hugs, my friend. And prayers!

Basically, I don’t dwell on bad stuff because it CAN lead to a deep moodiness which I find hard to shake causing me to lose interest in things I enjoy, sleepless nights, premature aging, and serious stomach problems. If I recgonize I’m heading down a path of worry I stop and release all my burdens on the Lord. It doesn’t magically go away but I’m usually filled with peace. Things out of my control are in God’s hands always and that’s where I find its best to leave them. I’ve tried to adopt the quote “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” to my life.
