Heart of Glass BOTB Winner

mewsic moves me Monday music

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! Last Monday, I asked y’all to vote in Heart of Glass cover #BoTB showdown between rival artists Old School Freight Train VS. Nouvelle Vague.  In this battle, OSFT lived up too its name in more than one way. The dragging tempo being the worse offender and then the nail of death the 2-minute longer version nearly making it a shut out win for the opponent; most people commented that OSFT’s rendition was a bit depressing with the sluggish rhythm, too. Oddly enough, I liked Old School Freight Train and gave them my vote, but even with my tally Nouvelle Vague won by a landslide 12 to 5 victory.

Congratulations to Nouvelle Vague!

Now, listen to their full album entitled 3!

I invite you to visit Stephen the official BoTB list keeper to see how the other showdowns in this round went and don’t forget another round is coming your way on September 1st, so mark your calendar to get in on the fun. Meanwhile, my mewsic linkup isn’t doing so well, so I’m doing away with it and am hopping over to join the ?Monday’s Music Moves Me? crew. This week’s theme: songs that inspire. You’re invited to tag along. Have a tunetastic week!

Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston do a lovely duet of When You Believe, too.

What mewsic inspires you?

  1. I like their name and she does have a breathy voice.
    Fascinating.

Thanks for dancing. Sorry I”m late Cathy. So much happening here.

  2. I wasn’t expecting the win to be such a landslide, but I was expecting the win! (and I accidentally typed ‘win’ as ‘wine’…heh!!) I think for me, the sluggishness was that it was recorded a beat too slow – after years of helping the hubby mix music, I pick up on things like that. In order to listen to it, I had to go to YouTube and select the option to speed it up…I know, I’m bad! 🙂 That being said, though, I think that Mary B. hit the nail on the head – being so familiar with the Blondie version, anyone doing a cover of that will no doubt always fall short. 🙂

Great tune selection for today, Cathy! Very inspirational! thanks for being a large part of the 6 years of fun and music! You’ve been a delight to dance with all these years! 🙂

Wake Me Up because i’m Unstoppable i’m gonna Stompa because i Can’t Stop This Feeling!

    1. Stacy, it’s hard for anyone to do a cover of a great song. Nouvelle Vague came the closest in matching Blondie’s style. That’s why they had such a heavy vote count. I’ll be boogieing by your place in a few. Thanks for the dance!

    1. Steve, Nouvella Vague is a French band. They were new-to-me when I came across them for my last round of BoTB. When You Believe is a very nice song. I’m glad you like it,too. I’ll hop over to listen to your music soon.

  3. I love that song “When you Believe” by Mariah & Whitney, but it was a battle of the voices on that stage. This one is the true meaning of the song. Thanks for sharing my friend.

  4. Hi, Cathy!

This outcome does not surprise me. If I have to choose between a piece of work that makes me feel sad and one that lifts me up and puts a smile on my face, I usually pick the latter.

Thanks for introducing Nouvelle Vague, dear friend Cathy, and have a great week!

    1. Tom, the outcome doesn’t surprise me now, but I didn’t see it comin’ when I put it together. lol Thanks for popping over. I’ll swing over for a visit in just a bit!

  5. I had a hunch Nouvelle Vague would run away with it! I’m surprised this song was covered by anyone else, though. It’s so very “Blondie”

    1. Debbie, Well, I thought Nouvelle Vague would be hard to beat because their version sounded closer to the original, but to steal by such a large margin?! I didn’t see that comin’ when I planned it. Oh well, it was an interesting battle. See ya in a sec!

  6. Congrats to the Nouvelle Vagues! I’ve always loved Heart of Glass by Blondie, and I think that may have been why the choice was so difficult to make. Sometimes it’s hard to break free from a great song. Looking forward to your next battle!

    1. Mary, you’re probably right. I have a hard time going away from a great original song that has a different twist. You just have to be in the right frame of mind to accept the difference. Thanks for stopping by. I’m heading your way now.

  7. I didn’t find OSFT to be at all depressing or draggy–not in a bad way. To me it was ethereally real, spacey, and relaxing. But it was a good contest nonetheless.

    1. Lee, there were some who thought OSFT was depressing with their cover. Your take on it is sorta the way I felt, too. It was a gamble using the slow rendition, but I had no idea it would do this poorly. Thanks for visiting this morning. I’ll be by to see how your battle outcome went soon.
