Happy Birthday, Elvis Presley! 🎂

Posted on January 8, 2019
Want more laughs? Visit Sandee for Tuesday Fun!

Yesterday, we honored the 84th anniversary of the King of Rock n Roll’s birthday on the 4M dance floor and today I wanted to continue the celebration on a lighter side by sharing some laughs and tidbits on the King.

How did Elvis earn his nickname?

Elvis was initially called the “Atomic powered singer” in the early-mid 1950s. However once Elvis (in 1956) became the greatest album, and 45 single, recording artist of all time he was dubbed “the king of rock and roll”.  source: Quora

Did EP write his own songs?

No. Not in the sense that he sat down with a guitar and wrote an original composition which nobody had heard before. He was never a songwriter. He received songwriting credit on a few songs but they were all tracks that he was given co-writing credit on as part of a deal struck by his manager. source: Quora

Did you know Elvis was a germaphobe?  According to Priscilla…

…he used to sip his glasses from the part above the handle, knowing that no one before would’ve drank from that part of the glass. source: History101.com

I don’t know if that makes him a germaphobe but cautious, yes definitely.

If you’re interested in reading more interesting tidbits about EP then you may want to check out 30 Facts about Elvis.

I’m linking up taking a coffee break for some with Random Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked and joining Eugenia at BrewNSpew for Tuesday Chatter this morning and you’re invited to come with and let me remind you to visit again tomorrow for not-so Wordless Wednesday.

Wow! I love learning more things about Elvis! My uncle is a HUGE Elvis fan – so much so, I’m sure that’s what influenced me to name my first dog Elvis (well, first dog that wasn’t a family dog, my own after I moved out from my parents’ house) he was the BEST dog ever! One day I’ll have another Elvis. 🙂 Loved your Elvis funnies, too! 🙂 Have a great week, my friend! 🙂

After all these years, I can still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the night I heard of Elvis’ passing. He truly was the King and even generations born after he passed love him.

      Alana,

I think the only reason I remember is that was the first time I felt some-what shooked by such mews.

      Ellen,

I think if Elvis were alive, he’d like these cartoons, too. I’m a fan of the oldie mewsic but not necessarily one particular group or person. It was a fun era but before my time.

I liked Elvis but did not go ga-ga over him. With that said, Elvis will always by the king or rock and roll and Michael Jackson will always be the king of pop, IMO. Have a great week, Cathy!

Yep, Elvis will always be the “King of Rock n Roll” and MJ the “King of POP”. Long live the mewsic Kings!!

My mother loved Elvis. He was okay, but mom was totally ga-ga over him. My sister and I used to wonder what dad thought about it.

I linked this post to Happy Tuesday.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love you. ♥

      Sandee,

I always liked Elvis but I never was crazy over him like so many young girls. I thought it was neat watching his old movies. I’m not sure why but I liked them. 🙂 Thanks for linking me up today. I meant to do it earlier but I got side tracked doing things for DH. Happy Tuesday! 😉

I think it was generational for me. If my mother had the hots for him it didn’t seem right that I would too. Happy Tuesday to you too, Cathy. 🙂

          Sandee,

I remember my mom liking Tom Jones when I was a kid and I thought that was so weird. It seemed strange, you know? I mean a mom isn’t supposed to like other men, just the Daddy, right? Well…that was one little girl’s view of things. lol

Elvis the pelvis….he was a nice guy but a strange one and dealt with many issues. He really believed he was helping Nixon in trying to stop the drug trade not even realizing that all the meds he was on was another drug addiction. he died too young. I loved this Andy Kaufman segment. Andy was another strange character with his own demons but he died way too young. I remember when Elvis died…it was a shocker and another great singer, Bing Crosby died a couple of months later but at least he died loving what he did…he died on a golf course at the 18th hole.

      Birgit,

Hmm, I don’t remember Bing dying the same year as Elvis. I wonder why not? Aging plays tricks on the brain. 🙂 I loved Andy Kaufman on the TV sitcom, Taxi. That was a good 70s show. I reckon we all are a little odd in some way and some more than others. Thanks for visiting!

    Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for remembering Elvis Presley on what would have been his 84th birthday. Do you know anyone who will be making a pilgrimage to Graceland today? I enjoyed these tidbits about The King along with the funny cartoons. The highlight of the post was the clip of Andy Kaufman doing his classic imitation of Elvis on the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Andy was the real deal, a comic genius, a multi-talented entertainer, and a better Elvis impersonator than most. Had he lived, Andy would be turning age 70 next Thursday. Sadly he took ill with a rare form of cancer and died young at the age of 34. I am “all shook up” to realize that it will soon be 35 years since Andy’s untimely death. Like Elvis, Andy’s legend lives on.

Happy birthday in heaven to Elvis Presley, and thank you very much for the mewsic and memories this morning, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

No, I don’t know anyone who visited Graceland on Elvis’ birthday. It would be neat to tour his home, though. We have yet to visit Memphis. Perhaps, we’ll make it one day across the state to see many of the landmarks, including Elvis’ home. I didn’t know the anniversary of Andy Kaufman’s birthday is next week. I don’t recall if I ever saw him before now doing his Elvis impression but like you, I think he’s better than most impersonators. Is Kaufman really singing or lipsynching? He certainly has the moves like Elvis. I’m glad that I found this little video gem. Thanks for visiting, my friend.

        Hi again, Cathy!

That was actually Andy doing the singing on The Tonight Show. He was able to do character voices and impersonations quite well.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, dear friend!

          Myke,

That’s half-way between Memphis and Nashville, right? We’ve been to Nashville a few times. That’s one crazy town. The traffic is always horrible. Unfortunately, the city didn’t do a good job planning or developing the road system to support the overload. The drivers are a bit fruity but that’s just about normal anywhere anymore. 🙂
