Hall & Oates #music #AprilA2Z #halloates

Posted on April 9, 2015

I interrupt the regular program post to bring you this special announcement…. I preëmpt all routine posts to bring you my contributions to this month’s largest blogging event. Don’t worry, normal posting will resume next month like clockwork (I hope). Meanwhile, I invite you to stick around to enjoy the #AprilA2Z fun!

The American rock duo from the City of Brotherly Love wrote/performed some of the today’s classic hits from the late 70s to the mid-80s era.

In my opinion, this is one of the best early years’ photos of the duo,

1976 Top 10 hit Sara Smile gave me my first taste of Hall & Oats and it made me hungry for more ever since. Get to your feet and shimmy your hips to some of their greatest hits!

Hall & Oates’ filled our marriage in the early years and when I hear one of their hits I get a warm feeling thinking about our sweet beginning. What do you think of when you hear a Hall & Oates classic?

Did you know?

  • Billboard magazine named Hall & Oates the most successful twosome in the rock era since The Everly Brothers.
  • Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003.
  • What some consider the pentacle of a musician’s career, Hall & Oates became the newest inductee to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

I walked into a middle school class once when the teacher (who’s older than me) had on Hall & Oates. And stumped the kiddos with who was playing in the background. I stood by as the kids tried to guess, to no avail. Then he let me let them in on who it was. Priceless.

Our kids grew up listening to music to wide range of music. It always surprised adults that they met in stores that they were familiar with the oldies (60s, 70s, & 80s) stuff and occasionally older tunes done by Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, etc. One time, when our girls (early to mid teens) were in Walmart around Christmas one year, they were checking out the CDs and a young girl said, “I’m looking for Christmas music. What do you recommend?” Our oldest said, “Andy Williams and Bing Crosby are great!” The girl gave my daughter that deer in the headlights stare and the mother nearly fainted in disbelief. Another time, I remember our 14-year son befriended a young girl through Facebook and formed an online courtship. They would talk on the phone often. The girl’s grandmother was convinced that he was a 30-year old pervert because he knew so much about music. I nearly died laughing, but I certainly understand her concerns. You have to be a little skeptical to keep kids safe these days. It’s funny to get someone’s reaction on old sounds sometimes.

I never really got into Hall & Oates. I was floating about in the North Sea in the early eighties and discovered Tom Waits music. Then some mad bloke in a car tried to zap me and my family so for a while other stuff took priority and I cant remember what music I did listen too after that for a time.

“Sara Smile,” “Private Eyes,” “One on One,” “Kiss On My List,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” “Maneater”… Hell, I just like Hall & Oates. Brings me back to the mid- to late-70’s, early 80’s. For some reason they got a lot of airplay on “lite rawk” and “yacht rawk” stations. Just great stuff…

I saw Hall and Oates in the mid 1980s outdoors. One of the best concerts I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a lot of shows.

Oh, man! That sounds sooo cool! I really love ’em! Many of the late 70s to mid 80s groups totally blow the doors off today’s bands.

I can’t go for that (no can do) is probably my favourite. The anthem at the end of my teens/ early twenties, when the world was full of possibilities and no responsibilities. Sigh. Now, I must dig that Greatest Hits CD out and wallow in some nostalgia.

Nothing brings out the nostalgia in me, like me does! If you can’t find your CD, then download it from iTunes. That’s what I did.
