Girl From Knoxville spending time in My Tennessee Mountain Home

Posted on June 19, 2017

There won’t be any summer vacations for this Girl From Knoxville but I’m happy spending time in My Tennessee Mountain Home.

Thank you for including me in your Monday, kittens & dawgs! The M4 (borrowed from John at The Sound of One Hand Typing) gang XmasDolly, Stacy, Colette , and I welcome you to the best dance party in Blogosphere!

This week’s spotlight dancer is my good pal, Mary, Mary quite contraire aka Jingle, Jangle, Jungle and she came up with our  fun theme, “Summer is a time for vacationing, so how about songs that have locations in their titles”. Congrats, my friend! It’s time to hit the dance floor, so grab a partner and have some fun.

Linky Tools subscription expired. List not available.

Although we aren’t taking a formal summer vacation doesn’t mean we won’t be doing anything because there is plenty to do in Tennessee! I’ll leave you my YouTube Tennessee Songs playlist to enjoy.

I hope all the dads out there had a grand Father’s Day. You do so much and often get the short end of the straw with the kids. I applaud you!

One more thing, before you shimmy off, I’d like to ask you to vote in my A Father’s Day Tribute #BoTB Showdown. That’s it for now, have a summertasticday!

It’s been so long since I’ve been in Tennessee (2006) and I almost went back for the Great American eclipse – but decided to go to South Carolina instead (closer). I do want to go back, one day, though – there is so much to see and it is such a beautiful state.

Alana, I hope you do get a chance to visit Tennessee again. The Smoky’s are a favorite of many!

Nice to hear another tune from Dave Loggins. The only one I had heard was “Please Come to Boston.”

Dolly Parton is just good people. I love her.

John, I forgot about “Please Come to Boston”. I always liked that tune of his, too. Oh yeah, Dolly Parton is good people! I love how she’s done so much for the Smoky Mountain community and her hometown, Sevierville. What a heart of gold of such a sweet gal!

No need to leave on a vacation when you live in one of the nation’s great vacation spots. Wish I had more time than I will to spend in East Tennessee.

The very first thing that popped into my mind was “Grand Canyon Suite” by Ferde Grofé–not really a song, but a work of music. There are a ton of songs with place names in the title.

      Lee,

You’re so right, there’s no need to pack my bags for good time. We’re so blessed to live in a fabulous location with so much to see within a short distance. Usually, we burn up the road on DH’s day off spending hours revisiting the same ole spots and exploring parts of an area that we’ve never been, even places near home we’re finding new things sights even if it’s just a beautiful drive in the country. I hope you have a splendid time when you make it back this way, though. Take in some things you didn’t get to do last year! 🙂

Oh there are tons of song titles with locations mentioned. I was so surprised in my research. However, I don’t remember this song. Now, I’m gonna have to check it out. Thanks for stopping in for a visit. Have a good day!

Yay, Tennessee. It’s interesting how we can live in the same state yet be so far away.

    Hi, Cathy!

I enjoyed this heaping helping of songs about Tennessee. I haven’t heard anything from Dave Loggins since his 1974 hit (another song with a location in the title) “Please Come To Boston.” The highlight of your post for me was the video of the appearance by Johnny Rivers on American Bandstand circa June 1964 performing his first big hit, “Memphis,” a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Memphis, Tennessee” song also covered by Lonnie Mack as an instrumental. I never saw that Rivers clip before, and it was interesting to watch the interview with Dick Clark following the song in which Johnny revealed that he had been appearing as a featured performer at the Sunset Strip nightclub Whisky A Go-Go since it opened in January of that year and that his single “Memphis,” the most requested song at the club, was taken from a live album recorded there. It was exciting to see fresh faced Johnny at that early stage of his career and to know that he was on his way to major success as a singer, songwriter and producer.

Thank you again for the great mewsical selections, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

It was loads of fun coming up with tunes from my state. It was quite surprising. The vintage Dick Clar ABS clip is a jewel. I love stuff like this and Johnny Rivers voice is fabulous! Thanks for sharing a spot on the dance floor with me today. I’ll hop over to see you soon, my friend!

Hey Cathy! I decided to join you guys in the Monday Music Moves Me hop. This is cool.
Love your Tennessee songs! Is that where you’re from and where you live now? Tennessee is probably the most gorgeous state I’ve ever driven through. Simply beautiful! I remember when I moved to Texas from DC, I stopped off at Lookout Mountain (I think that’s around Knoxville) and it was stunning!
I love Dolly Parton. I saw her perform at the Austin AquaFest many years ago and she puts on an incredible show. She has such a special bond with the audience and she’s so relatable. Good song you featured here.

Have a good week, my friend!

      Michele,

Originally I’m from southern WV but have lived in Knoxville for 38 years now. This is home to me. Chattanooga is southwest of Knoxville about two hours. DH worked in Chattanooga for 10 years making the commute daily. We visited Lookout Mountain years ago and I wouldn’t mind going back again. Dolly Parton is a sweetheart, I think. I’ve never seen her in person but I just have a feeling she’s genuine. I’d love to meet her. I’m delighted you decided to hit the dance floor with the 4M gals and me. Just remember, you’re always welcome! Have a funtastic day!

      Marie,

Dolly Parton is such a sweetheart. I’d love to meet her someday! I have a sneaky suspension that she’s ever bit as nice as she appears on TV. Thanks for stopping in for an early morning boogie!
