The second month of the new year coming to a close, Kittens & Dawgs as this is the last week of February. The good mews is spring is drawer closer and if you’re like me then you’re more than ready for it.
I’m glad you stopped by to boogie this morning and hope that your weekend was relaxing. This is a no theme week, so it’s ‘your choice‘ song picks. Be prepared to go where the mewsic takes you, as my selections are totally random. Are you ready to groove to some mewsic?
Missing U released as a lead single last August from Swedish singer/songwriter Robyn’s album, Honey, and is her first solo in eight years. The song made the US Hot Dance chart at #18.
Limitless is from JLo’s romantic comedy film soundtrack, Second Act, (debuted in theaters this past Dec. 21st). Jennifer premiered the Sia-penned song on the American Music Awards last year, the single released the following month. No billboard chart info at this time.
This Time Around is taken from L.A. indie singer/songwriter, Jessica Pratt, 2019 Quiet Signs album. The song has a surreal melody that casts a mellow mood over the listener.
I’m not sure how I stumbled upon the Madeline Kenny song Bad Idea. According to one source they described as Kenny’s signature murky dreamscape style. It has a weird essence about it for sure and it’s from her sophomore album Perfect Shapes which incidentally is named from the feature track. The indie artist has a different resonance, unlike my usual mewsic preference.
When I’m With Him (Empress Of) released last August. It sounds a bit familiar but I’m not sure why. This song did make the cut for Billboard’s 100 Best Songs of 2018: Critics’ Picks at #72. Maybe, I heard it on the radio or on someone’s blog but the pop song has the potential of being a hit even though it hasn’t charted yet.
High Horse (Kacey Musgraves) is a song I definitely remember hearing and I believe it wasn’t too long ago that Stacy shared the tune on her blog. Musgrave hit the Top 100 at #21 last April with this ditty. Another Musgraves title, a less produced song I stumbled across that caught my ear is Somewhere Only We Know.
R&B singer/songwriter Kali Uchis debuted the mewsic industry in 2012. Feel Like A Foo is from her April 2018 album, Isolation. While the song hasn’t appeared on the charts it did make Billboard’s 50 Best Albums of 2018: Critics’ Picks at #16. I’m not sure what this means when an artist or a song that makes Billboard’s lists but I guess time will tell if it does well in commercial sales.
Please join XmasDolly (4M Brain Child) and my fellow 4M Co-hostesses Stacy, Alana, & Colette on the dance floor.
This is a MEWSIC ONLY linky party. All non-mewsic posts are subjected for removal or labeled – NO MEWSIC
Next time we meet, it’ll be a brand new month with a brand new honorary co-host. Patrick from Adventures in Weseland first theme choice is ‘‘How Mewsic Educates Us’‘. Get those thinking caps on and have fun with it! I’m boogieing over to see you soon. Have a sparkletastic day! 😉

Great song choices as usual, Cathy! Love the Foo Fighters, and of course Kacey Musgraves. 😉 The rest are new to me – and I enjoyed them very much as well! 🙂 Thanks for the dance, my friend! Hope you’re having a great weekend! 🙂
Love bunnies! Aren’t they sweet!
Hi Cathy; Spring can’t come soon enough! Our winter has been way worse than usual and it’s just dragging on and on…Good thing there’s plenty of music to cheer us up! 🙂 I know and enjoyed the Foo Fighters and J Lo. The rest were new to me, as well. Thanks for the interlude.
Debbie, I know you can’t wait. If I lived in Canada I’d go nuts…I mean nuttier. The squirrels would really flock around me, huh? lol Yes, most definitely we have lots of good mewsic to lift our spirits and to keep us boogieing to warm us all over. 🙂
Girlfriend, you must stop by Inspire me Monday… I noticed she just signed up… anyway listen to her tune… the whole thing. It’s not only inspiring, but it’s awesome. I really liked it. Just sayin….. it’s called, “Give me Faith”! Very nice… very pretty indeed!!!
Oh WOW! Thank you for the tunes & all the introductions. Love J-Lo… the video was awesome. Foo Fighters – February Stars just not my cup of tea… more like a tune I would play to fall asleep. Sorry! Jessica Pratt’s & Madeline Kenny song nope new tune again… High Horse (Kacey Musgraves) Nope never heard that one too & nope… don’t want to hear it again. Just not into that type of song. Feel Like A Fool & Kali Uchis I almost feel like getting up & dancin’ sexy…. not to worry I said ALMOST… hahahaha cute song! Oh my gosh, your last tune is phenomenal… Kali Uchis – After The Storm ft. Marie,
I’m glad my mewsic got you to your feet but don’t overdo it or your hubby will be mad at me not to mention the doctor. lol I visited, linked up, and left a comment on Inspire Me Monday. Ramona always shares beautiful uplifting contemporary Christian mewsic. Thanks for swaying those hips. I was boogieing all day with so much good mewsic!
Those are some cute bunnies! LOVE the FooFighters!
We love the FooFighters, CK and Somewhere only we know. Didn’t know this version, only Keane’s. I had a great dance. Now let’s take some nip and rock on♪♫♪ Pawkisses for a Happy Monday🐾😽💞
Love the Foo Fighters. Great song. Thanks for sharing it.
I hadn’t heard of any of these songs and just a few of the singers. I really need to start listening to music more. Thanks for the intros.
Mary,
I don’t listen to mewsic quite like I used to but it’s a great way to put the groove in your move.
Thanks for broadening my horizons with new-to-me songs!
Mimi,
Anytime, my dear!
February Stars is severely underrated. While it is not like most of their albums, I do find this one relaxing to listen to (and secretly it has been one of my favorites) the rest of the music here was pretty much new to me. Happy Monday!
Mary,
Foo Fighters is one of those bands I know very little about and while ‘February Stars’ sounds a bit familiar I’m not sure if hit my radar before now. It’s definitely a great song. Hmmm, I might have to listen to the album since it’s one of your favorites. Thanks for popping in for a dance!
Ooh, what an oldie but goodie from the Foos! The rest, of course, were new to me. That’s the good thing about all the different genres the good folks at the dance listen to…I always get introduced to some new music and reminded of some older tunes I hadn’t heard in a while. I can’t believe February Stars is 22 years old! It’s old enough to drink!
Kim,
WOW, I didn’t realize that February Stars is that old! Foo Fighters while I know them by name and I’ve listened to their mewsic on other blogs they are still kinda new to me. Thanks for dancing with me this week!
I like the Foo Fighters. Have a wonderful week! I am sitting out this week’s hop, I am doing a tutorial on catnip mats. XO
Ellen,
Okie dokie, dearie! Have fun with that tutorial and I’ll look forward to seeing pictures of your finished catnip mats. 🙂
We just got back from seeing Three Dog Night in Hiawassee. Seeya tomorrow. 🙂
Eugenia,
How cool! That’s interesting John shared a Three Dog Night song on Sunday Lyrics. 🙂
Maybe because I told him we were going! 🙂 He likes them too.
This was different (and nothing wrong with being taken out of a music comfort zone with different). My two favorites out of these are the J Lo song (hurray, J Lo – we both come from the Bronx) and Kacey Musgraves, a singer I hadn’t even heard of until a week or so ago. Is there such a thing as country disco? If so, she nails it. I really am liking her. “Bad Idea” was possibly the most unusual video I’ve seen in a long time; made me think. And the Foo Fighters – have to admit this will not be on my top 10 of them although it did perk up a little at the end. Thank you for the Sunday dance, Cathy, and have a great week!
Alana,
I love looking for new-to-me tunes to share. The research is a wonderful education and it provides some good listening. Thanks for joining me and I’m delighted you enjoyed my playlist.
Aw on the kissing bunnies. So precious. I linked you to Awww Mondays.
I love Missing U. Never heard that before.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a bunnytastic Awww Monday, Cathy. Hugs and love. ♥
Sandee,
So, glad you joined me on the dance floor and for taking a peek at my Awww Monday image.
i don’t recognize many of the songs – I’m outta touch, lol. Have a great week.
Sandy,
Don’t feel bad, I’m out of touch, too. lol That’s the beauty with being apart of this mewsic meme, I get quite the mewsical education. 🙂
Is it Monday already? Seems like it was just Saturday yesterday… 😆😝🤣
John,
LOL that’s funny! The weeks really evaporate, don’t they? How did y’all survive the heavy rains or were you not affected by the system? We got a lot of flash flooding around town. We’re still under flood warnings until 1:30 today. Our home is in a good place so we weren’t in danger. I don’t like seeing rivers swell. It reminds me too much of the flood in 1977 when I was a teenager. That was so scary! While my childhood home didn’t get much damage, the whole county was considered a disaster with Red Cross giving typhoid shots and other assistance. Talk about a mess!
There were flood warnings here, but we aren’t close enough to any of the creeks they were worried about. (The closest creek to us is about a mile away.) We get some water under the garage doors, but nothing too serious.
I think it’s nice that Procter & Gamble, who makes Tide detergent, has those portable washers and dryers that they drive into places that have had natural disasters (like tornadoes and floods) so people can do their laundry. Sometimes, after a disaster like that, it’s nice just to have clean clothes.
Those are some cute honey bunnies!
Brian,
Those bunnies are cute together, aren’t they? It makes me think of me and DH!
Hi, Cathy!
Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend!
The Foo Fighters are not new to me, but their song “February Stars” is. It has an unusual dreamlike quality. It’s nice to see Swedish artist Robyn making a comeback with another hit single on the U.S. Dance chart. Last year I watched all episodes of the Jennifer Lopez – Ray Liotta police drama Shades of Blue and enjoyed it. I appreciated the powerful sound and visual images in “Limitless” from the soundtrack of her movie Second Act which also stars Milo Ventimiglia from This Is Us. Based on the trailer, the film is funny but has a predictable, well worn plot. Critical reviews are mixed. Jessica Pratt’s “This Time Around” is another recording with a dreamlike quality and does indeed promote a mellow mood. Madeline Kenny offers yet another unusual and dreamlike song and video with “Bad Idea.” I like it a lot! Empress Of (LA artist Lorely Rodriguez) is another fascinating find. She handles mewsic styles that include dream pop, alt. R&B, synthpop. electronica and experimental. I enjoyed “When I’m with Him” from her second album Us. My favorites in this batch of songs by female artists are the last two – the Nashville country pop song and video “High Horse” by Kacey Musgraves, and “Feel Like A Fool” by new-to-me Colombian-American artist Kali Uchis, a sultry soul sister who lists Boomer era R&B greats Curtis Mayfield and Irma Thomas among her influences. Kali has a great vocal style and a very hot look, a combination that should enable her to go far. Here is one of her mewsic videos:
This was a very exciting and ear pleasing song set, Cathy. Thanks for the introductions and have a wonderful week!
Tom,
I’m happy you enjoyed my playset for the week. I often go back to listen to it again while I dig up tidbits about the artists or song. I do recall Kali’s song, “After the Storm”. Someone introduced it to me last year. Was it you by chance? You’re right, she the look to go far in the industry and her old school R&B sound is what the new generation needs. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, dear friend.
Hi again, Cathy!
No, I am not the person who introduced you to Kali. I never heard of her before. She’s an exciting artist!
Tom,
Okie Dokie, I figured you might have been the one. You’ve shared many new-to-me artists over the years and you have such a keen eye for today’s stars. 🙂
