Even More Hits from 1991

The theme this week is whatever music moves you for freedom of song choice week.

Welcome to the Sunday edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me. Tomorrow begins another a new month and on the dance floor we’re happy to have Patrick from Adventures in Weseland as honorary host for August. He gets the privilege to share with us his theme choices every other week but this Monday we’re boogieing to whatever music moves me. I’m strolling back in time listening to songs that somehow slipped past my ear in 1991 with these 15 Pop Chart Hits!

15 Pop Chart Hits from 1991

  1. Crazy ~Seal
  2. Here I Am (Come And Take Me) ~UB40
  3. Fading Like A Flower ~Roxette
  4. I’ve Been Thinking About You ~Londonbeat
  5. Just Another Dream ~Cathy Dennis
  6. Miles Away ~Winger
  7. The One And Only ~Chesney Hawkes
  8. Piece of My Heart ~Tara Kemp
  9. Place In This World ~Michael W. Smith
  10. Rhythm of My Heart ~Rod Stewart
  11. Silent Lucidity ~Queensryche
  12. Too Many Walls ~Cathy Dennis
  13. Touch Me (All Night Long) ~Cathy Dennis
  14. The Way You Do The Things You Do ~UB40
  15. You’re in Love ~Wilson Philips

I’m fairly sure most if not all of these songs didn’t hit my radar and some of the artists, like Cathy Dennis I absolutely do not remember whatsoever. In the early years of motherhood, I rarely listened to the radio for which I blame not remembering these songs. The good news is I’m finally catching up!

This is a music linky party.  Your co-hostess are StacyAlana, and Me.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

  1. I thought I didn’t know much about 1991 music and I was almost right. Your playlist (I had problems with a couple of the songs – Londonbeat’s said it wasn’t available in this country (?) but I found it elsewhere. UB40’s second song was plain “not available” but I found another copy of the video to listen to. Anyway, your list had two of my all time favorites, Rhythm of my Heart (any song with bagpipes is my favorite!) and Silent Lucidity. I enjoyed Londonbeat and Seal very much and Place in this World was such an inspirational song. I never knew UB40 had covered The Way You Do The Things You Do, either.

  2. Hola Darling

Lovely to hear Patrick will be the host for August.

Lovely musical picks and those seals are awwwwdorable. I once got kissed by a gorgeous one and that was the most unforgettable kiss of my life. ;-)))

As always your choice of music is point on. <3 <3

    Hugs and kisses xoxox

  3. Bummer because it qould not let me go beyond #3. The 4thbis not available and I can’t skip to the next one. I do remember most of these songs because I had no kids. At least you are xatcbing up. I will aim high but not like that man on the motorcycle…yikes!

  4. I’m surprised more these songs are not familiar to me. I guess the nineties just flew by too fast. Happy Monday and have a wonderful week ahead! 😘

  5. My playlists are usually ten, but since you’re going to do 15, maybe I should, too… Excellent playlist, by the way!

  6. Love the video. Never heard of him before. Beautiful.

Awww, love the kissing cutie pies. So precious.

I’ve got my thinking cap on for Marie and her blog issues. I think she needs to be back on WordPress and the free version. I think if she has the Classic Editor and Classic Widgets she will probably do fine. I think you control her WordPress blog.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a blessed Awww Monday and week, my friend. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Sandee,

It sounds like you have a good plan figured out for helping Marie. You’re the best! Thanks for helping her. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by my dear!

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Paw-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a good week and are enjoying your weekend.

Awww… I just wanna smooch those critters, but it looks like they’re busy and wouldn’t appreciate the interruption. I don’t feel like having my lip bit. 🙂

You stated that these hits from 1991 slipped past your ear that year. The same is true for me, because I wasn’t paying much attention to the charts by then, only to the extent that my job in MTV required it. That is to say, I stopped collecting new records at the end of 1989 and started focusing on the songs of the past. It wasn’t until a year ago that I started delving into the catalog of the Swedish pop duo Roxette and realizing how much I like their work. Their sound reminds me of ABBA and of Wilson Phillips. I well remember the color saturated house/dance pop video of Cathy Dennis singing her hit “Just Another Dream” because I redubbed it several times as our veejays wore it out responding to numerous viewer requests. Likewise with another of Cathy’s hits featured in this block – “Touch Me (All Night Long)” which to me seems like a blatant rip-off of Madonna. That’s not to say I don’t like the song and video. I do. I also remember “Miles Away” by the NY-based progressive glam metal band Winger, a popular play on our PM drive time show. The metal power ballad was also requested and played on our station’s weekend late night Headbangers Ball hard rock and heavy metal show. I enjoyed learning about teenage English popper Chesney Hawkes and his hit “The One And Only” from the OST of the 1991 British comedy drama movie Buddy’s Song. I don’t remember singer Tara Kemp, but I like her look and R&B style. “Piece Of My Heart” is a song she co-wrote, and therefore completely different from the one originally waxed by Aretha’s sister, Erma Franklin, and covered by Janis Joplin and her band Big Brother And The Holding Company. I read that Tara Kemp scored two major hits in a row in 1991 with “Hold You Tight” and “Piece Of My Heart,” but struggled with subsequent releases. To top it off, her record label went belly up, derailing her singing career. Your set concludes with Wilson Phillips, the girl trio that was riding high on the charts in 1990 and 1991.

I’ll be back tamale for your August first JB band battle as another month bites the dust. Have a lovely Sunday, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Our weekend was good. Thanks for asking, my friend. I hope yours was nice as well. It’s so interesting how artists from the 90s just went right over my head. There was some talent from that decade but it eluded my ears for years. I’m so thankful blogging has allowed me to go back to piece these missing parts of my life. It’s been such great fun to listen to these lost-to-me music jewels. I’m happy you enjoyed the set and appreciated reading what you shared about some of the songs. It’s always fun to read how a song moves a person or what comes to mind when they listen. You’re so good at doing this, too. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, dear friend!
