In the past four years my photo shoots have drastically dwindled. This is largely due to life happening more specifically medical crisis with DH’s retina detaching, surgeries, and countless follow-ups. The good news that’s behind us but still it’s been hard to get back into the groove, so I thought I’d go through my archives to find some missed jewels that didn’t speak to me then but do now.
This picture was one of my first after buying my big girl camera, Nikon D7000, at Clingmans Dome in the Smoky Mountains. The mood there is often dramatic and fast moving. Conditions can be quite different from the base of the mountain at the park entrance to the pinnacle. We weren’t quite there which is accessible a few feet away by taking half-mile paved and quite steep foot trail. We didn’t have time to hike it on this day, so I snapped a few pix from the parking lot, one of which included this one.
Last week, John shared a Wes Montgomery, an artist recently introduced to me by another good bloggy friend, song “Bumpin’ on Sunset” from Montgomery’s 1966 album, Tequila, which I really liked and I thought it would be a great idea to share it with you.
Incidentally, in case you missed it and would like to join the fun, I invite you to cast your vote in my latest Battle of the Band before the ballot box closes on Friday! Watch for more peeks through my treasure trove of photos in coming weeks. It’s not all bad plundering through old pictures. That wraps things up but hopefully I’ll find inspiration to join Thursday Art Date with Rain.
Thanks for joining me today and may you have a blessed day!

So sorry to hear about the medical crisis in the family, Cathy! I hope the DH is better and you are feeling better too. These trying times can be quite a drain on the energy but am so glad you decided to share this beautiful photo and linked up for our #ww linkup party! Sending you loads of positive vibes and plenty of sunshine.
Hugs,
Esha
Stunning photo, Cathy, and I’m you and DH are able to put some of life’s challenges behind you.
Dear Cathy,
I love all your pictures. I can imagine it’s been a bit of a roller coaster at your end. Retina detachment is a tough one. Hope DH is on the mend and things are getting better.
You take good care, while I groove a bit to your music. I need that pick me up too.
Much love <3
Natasha,
Thanks! Yeah, Mother Nature has lost her mind with these yo-yoing temps. What drives me nuts is how it’s mild but rainy through the week until Thursday or Friday then the conditions worsen.Ugh, I hate that! DH is doing better. We’re so thankful that he has his vision. Some folks aren’t so fortunate to say that under the same circumstances. God is truly good!
Yes, loads of gratitude to the universe for all it’s blessings. Stay well my friend.
Thanks Natasha!
Lovely photo! I haven’t been to Clingman’s Dome in years, but I recall that it is sometimes in the clouds and you can’t even get a clear photo.
Linda,
Yes, Clingmans Dome is often shrouded by clouds. It’s a beautiful place. We always talk about how we’d love to have a house in the parking lot, except it’s not a parking lot. 🙂 That would be a wonderful view to have each day but the weather is fast changing and it’s quite a bit colder there. That’s the only draw backs. Okay, maybe having wild animals cross my yard randomly might be a little scary. Other than that it’s the purrfect place for a home!
That is a wonderful capture! Have a great rest of your week. Thank you for sharing. HUGS
Anne,
I’m glad you enjoyed the view. Thanks for stopping by! 😉
Such a beautiful place, i hope i get to see it in person someday.
Mimi,
I hope you do, too!
Kinda felt like I was on the Bayou or something with the great music. Love your pic… Have a great day my dear Cat… hugs Love ya
Marie,
It’s funny how mewsic sets the brain. I can’t say that it made me feel like I was on the Bayou. I’m gonna have to listen to it again to see if I pick up the same vibe as you. Thanks for visiting, dear!
Your photo sure captured that wonderful scene!
A place I would love to explore. I’ve always enjoyed your photographs of these spectacular mountains.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥
Beautiful photo
Such a nice pic. Beautiful. Like the song also. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful day.
Oh yes, mountain weather can be quite changeable as you ascend. I’d totally have to be in the right mood for a steep climb.
Liz,
Yep, it sure can change fast but I love the mood! 🙂
That is a great shot! Thanks for hosting Wild Wednesday. Have a great day! XO
Ellen,
Thanks! I’m happy you decided to join up. 😉
What a nice capture Cathy nice and peaceful 🙂
Have a nighttastic week 🙂
Thanks, Steve!
Nice photo. My mom loves to take photos, and she says it relaxes her. During the day she will take a break from her work to go out and take photos of us to get her mind settled. Hope you find your photo groove again.
Right now, sketches does what photography does for your mom. 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
Why not dig through the archives? This is certainly one photo that deserves to be shared. What a moody photo. I haven’t been to the Smokies in years, and I’m past due.
Alana,
That’s exactly what I’m gonna do. 🙂 Isn’t it interesting how those shelved photos catch your eye? I’m happy you liked this photo share.
That is a lovely evening view.
Nancy,
It was a beautiful evening when we were at the Smoky’s and boy, am I looking forward to the return of pretty weather again!
Hi, Cathy!
I love the moody, dramatic image you snapped with your big girl camera at Clingmans Dome in the Great Smokys. With the dark, menacing sky the scene could be used as the illustration for a mystery short story or novel. To go along with the picture, you shared with us the ear pleasing instrumental “Bumpin’ on Sunset,” a tune recorded by jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery. This is my intro to Montgomery, a talented musician from Indianapolis who passed away more than 50 years ago at the peak of his popularity at the too-young age of 45.
Thank you for the morning inspiration, dear friend Cathy. Enjoy your day!
Tom,
Thanks for sharing a bit of Montgomery’s history with me this morning. He died sorta young, didn’t he? I’m delighted to know that you like my sky view and mewsic today. Have a good day, my friend!
