Do It or Else die Trying to Do Right #AtoZRoadTrip #music

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs!  DH shared an interesting article the other day, which pretty much resonats what Rush Limbaugh mentioned on his show where he states, “I’m on record as saying that exercise is not the way to lose weight, and all this preoccupation with it as a weight loss regimen is absurd.”

It kinda makes sense, you know? I’m not advocating abandoning your fitness routine (I’m not quitting) nor is Rush or the article because exercise does give many good health benefits. What it all boils down to is, you eat more calories than your body burns and that’s why we gain weight.

I fell victim to the in-between eating pitfall. Who hasn’t? I made excuses for it by saying, I’m going to workout a little longer today. Well, that’s the wrong approach. It takes about 30-minutes of cardio to burn 200 calories. How many times per/day do you eat snacks?  Think about that for a moment. Scary, right? I committed myself last week to to not have any snacks. I didn’t entirely, but the diet change along (I actually exercised less and ate normal foods) was enough to shed 2.5 pounds from last Sunday weight check. Coincidence? I don’t know, but it’s an exciting and surprising development.

This is a wake up call to rethink my diet. I’m not keeping a food journal nor am I counting calories. The thing I’m doing is making well-thought out choices in what, when, and how much I eat. I am determined to Do It or Else die Trying to Do Right!

Do you have successful diet tips and secrets to share? If so, I can’t wait to read about them!

It’s time to hit the road again and I hope you’ll hop in the backseat for the ride as I head over to meet a few of my fellow A2Zroadsters. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. You’re right, diet does more than exercise when it comes to losing weight. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to do either lately. :-/ I wish I could be inspired to do so!

    1. Dee, it’s so hard to get into the groove when you fall off the wagon so-to-speak, but you’ll find your way back to your own personal fitness and diet goals. Sometimes allowing yourself time away makes you want to get back into the game all the more. 😉

  2. I don’t like to eat big meals all at once – I find that very hard on my system. So, I do eat my healthy dinner (except cheat day which is the kids pizza/movie Friday nights), but during the day I do tend to eat small meals and snack. I think what matters is WHAT you snack on. My snack would be fresh veggies and fruit and some cheese, or yogurt, some small protein. A handful of mixed nuts, a healthy smoothie, or even just toast with peanut butter.

One the major things people do wrong, is cut back way too much on their calories, which sends your body into starvation mode and it will actually hold onto calories!! that is one thing I was surprised to discover when I talked to a diet specialist: when I cut out snacks, I was actually way way under my calories for the day, AND I was not losing any weight. Now I strength train (weights) in addition to doing cardio, pilates and yoga on various days, so maybe that is why it’s different for me. but yes, the bottomline is, if you take in more calories than you work off: you will gain weight. I know many people who after Zumba go for a Starbucks latte and grab one of those brownies or lemon cake too: Um, you just erased any benefits of your work out. Reward yourself when you buy smaller clothes!!! Or, like me: save it up for cheat day.

    1. Les, you’re are so right about the whole undoing what you do, if you have something high calorie after you exercise. Although I try to avoid that danger, my biggest problem was eating too many small in-between snacks and part of the time I wasn’t aware of doing it. Now, that I know I’m eating higher protein meals and reserving snacks if it’s a real emergency. Usually I find that the hungry pains is really me needing to rehydrate. I’m so proud you on your progress, though. 😀
