Day 24 : Christmas Dragnet

Christmas greetings!  For the month of December, I plan to share a Christmas song each day with the hope of adding a little extra cheer to your holiday.  Part of my challenge in this series is to bring to you a new-to-me song or artist discoveries.  There’s no telling what song pick I’ll go with but you’ll find artists from all genres celebrating in song this almost magical, holy season.

It’s Friday again but not just any Friday, it’s Christmas Eve!  This is it, boys and girls, your chances to redeem yourself to make it on Santa’s List.  Let’s kick off the weekend fun with a vintage recording of an old crime TV series parody, Christmas Dragnet by Stan Freberg.

Don’t worry with leaving a comment. This is for your enjoyment.  There’s no worries or fuss or strings attached, simply a moment for you to unwind and refresh your mind or body. 😉

Okay, kiddies, be sure to get in bed early tonight so that jolly fella in the red suit can do his job.  I’ll be back tomorrow morning with bells on with another Christmas song to start your day.  Now, take a deep breathe to enjoy this beautiful season of love.  It’s the most wonderful time of the year! X💋X💋, Cathy

  3. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Friday, Christmas Eve 2021, and S. a. D. Day #24, dear friend!

I’m delighted that you posted this Dragnet parody by Stan Freberg, an actor and comedian who became a big name during my early childhood and pioneered the spoken word comedy record art form. I remember his soap opera parody “John and Marsha” which brushed the top 20 in 1951, and I vaguely remember this single, “Christmas Dragnet,” which approached the top 10 in 1953. Freberg does a great job of imitating the voice and especially the deadpan character of Jack Webb’s Joe Friday on the hit TV series Dragnet which I watched every week with my folks. It’s a funny, long forgotten Christmas record.

I also got a kick out of the kitty kartoon. So true! Our Bootsie is hooked on catnip treats. He practically camps out at the pantry door begging for more of them.

Thanks for the Christmas Eve smiles, dear friend Cathy. I wish you, DH, your kids and darling LA the most joyful Christmas ever. Blessings to you all!
