Christian Rock

Monday’s Music Moves Me theme is “Christian Rock”.  I’m not in the loop with what’s hip and hop in the Christian Rock community today, but I believe I can find some jamming cool tunes to raise the name of the Lord.  Don’t forget to link up 4M dance crew and turn up your speakers to get rowdy this Monday morning as we rejoice in Jesus’s name.  You’re gonna love this first one coz I do!

LIVE OUT LOUD Steven Curtis Chapman

My son was recently invited to The WinterFeast here in town.  Toby Mac was one of the key performers. I wasn’t too familiar with his music, so I decided to look him up on YouTube.  This was one of my favorites.

CITY ON OUR KNEES Toby Mac

On  July 4, 1976, our Nation’s bicentennial birthday, I had a rebirth, a spiritual rebirth that is.  I gave my heart and life over to Jesus.  Newsboys express exactly how I feel in this song.

I’m Not A Shamed lyrics
Songwriter: Don Robey

I’m not ashamed to let you know
I want this light in me to show.
I’m not ashamed to speak the name of Jesus Christ.
What are we sneaking around for?
Who are we trying to please?
Shrugging off sin, apologizing like we’re spreading some kind of disease.
I’m saying, “No way. No way.”
I’m not ashamed to let you know
I want this light in me to show.
I’m not ashamed to speak the name of Jesus Christ.
This one says it’s a lost cause – save your testimonies for church time.
The other ones state you’d better wait until you do a little market research.
I’m saying, “No way. No way.”

Petra is a popular Christian Rock bank band.  They’ve shared the gospel as they’ve cranked out tunes rock style for 33 years.  It Is Finished tells it all!

Thank you for joining me in Monday’s Music Moves Me. I’d like to leave this song of praise and worship with you.  Be happy coz this is the day the Lord hath made!

  1. I listened to dcTalk back in my teen years, and they were assuredly rap.

I listened to dcTalk back in the day as well, and I can promise you they were more than just rap. I thought they were just rap too because that was the dominant culture in our neighborhood, but I’m realizing recently that they were very cross-genre. Check out “What if I stumble” or “Jesus freak” or “Red letters” and you’ll know what I mean.

  4. I didn’t realize TobyMac went rock. I listened to dcTalk back in my teen years, and they were assuredly rap. I did listen to the Newsboys, though back then they were alternative.

    Great choices, Cathy!
