Cathy’s Pinup Girl #AtoZChallenge art sketch series (‘C’) joins Friday Fun Stuff

The weekend is here but while we’re under the ‘safe at home’ order then every day seems to blend together.  I am looking forward to having some chillax time this evening with DH because preparing a make-shift office for him has been stressful.  We were totally not ready for this in many ways, so it was rush, rush, rush to get it done.  I told DH we’ll have everything for ‘the next time’ and it’ll probably not happen again in our life time. 🙂

Okay, if you’ve been following alone this week, then you I’m participating in the greatest annual blog fest on the net, A to Z Challenge! To keep my marbles from rolling in all directions I tried my best to get my illustrations and posts scheduled ahead and some days you’ll  find that I’ve added multiple hops in one post. This keeps me sane and it shows you want I’m into on a regular basis.

Today’s illustration is inspired by pin-up artist, Freeman Elliott’s November 1949 calendar girl.  Be advised, this post contains sensitive material and not recommended for a younger audience. Use discretion before preceding.

My original pencil sketch, I named the ‘Cute Cook’.
Procreate do-over – shortened her hair, did away with the appliances in the background, and made the quote more personal sounding. 🙂
[tweetthis]I just visited Cathy’s Pinup Girl #AtoZChallenge #art sketch series, and I think you should, too! [/tweetthis]
My spin for this week’s Friday Sillies contribution

Every other Friday, I link up with Ellen & Lorraine for their Friendly Fill-ins and here are this week’s blank statements personalized by little ole me.

1. April is a good time to naturally participate in the A to Z Challenge. 😉

2.This time last year, I was doing the same thing as this except there was no worries of the Coronavirus.

3. I am determined to not let the COVID-19 rob me of daily joys and peace of mind. God is control.

4. I have no intention of falling behind on art sketches that I have yet to do but if you come calling and you don’t see my post as usual, just know it’ll be up as quickly as possible.
I think the Cruze Farm girls qualify as modern day pinups. They have the same wholesome, sweetness of vintage pinup gals. Incidentally, the ice cream is creamy goodness any time but especially on a hot summer day.

I almost went with “Hey Good Lookin‘” for today’s song choice but instead, I’ll leave you with the Relaxing Cafe jazz Music for Cooking playlist I found on YT.  You’ll find all previous A2Z posts listed in my side menu this month, so you won’t miss a thing.  Don’t forget to leave your footprints (direct URL) in comments so I can find my way back to you easily. I hope you’ll come back again tomorrow for another illustration in Cathy’s Pinup Girls Art Sketch Series. Have a wonderful day!

X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. I really enjoy seeing your drawings. As someone who also enjoys drawing, I always enjoy seeing others’ artistic style. Yours is wonderful! And thank you for joining in on the Friendly Fill-Ins! Your #3 is so true and profound. Prayers and well wishes!

  2. ooo la la! Things are getting hot in the kitchen! Excellent job. I don’t know that I would be able to do this.

  3. I love your pin up sketches. The connected cats made me laugh!

  4. I am loving your drawings!

  6. The conversation last night here was whether this is a once every hundred years event. We sure hope and pray that’s the case.

  7. Great job on the drawings. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I try not to worry, you are correct that God is in charge, I need to keep reminding myself. Stay healthy. XO

  8. A great PinUp and Donna Reed would love it. You do legs very well and you capture the fun side of it.. The sillies are funny and love that cat one. I am determined to continue to not panic and let this roll by but be careful as well. I hope to get some things organized and have fun in my craft room. Getting a work room ready is never fun when it is sudden. I am in my craft room but I am lucky and my hubby went out to do groceries. He had to wait in line 1 1/2 hours..crazy! Maybe you will have a Doctor or a nurse coming up soon:)

  9. Well done. You’re amazing, Cathy.

Love your fill-ins. I’m with you on not letting fear rule during this time. Excellent advice.

Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Love and hugs. ♥

  10. Hi, Cathy!

I have come to “C” your pinup sketch, dear friend, and your lovely lady of the day does not disappoint. I have studied classic vintage pinup art for many years. A good number of them depict women in the traditional role of preparing food. They might be cooking something on the stove, getting something out of the oven or working outside making burgers on a barbecue grill. “C” is for chef and your girl is a cutie. I especially like the sleek pair of legs you put on her – very nicely and accurately drawn!

The Cruze Farm girls would make great pinups because, as you noted, they look sweet and wholesome. I think that’s what most men respond to in pinup art. They like good girls who aren’t afraid to celebrate their femininity and flaunt their physical attributes now and then.

I read your fill-ins. In April 2019 as we plowed through the A to Z, we could never have imagined what our country and the world would be up against when the 2020 Challenge rolled around. Thanks for posting the 4-hour video of Relaxing Cafe Mewsic for Cooking. I skipped through it and found my favorite soothing piece at the 3 hours, 17 minutes mark.

Thank you, dear friend Cathy, and have a safe and happy day!
