Cathy’s Pinup Girl Art Sketch Series (‘D’) #AtoZChallenge

A few days ago, Tennessee put into place the ‘Stay at Home’ order. Previously we were just under the ‘Safer at Home’ order but in enlight of people not taking this virus the governor is cracking things down to prevent the spread of this contagion.  These orders sound a like. We can make essential trips from our home but I believe the big difference is the authorities now can question or give you a citation for breaking the order. This restraints are temporary. We just need to be patient and remain cool to allow this virus to die.

I’m MIA in Blogosphere on the weekends.  This time is reserved for DH but while I’m away CAAC is always open to first visitors or long time friends. Make yourself at home.

Before you go further let start off by saying this post contains sensitive material and is not recommended for a younger audience. Use discretion before preceding. Today’s illustration is inspired by femme fatale artist, Glen Orbik’s, Jenn Noir.

My original pencil sketch, I dubbed as the ‘Dangerous Dame’

I hope you enjoyed Rodgers & Hammerstein song, There Is Nothing Like A Dame, as much as I did. I just had to smile hearing this again.  Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope y’all are safe and sound on your end.  Try to find some time to enjoy a good movie, a book, a board game, or another fun activity with your family.  Look at this time spent locked up at home as an opportunity to share it with those you love. 😉 Please, remember to leave your footprints (direct URL) in comments so I can find my way back to you easily. I’ll be back on Monday for the A to Z Challenge with another illustration in Cathy’s Pinup Girls Art Sketch Series.  I hope y’all have a wonderful day! 😉

    1. Birgit,

I was hoping you’d stop by. I knew with your love of old movies my Dangerous Dame would be to your liking. 🙂 Everyone who’s stopped has seen South Pacific and I have yet to see it. I’m going to see if I can find that for streaming. 🙂

  1. That’s a fabulous sketch, Cathy, especially the colour version. You’re talent is evolving more and more! 👌 We’re all on lockdown here too, but walks outdoors are still acceptable as long as we stay away from others, so that’s what we’ve been doing. I hope all is well with you and your family! Thanks for stopping by The Den a few days ago. Have a good week!

    1. Debbie,

I’m not sure what the difference is in a lockdown and a stay at home order. We haven’t been out this week. There are signs posted in stores stating maintain 6 feet distances from others but people don’t pay attention to the signs or what they are doing. It’s utter stupidity! What’s the point of giving a warning? I betcha if someone had a gun pointing at them and they said, “Come any closer and I’ll shoot” they’ stay far away. Just because you can’t see the danger doesn’t mean it isn’t there. It’s like an invisible enemy waiting to take you out and you have no clue if or when the enemy will strike. Understandably you can’t live in fear but you can do what’s reasonable and we don’t see a whole of people attempting to do reasonable. Crazy! Crazy! Crazy! Anyway, thanks for your kind words on my artwork and thanks for the visit, my friend. Be safe and well. xx

  2. That’s really great art!

We’re staying home here too. UK currently in lockdown but there are still covididiots out there flouting these rules and going out sunbathing in parks and behaving like they don’t give a damn. Some are still gathering in large groups and they shouldn’t be. There were 3000 of them gathering in a London park yesterday so now they’ve shut down the parks. Here where we live, which is outside London, things are quiet and it’s just the way it should be.

    1. Athena,

As long as the world stands there will be idiots. We’re staying indoors mostly for now. Hopefully in a week or two things will improve. By then we’ll need some things from the store, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that the threat of the COVID-19 bug is dying off.

  3. I wouldn’t mess with her either, but your drawings are excellent! We always liked South Pacific too.

  4. Like both of these pinups (colorized and not) and I also enjoyed the song from South Pacific. We campers did South Pacific one year at summer camp and I still remember (sort of) some of the songs we sang.

    1. Alana,

Ahhh, so I jogged a distant memory with ‘There’s Nothin’ Like A Dame’? That’s such a fun song with a bunch of guys happy to be guys who appreciate a beautiful woman and there’s certainly nothing wrong with thtat. 😉

    1. Janet,

I’d say she’s dangerous! I wouldn’t want to get around her with that smokin’ gun, she might have another bullet in the chamber. Yikes!

    1. Keith,

It just looks like she fired blindly. The hat bill sits low like that just to make her more mysterious but you may want to keep your distance all the same. She’s a gal you don’t want to have any dispute with in my opinion.

    1. Robin,

I don’t think I’ve seen the film, South Pacific, except for clips of it sometime way in the past but that song just cracks me up. 😀

  5. Hi, Cathy!

Happy D-Day to you, dear friend! I didn’t have to look far to find “the smoking gun.” 🙂 Your ‘Dangerous Dame’ is holding it. I don’t think I’d want to mess with her, even though she’s a ravishing redhead. You got me curious about the artwork of Glen Orbik. I did an image search and found many of his excellent noir-style illustrations used as covers for paperback pulp novels and comics. Sadly Glen died of cancer five years ago at age 51 or 52. He was my kind of artist!

I enjoyed the scene from the 1958 musical film South Pacific, especially watching and listening as “Uncle Martin,” Ray Walston from the hit 60s TV series My Favorite Martian, sang his parts of the song “There Is Nothing Like A Dame.”

Thank you for the mewsic and smiles, dear friend Cathy, and have a nice weekend hunkering down with DH!

    1. Tom,

Glen Orbik did fabulous designs. I love his illustrations! The woman always look seductive and dangerous. I didn’t know that he passed away a few years back. He would be about my age now, maybe a year younger. Thanks for leaving me delightful words of praise on my artwork. It was delicious fun sketching my Dangerous Dame. 🙂
