C.A.T.H.Y.

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! How was y’alls weekend? DH had combo eye surgery on Thursday. Everything went very well. He had cataract surgery first. This makes it easier for the second surgeon to see through a clear lens, then with the second procedure the retina surgeon removed the oil bubble, replacing it with an air bubble which will dissipate in 7-9 days. Friday, he had a post-op appointment with his retina surgeon and so far, so good! Right now his vision is blurry in that eye because he’s seeing throught the air bubble but that’s expected to improve soon. Eventually, he’ll need to have new glasses made but that’s probably several weeks out.  We stayed home Saturday and Sunday just to regroup after two exhausting days, more so for DH than me but it was tiring for me, too. I have some catching up to do today but right now it’s time to boogie!

Today’s Spotlight Dancer, John from The Sound of One Hand Typing submitted this week’s mewsic theme, “SONG TITLES BEGINNING WITH EACH LETTER OF YOUR FIRST, MIDDLE, LAST, OR FULL NAME“, and coincidentally is this month’s honorary co-host.  Congrats and welcome aboard, my friend! Michelle is stepping down due to Internet connectivity and life issues.  We hate to see her go but appreciated the help while Colette is on a medical hiatus.  Please continue to keep her in your prayers. Now, join my fellow co-hosts: XmasDolly (Party Coordinator), Stacy, & our newest co-host, Alana on the dance floor (open to only mewsic posts)!

I decided to use the letters of my first name only but also, I wanted the song title to include the word “girl” and came up with my C.A.T.H.Y. playlist!

  1.  “Cinnamon Girl” Neil Young
  2. “American Girl” Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
  3. “This Little Girl” (1981) Gary U.S. Bonds
  4. “Hey Little Girl” Icehouse
  5. “Young Girl” (1968 )Gary Puckett & The Union Gap

[tweetthis]Hit the dance floor with “Song Titles Beginning With Each Letter of Your First, Middle, Last, or Full Name” with the #4M gals! @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]

Do you like your name? Would you change yours if you could? What would it be? Do you know anyone who has legally changed his/her name?

    1. Colette,

Everything did go well. We thank God for His blessings. The air bubble is now dissolved. He still has two more weeks before he’s completely released for all normal activity. Thanks for the prayers. I continue to keep you in mine.

  1. First, I’m happy for the good outcome on the eye surgery. My hubbie has had cataract surgery on both eyes – the constant parade of eye drops is a big hassle but I have to do eye drops four times a day due to dry eye – I never thought I would get used to eye drops but I have. I am also at some risk of retinal detachment because I am extremely nearsighted and “oil bubble” does not sound like a fun thing. Oh yes, the music. I knew all these songs but I had not heard the Icehouse song in such a long time. And you had to make this theme even more challenging. Way to go!

    1. Alana,

Last year was a bit of shocker with the 4 & 5 separate eye drops but over the months until right up to his surgery he was still on one eye drop med, then after the surgery, he went to two. That really isn’t such a big deal compared to what he started with more than a year ago. lol

Yikes, I hope you NEVER have to deal with a detached retina. It’s not only scary but very involved. The “oil bubble” definitely messed up DH’s vision but it was a necessary thing to keep the retina in place. I think the surgeon can choose between an “oil, gas, or air bubble’. The “oil bubble” has to be surgically removed whereas the “gas and air bubbles” dissolve over time. I guess which is used depends on many factors. Although it’s been an inconvenience, we’re happy with the progression so far. His doctors are excellent!

      Thanks for dancing with me!

  2. Great playlist, and I especially like the secondary theme of having all of them with the word “girl” in the title! I think this theme worked out great, didn’t it?

    1. John,

Your theme idea was excellent and as you probably know some folks got really carried away with the theme. lol That’s fine by me, though. I loved sharing in the enthusiasm! I think your theme needs to be repeated down the line!

  3. Sorry I’m late to the party! A theme within a theme. We kinda did that. TW loved Gary Puckett when she was really young.

    1. Cathy,

I find there are weeks when I’m late to the dance party, too. So, no worries my friend, no worries! I saw Gary Puckett in concert in the mid-80s along with the Monkees. It seems like there was a couple of other old bands on tour with them, too. It was a lot of fun to attend!

  4. Hey Cath! (Is it okay to call you Cath? Some folks hate shortened name nicknames)…
So good to be back. Thanks so much for checking in on me while I was dealing with all my “stuff”. Glad to hear that your husband’s eye surgery went well. The eyes are so delicate and it’s critical to take care of them. I forgot about the detached retina issue from back then. That air bubble sounds weird. Does it feel weird or he just knows it’s there because his vision is blurry? I hate having blurry vision: I have dry eye syndrome and have to do drops regularly. But it’s not as bad as the cataract drop/ointment regimen! Your DH is lucky to have you by his side taking care of him. What a great wife you are!!

Hey, you picked one of my favorite songs in your playlist: “Young Girl” by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. What an oldie but goodie! I remember my brother, who is 7 years older than me, had that album. Album! Actualy vinyl. Hard to believe it’s been so long since having to shop for record player needle replacement parts, etc. And the hearing the “pops” in the records as they played. Always hated that but some vinyl worshippers LOVE those pop sounds.

Cool that you spelled out your name AND with songs that also included “Girl” in the title! This was such a fun theme. Hey, when you have a minute, swing back by my place: I uploaded two more name playlists into my post last night (well, I finished at 3am this morning)! Some great songs. See which ones you like and/or remember.

Thanks again for being such a great friend out here in bloggerspace. Was nice to know that there were folks keeping me in thought and prayer. really appreicate it. Really appreciate YOU!

    Have a great week,
    Michele at Angels Bark

    1. Michele,

Yeah, you can call me ‘Cath’. I don’t have any problem with someone giving me a nickname or even shortening it. Last year, the retina surgeon put an oil bubble in his eye to hold the retina in place which has to be removed. That’s what he did last week replacing it with an air bubble which does the same thing, except it won’t have to be removed as it dissolves over time. I suspect this is just an added precautionary measure because we were told that sometimes after the oil bubble is removed the retina can detach again but I’m confident that won’t happen. The air bubble is partly to blame for his blurry vision. The doctor either said or we read somewhere that it’s kinda like looking through water. He’s not in much pain at all which seems weird to me but thankful that he isn’t suffering much. The eye drop regimen was a huge adjustment. Last year, he had 4 or 5 different drops he used 2-4 times each day which went on for months until the better part of the past 6-months, maybe a little longer he was down to only one eye drop. Now, he’s on 2 different drops 4x per day. That’s not as bad as last year. 🙂

I remember the vinyl pops, the record skipping if someone bumped the player or stomped the floor too hard, the scratchy sound of someone inexperienced or carelessly lifting the needle, and the odd sound signaling the record is at the end. Oh, yeah and having to buy need replacements. HA! I know vinyl enthusiasts think mewsic sounds better on records but every time the vinyl gets played it’s wearing it away. I don’t understand the thought process behind the mewsic being better on vinyl whereas CDs aren’t subjected to the same condition to reproduce mewsic. Oh well…I don’t miss the days of record players and vinyl, except for the glory it represents in my mind which is a dangerous place (my mind).

I will hop over to your place shortly to listen to your additional playlists. Whew, you were busy! Thanks for the revisit and it’s great having you back on the dance floor, dear friend. It is a good feeling knowing others you’ve never met but only know through a blog prays for you. It’s a great comfort, isn’t it? Take it easy!

  5. Well, girlfriend you have done it again! You have accomplished blowing my mind once again with all these fab tunes that begins with each letter of you first name… girl… I’m tellin’ ya you are thee VERY BEST!!! 1. Marie,

Thanks for the boogie and prayers for DH. He’s doing well. I think he’s gonna be okay. He just needs to take it easy and that’s hard on him because he just wants to go, go, go!

  6. What a fun theme! Those are some good tunes for a Monday. Thanks. Cathy. 🙂 Glad to know everything went well with DH’s surgery. Have a good week!

  7. Love your Spark. Right on the money.

Love the video. I’ve not heard that song in a very long time.

Have a fabulous day filled with love, smiles and great music. Big hugs. ♥

  8. Very cool\ songs. I hope DH gets better soon. As for my name, I hate it. I am not a fan of Patrick, I really hate when people call me Pat. UGH. Anyway, I hope that you have a wonderful week.

    1. Patrick,

Thanks for boogieing with me and well wishes for DH. He’s doing very well. BTW, I like your name. As a kid, I really didn’t like mine because it was so popular. I think in every class there was at least two other girls with the same name but usually spelled with a ‘K’. There was even a gal I went to school with from grades 1 – 11 with the same last name. Talk about confusing!

    1. Eugenia,

Yes, I’m usually up early each morning during the week. It was a gorgeous Monday and it looks like today is going to be a repeat. Thanks for boogieing with me!

  9. I’ve read something like 99% of us get cataracts before we die. But that retina surgery–that sounds scary. I hope all comes out right!

    1. Jacqui,

WOW, I didn’t realize the need for cataract surgery was that high! It used to be a procedure that occurred only in the elderly but I’m noticing people, folks, a lot younger than expected having the surgery. Although, DH had the beginning stages of cataracts the retina attachment surgery causes the need for it regardless if you have cataracts or not. A detached retina is very scary. 30 years ago this usually meant blindness but medical technology has improved drastically for which I’m so grateful that DH benefited. Supposedly being very near-sighted increases the chance of retinal detachment. I just hope his other eye doesn’t fail like this. Right now things are looking good so all glory goes to God!

  10. I love you spark, that is so true. Sorry I didn’t do the mewsic hop this week, I am still getting caught up after taking some time off last week. I love your choices and how you used your first name plus all the songs have girl in them- impressive. Have a nice week! XO

    1. Ellen,

No worries about not joining the 4M gang on the dance floor. It’s open anytime for you to join the party. Sometimes you gotta take a break. Thanks for stopping by to boogie with me!

  11. Cathy

I LOVE that you included ‘Girl’ songs – it’s almost as though it was a theme within a theme! Cinnamon Girl is a good one – always fun to listen to. Thanks for letting me know about Yellow Ledbetter. I’ve got it fixed now.

    ~Mary

    1. Mary,

Precisely! That’s what I was going for when I came up with adding ‘girl’ to the equation. I was happy to tell you about the broken video on your playlist. It happens sometimes. 🙂

  12. Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for sharing the encouraging mews about DH, dear friend! I am very happy to know his eye procedures went well and that he only needs to put up with the air bubble for 7-9 days. That means you and he will be able to do plenty of mountain climbing this summer. 🙂 I enjoyed the songs in your C.A.T.H.Y. playlist. It’s very close to purrfect! I haven’t heard “Cinnamon Girl” in many a year, probably since the year of its release – 1970. Another one that opened my eyes this early in the morning was Gary U.S. Bonds singing his later career hit “This Little Girl.” i doubt that I have heard that once since 1981 but it was a biggie. The videos of the Aussie band Icehouse were popular on the MTV station where I worked in the 80s and 90s and I remember their late 1982 song and video “Hey Little Girl.” “Young Girl” is one of the biggest anchor songs of my life. It hit the street during my freshman year of college and became linked in my mind to a girl I dated at the height of its popularity.

Thank you very much for the good mews and the great mewsic & memories, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

DH’s surgeries went well and we’re equally happy that he’s not under as many restrictions as first thought. He’s not going to be ready to venture to the mountains this weekend since he grows tired easily and his recovery is first priority. I’m delighted you enjoyed my name playlist. It was a mix of new and old songs. I always challenge myself to find new tunes when I can to broaden my mewsic education. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your memory lane with me!
