CAAC presents Quarterflash on the dance floor!

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

Every time, I see baby chicks I think of chasing these little downy yellow critters in my grandparents yard.  Spring time was the best because there was always plenty of diddies (baby chicks) to try catch, which I never did, not one single time!  The memory always puts a smile on my face, though.

Thanks for making the Sunday Edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me a part of your day!  This month’s guest hostess is Marie from Xmas Dolly.

March special guest hostess!

The theme this week is whatever music moves you. For a recent Top Ten Tuesday playlist I came across the song “Harden My Heart”.  I remember the song well but the artist name stumped me, Quarterflash. Really?

The band released their self-title debut album in 1981 with the new version of their #3 US Billboard Hot 100 single, Harden My Heart.  The album did well, too.  It peak #8 on Billboard’s Top LPs & Tapes chart selling over a million copies earning RIAA (The Recording Industry Association of America) platinum stats.   Find Another Fool was the band’s follow-up single from the album peaking #16 which I do not remember.

Flash back to the 80s, hit play to dance to the beat of yesterday’s sound!

Song tracks: 1. Harden My Heart 2. Find Another Fool 3. Critical Times 4. Valerie 5. Try To Make It True 6. Right Kind of Love 7. Cruisin’ With the Deuce 8. Love Should Be So Kind 9. Williams Avenue

This is a music linky party.  Your co-hostess are MarieStacyAlana, and Me.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

THE PARTY BEGINS HERE!

4M design by Cathy Kennedy

A special thank you to Marie for being this month’s special guest hostess.  You brought a bit of nostalgia to the dance floor this month with your themes.  It was great fun.  Before I forget, I want to call to your attention that I added a chat plugin to my site.  It’s visible in the lower right corner of my site.  This will give you another way to reach out to me if you’d like.  This is CAAC signing off, I’ll be back for Thursday Art Date to share a new art design created for this week’s prompt.  Have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. I think I’m like a lot of people when I say the only song by Quarterflash I can recall hearing by them is “Harden My Heart.” They were a good band. Good theme!

  2. Very nice and I loved Quarterflash back in the day. Great choice. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

  3. What a sweet spring and Easter photo! Wow, a flashback to the 80s with Quarterflash – love it! Have a great week ahead, Cathy! 😘

  4. Love the soundtrack. Beautiful.

Awww on those precious little ones. Couldn’t be cuter.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  5. Wow I’m not sure when I last heard the name Quarterflash or the song Harden My Heart (but when I saw the song name I immediately remembered the group!) Thanks for the memory – looking forward to listening! 🙂

  6. I’ve raised chicks (when we lived in Arkansas, we bought them mail order, plus if we had a broody hen we let her sit) and I still enjoy seeing them. (But I will add my standard PLEASE DON’T BUY THEM AS EASTER PETS!) Your photo puts us in the spring/Easter holiday spirit. I enjoyed Quarterflash. The only songs I knew were the first two. I think my favorite of the others was Williams Avenue.

  7. I’m originally from the Portland area, and am old enough to remember when Quarterflash were called Seafood Mama. Plus, I worked with bassist Jack Charles’ mother.

Quarterflash comes from Australian slang for new immigrants: “one quarter flash, three quarters foolish.”

  8. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Paw-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH are having a nice weekend.

Awww.. I just wanna smooch all those young critters! They are seen huddled close together and treating each other gently, something we humans can choose to do if we put our minds and hearts to it. It’s good to know the tranquil scene brings back memories for you of chasing diddies in your grandparents’ yard in the springtime.

I well remember the Portland, Oregon, band Quarterflash because we played their videos on the MTV style station where I worked. Their signature song, “Harden My Heart” was a biggie in my neck of the woods. Rindy Ross’s vocal style reminds me of Pat Benatar, and she is close to Pat in appearance as well. In addition, she plays a mean sax, making Quarterflash an unusual mewsical act of the 80s or any other decade. On “Find Another Fool,” Rindy sounds even more like Pat Benatar. The song sounds like Pat’s hit “Heartbreaker.” As I continue to listen to songs like “Valerie, it occurs to me that Rindy also sounds like Laura Branigan, another pop-rock hit maker during that period. It doesn’t matter to me that the songs on the Quarterflash album are derivative of other popular artists, because I love the UK and U.S. new wave pop-rock sound of the 80s As I come to “Try To Make It True,” I also remember an artist I know you remember because you recently posted many of her songs. I’m referring to Aggie Faltskog, the former ABBA singer whose 80s output sounded a lot like some of these Quarterflash songs. As I come to “Right Kind Of Love” I need to add Marilyn Martin, the Tennessee-born, Kentucky raised songstress who had a hit duet with Phil Collins on “Separate Lives” and released excellent solo singles. “Right Kind Of Love” reminds me of Marilyn’s “Night Moves.” All of these 80s ladies were fantastic. “Williams Avenue” is another cool song. To sum it up, in my opinion Quarterflash is at their best when Rindy is singing lead. The songs with the male lead vocal (perhaps that of band guitarist Jack Charles) aren’t as special.

I appreciate the quote by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. My mother adored her.

Thank you for hitting the bullseye with another great featured mewsical act, Rindy Ross and Quarterflash. You made my day, dear friend Cathy. Ill see you back here on Thursday for our Art Date with Rain!
