About the author

Born and raised in the Appalachian mountains of southern WV, I was a child bride. I married my high school sweetheart in 1979 and we moved to east Tennessee to begin our new life.

I finished high school, earned an associate degree at a small collage, worked outside the home from 1983-1987 as a computer system’s manager doing troubleshoots, maintain system back-ups, all monthly print outs, and overseeing all data entry. After our first child’s birth in 1988, I retired to be a full time SAHM.

As a single income family, we choose to home school our kids when they were of age.  I home-schooled all three of ours K-12. It was a hard job but gradually got easier as the children got older.   In 2010, I self-published a children’s illustrated book.  I had hoped it would springboard a writing career but when writing begins to resemble work then the enjoyment is stolen.  By this time I discovered blogging was more than a means to promote my book but a community of people who shared similar interests with me.

What’s behind the blog name? We all have used the expression, curious as a cat. I am no exception. In 2013, I gave my blog a make-over, I wanted a blog name that said who I was. I’m curious, I thought, and my name is Cathy. Hence, the birth of a new blog name, Curious as a Cathy. I love experiencing life. I am not a thrill seeker. I prefer to savor moments wrapped in the things I love such as photography, photo-editing, sketching, cooking, music, and creative writing.

Thank you for taking the time to get-to-know-me a little better and I look forward to building a friendship with you!

Once a friend, always a friend! 💕

  1. “I enjoy writing, but not when it resembles work”. Well-said Cathy! 😀 Through all the years I’ve known you, this is the first time I read your ABOUT page completely. Beautifully done! 👌

    1. Debbie,

Only days before you viewed this page I modified the content but it still needs more tweaking. I’m happy you got a chance to read about me.

  2. You have such a cute blog, and I find it fascinating how so many of us are ‘curious’. While we might not be curious about the same things; being that way has helped me to understand things I might not have known before. 🙂

    xoxo

    1. Sally,

Curiosity is what keeps our minds’ sharp, don’t you agree? We’re never too old to learn something new and in Blogosphere I learn quite a bit from others. 🙂

  3. Hi Cathy. Interesting life and I like your blog. Gotta run this morning – need to be out of the house by 10:00 to go to a birthday party (I prefer these parties later in the day, ugh)… Anyway I enjoyed what I read. Thanks for your visit to my blog.

    1. Sandy,

I’m happy to share a little of myself with a new friend. Thank you for stopping by to get better acquainted. I hope you’ll visit as often as you’d like. 🙂

  4. I hope you don’t mind but I nominated you to the 3-day Lyrical Challenge. I checked back a few posts but it didn’t look like you had already done it recently. I thought you might like it. MNL at Cactus Haiku (I’m Mary and also at Cactus Catz so it might be I left comments under Cactus Catz, usually about your drawings. I don’t think you’ve been to Cactus Haiku but I got nominated there and when it comes ot music, I think of your blog.)

    1. Mary,

Thank you for nominating to the ‘3-day Lyrical Challenge’. I will certainly give this a try as I don’t think I’ve ever been passed this fun award. I’m happy that when you think of mewsic you think of my little blog. I love mewsic! What are the rules for this challenge? Do you have them posted on your blog? I looked but didn’t see anything quickly. If you can direct me then I’d appreciate that! 😉 Have a blessed day, my friend.

      1. It’s here about midway

but to make it easier, it’s simple:
1 Thank the person who nominated you.
2 Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
3 Nominate three other bloggers each day.
I’m having a lot of fun with it. I hope you will too!

  5. Hi Cathy! Thanks for visiting One Spoiled Cat this morning……I’ve always believed that being curious leads to finding a lot of magic in this world. Teddy’s blog is just pure fun because I think FUN keeps us young. I started the blog when I lost my writing “voice” when I was mid-book #2 of a mystery series I was writing for my publisher. Cancer treatment seemed to take away my ability to put thoughts together so I thought I’d start a blog to try and get the voice back – which I did but I also found blogging to be a LOT of fun. So here I am. I think we all find a way to express ourselves in time. I’m over 70 and loving it. Teddy reminds me every day that I have LOTS to live for and be grateful for. Again – nice to meet you.

    Hugs, Pam

    1. Pam,

I’m happy to know more about you and glad that you are a cancer survivor. Blogging is a wonderful platform for expressing oneself. I always like writing but I am not gifted enough to be a novelist. I’m just a sharer and this is my way to stay connected with others. Thanks for the return visit and I hope you have a good weekend. Be blessed!

  6. Thank you so much for stopping over at Impromptu Promptlings, Cathy. And for the follow! I realized after I commented back to you that I had NO idea what the A-Z Challenge was! Do you have a link for it by any chance?

  7. Hi, I really enjoyed learning more about you, Cathy. It made me want to be more transparent at my blog and participate more in the blogging community. I am so much more than just the gal trying to publish her book. I started blogging to launch a writing career, but like you, I have a broad array of interests. It’s been one of the bonuses of blogging! There have been days I’ve been tempted to start a new blog, just to explore some of these interests. But for now, I’m mostly focused on getting published.
BTW, your blog title is perfect. It “make me curious.” 🙂

  8. Cathy, I too was curious so I went to your blog. We have many things in common, only one of which is family. Mom and Dad told me many ‘Hagerman tales’ before they passed in 2002 & 2003. I consider myself fortunate that I listened. I enjoyed your blog, keep in touch, cousin!

    1. Rosa, thank you for the interest to learn a little about me here. I think that’s wonderful you wrote down the stories your parents shared with you. I wish I had asked more questions growing up while taking notes, but I didn’t. I married young, moved away, and those things sorta never happened. Now, I’m slowly piecing things together with the help of family like you. I definitely will keep in touch with you! 😉

  9. I enjoyed getting to know more about you! I’m from Knoxville myself (still live right outside of it). I can never imagine living anywhere else. Thank you for featuring my WW today. Have a blessed week!

    1. What a small world it is! I didn’t realize you live in the area. How did I overlook that piece information? Oh well…it’s certainly nice to meet you. I enjoyed reading your “About Me” section of your blog. I was totally inspired. God bless!
