A walk at Campbell Station Park

Posted on January 28, 2015

Hello, kittens & dawgs! It’s hump day already. As the old saying goes, it’s all down here the rest of the way. I’m ready to slide right into Friday, aren’t  you?

In Bad things come in threes, I shared a night shot I took at one of the local parks. I thought I’d share a couple of images captured at the same park taken during the day.

Photography is an interesting in the way the camera’s eye perceives light depending on the conditions cloudy or bright skies to your lens focal length, aperture and shutter settings.

In order by time, I will show you what I mean.

Photo capture of birds landing on trees. What I didn’t realize was I caught three birds. Do you see them? ~Campbell Station Park in Farragut, TN

Clearly, the sky is overcast in the above picture, but the angle and light is drastically different from this next photo.

Sneak shot of little girl statue image framed by the tree in the foreground. ~Campbell Station Park in Farragut, TN

The below picture, I took about an hour later while the edge of the night moved across the sky. Oddly, my first shot in the series of the footbridge image appeared lighter than the first picture I shared above. Again, it has to do with the angle of the light hitting the camera sensor and my settings. I opted to not share that one, but instead a different one I liked better.

The light wasn’t quite dim enough in the late afternoon to suit my taste. It lacked the drama needed to capture the lights strung on the footbridge, but stopping the exposure down enabled the camera sensor to pick up the bluish glow from the LED bulbs.

Quiet walk across footbridge leads to a loop hilly path through the park. The trail was longer than I expected, but a good place to walk on a nice day. Despite the clouds, the temperature was mild for late December.

I’m not technically oriented in the photography world by any means. I find it all a learn-as-you-go process, which I happily accept. I am not a world-class photographer and never will be. I’m a recreational shutterbug who aspires with each shot taken is a little better than the one before. All that matter is I’m having fun doing something I like. Can you say the same?

Sending a round of applauds and cheers to this week’s featured photographer…

LOVE the one with the girl statue. You got perfection there!
And I am by no means a professional level either — I find myself improving by just as you say: learning as I go. the most important thing is to just get out and Shoot! sometimes you get lucky.
I’d love an actual photography course at some point, but for now, I am having fun and happy with the slow curve.

I recently got a small camera. I am still learning to use it and I am so jealous of the people who can use manual setting czu I just cant =(

Oh, it sure look beautiful in your part of the country, but I don’t know if I could live without mountains in the background.

The Smoky mountains can be seen from Knoxville, Danielle. Just about any direction we drive, we can see the mountains in the background. Things don’t begin to flat out until you go closer toward the east coast or south of Atlanta. We live in a good region where we have the mountains, but can be at the beach in 8-hours along the Carolina coast. Thanks for stopping by!

If my camera were working it would be fun to do my own shots. I miss that. Meanwhile, my thoughts on your photos of today… which I really like!

The three birds look like musical notes on a scale.
Love, love the framing shot of the little girl.
Love the blue light reflection into the water under the bridge.

The Christmas-Moon shot is great. You’d almost think there was a body of water behind the smaller trees that is reflecting the moon, but I’m sure it’s probably from house lights.
    Very, very, nice, Cathy!

Dixie, the Christmas-moon shot is of the moon. You can’t see the water behind the small lighted trees in that photo. The little creek is actually toward the left, which you could see if it were day. I think the parting clouds even the background that watery appearance playing tricks on your imagination. Thanks for the lovely compliments on my photos. You’re too kind!

The girl statue and the footbridge are lovely photos. I am now getting back into using my settings as on vacation I used the auto mode a lot as it was more important to me to capture the moments then perhaps miss them due to fiddling. Fortunately for me I can still shoot in RAW mode in auto so I have all the information needed to process them.

Getting the moment digitally in auto mode is better than not getting it all. When I feel like I may miss an opportunity because of my slowness, then I scrap manual settings and go auto.

Practice makes perfect, Marie! Once the weather breaks get outdoors and have fun. The coldness tends to drive me inside, too. I would hate to live up north where it really gets cold. lol Stay warm!

It’s all tricky stuff, Jennifer! I find I do a lot of fiddling with my shutter exposure to see what works best to my eye, too, and when I’m baffled I ask DH who is a nature at this sort of thing.

Well, you sure do have nice photos to NOT be a pro. I guess you have a natural eye behind the camera lens. DH is like that and regardless if he’s using a SLR or iPhone he pin points the best shot every time. I try to mimic him and usually fail. lol
