A couple of weekends ago when DH was off on a Friday, I can’t recall if it was that Friday or Saturday that we decided to check out a few homes we had on our list. The weather was warm but clouds threatened us with rain while we were out. Our forecast was calling for some that evening so we felt we’d be free of any actual showers until after nightfall. Autumn’s colors are visible. The trees are in that hit or miss state, you know some trees look nice or will be soon and others far from their fall wardrobe.
We came upon this church. It’s not the first time we’ve pulled off the road here but I don’t think I ever took a picture of it and so I didn’t want to let the opportunity fly past me. The grey day wasn’t the best for a photo-op so I decided to play with the first image using my DistressedFX app. You might recall I’ve used this mobile app in the past
Here’s the original photo (below). Clearly, it’s nothing extraordinary and a bit on the boring side if you ask me. The colors looked better than this and would’ve been a bit more visible to your eye had I brightened my exposure a wee bit but that would’ve washed the sky out dramatically. Cloudy days aren’t great for these sorts of captures but I had fun nonetheless.
Back in the summer, I worked diligently on my A to Z Little Mermaid pencil sketches breathing new life into my designs using my Procreate drawing app. Last month, I shared two ‘in living color’ illustrations and today, I’d like to add another one from the original series of Ollie.

Dearest Cathy,
The edited picture looks spectacular. I was floored. And I love the gloomy yet hopeful spookiness to the non-edited version. I think I should try my hand at some of these apps too. I’m pretty lazy and way behind technology sometimes. Just tired of all the social media. So don’t wish to add more things to do online.
As always love your posts. The sketch is cuteness overload.
Your page is so very peppy and vibrant that I love swinging by often.
Big hugs for a great weekend.
Shine on…

Beautiful job of editing the church pic, Cathy. I edit all of my photos and even images from other sites that offer free photos. Love your mermaid sketch!
Eugenia,
There’s nothing wrong with playing with any image. It brings out one’s creative side. 😉
I like the effect from the photo app. Your drawing is very cute too.
I added my Northern Lights Wordless Wednesday link but also added my Halloween link because that was quite a wild or weird experience. I hope that is okay.

Oh, sure you can add multiple links. I dropped by yesterday and saw your Northern Lights photos – gorgeous! I will be sure to check out your second entry. 🙂
I am so sorry for being so late, but I have the worst cold ever plus hubby and I have been so busy going to his doctor, and then tests up the……. anyway I sure hope they find out what’s wrong with him. Anyway, forgive me baby girl, but I’m bushed…. sorry I wasn’t here earlier. BIG HUGS….
Marie,
Don’t worry about the late visit. You and Dave just take care of yourselves. I hope the doctor finds out what’s wrong with your hubs soon. Saying prayers for you guys. Sending lots of hugs and love your way!
Such a nice place. Hope you that you are having a wonderful week.
Patrick,
My week is going fine. It’s just busy as usual. 🙂
I have a lot to learn about photo editing software. I know someone who teaches Adobe Photoshop classes at our local community college but I am nowhere near read for that. I enjoyed your church photo, before and after. You might enjoy visiting New York State in the spring when they have Sacred SItes Sunday – churches all over the state hold open houses and I have visited many local churches of various denominations. I’ve found some real gems, complete with Tiffany windows and other beautiful features.. .
Alana,
I’m sure there are some beautiful old churches in your area and I would love to see them. The springtime of the year would be especially nice, too. It’s funny, we can be out in the middle of nowhere it seems there’s a church about every quarter mile and I wonder how can that be? What really floors me is out in the middle of nowhere sometimes we’ll come upon a good-sized church that totally blows my mind.
What a good post these are brilliant your quite talented 🙂
Have a sketchtastic week Cathy 🙂
That Church is very nice and so is your art!
Yeah, some days the light just isn’t right. But it’s a nice shot, anyway.
That is a cool looking church! I’d love to see it in person!
betty
Betty,
I love coming across these old country churches. They have so much character that newer, larger churches lack. Have you ever noticed how some churches don’t even look like a church? A steeple with a cross or bell tower with a cross has a warm, old-timey feel and remind me of the churches I went to as a kid.
Nice old church–I love seeing buildings like this. The photo touch-up is interesting–almost kind of spooky. Maybe it’s those birds.

Lee,
I guess in a way that’s what I was going for a bit spooky but mostly I wanted to add nostalgic energy to my image.
What a beautiful church! Love your drawing as always, Cathy.
Thanks, Veronica! I’m so glad you stopped by today.
helo Cathy, i like your modofied photo. It’s full mystery.
and your picture with the metmaid is extraordinary!
Happy WW 😊
Thank you, Carmen! 🙂
Some churches just beg you to photograph them. Beautiful.
I love your sketch. You are so talented.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥
Sandee,
I try to not pass up these old churches. They are so interesting.
That is a beautiful church. I like your drawing too. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day! XO
That’s a cool app to make your photo more dramatic. Playing with edits is always fun. 🙂 Your sketch is excellent, Cathy! Love the expression on Ollie’s face. 🙂 P.S. I added my link from yesterday’s post. Hope that’s okay. Cheers!
Debbie,
Oh sure adding yesterday’s post is fine! I just want to give folks a chance to promote whatever they want. Of course within reason. lol I love playing around with photos. DistressedFX is an easy mobile app that allows you to use the built-in resources to create some photo fun. It’s cool. Of course, a good photo-editing program and right resources do the same plus a whole lot. It just requires a little more time. Either way, it’s photo reimaging magic!
Nice illustration of mermaid and great photo of church.
What a beautiful church! I attended a country church recently. Inside, it was the most beautiful church I’ve ever seen. I wanted to take pictures, but I wasn’t sure that was okay.
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Wild and Almost Wordless Wednesday to you, dear friend!
I’m back up and running following my eye surgery and post-op exam. All is AOK so far, but my vision is a little blurry because I need to wear a protective plastic shield over my eye for a week.
I like how you turned a picture of a rather ordinary looking church on a gray day into a dramatic postcard. I am also delighted to flash back with you to last April and see another of your A to Z Little Mermaid pencil sketches burst into bloom In Living Color. Ollie the octopus is a joy to behold in that shade of purple. It goes nicely with the mermaid’s pink costume and matching lips and the muted green of the sea grass. It’s a very pleasing illustration.
Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
I’m delighted that you felt like coming by this morning. I know things are a bit off with the eye but things will gradually improve. You’ll continue to be in our prayers during your healing process. Will you need surgery on the other eye?
I’m happy that you like the photo edit and newest ‘in living color’ update. I almost imagine the mermaid, Gabriella, in this sketch is my little granddaughter who’s half-Mexican. She’s not as brown as this cartoon character nor is her hair jet black. My Angelina has light brown hair like her mama but has a bit slight tan complexion whereas her mama is much paler. She’s gonna be a heartbreaker someday. 🙂 Anywho, I am glad you enjoyed today’s artwork. Take care, my friend!
