A Beacon of Hope -The Lighthouse

This is day 13 of the A to Z Challenge.   I first became intrigued with lighthouses in the early to mid 80s when DH began talking about going to Maine.  The first time to see one in person came in 1989 when we finally made it to New England for our 10th anniversary. Ever since that time, I’ve been crazy about them and am looking forward to one more up close look at these haunting beacons of hope.

I must confess, although I’m speeding entirely too much time on the colorization of each illustration I am thoroughly enjoying manipulating the various brushes and colors to render each finished artwork.  I duplicated my the final image to do further modifications to the sketch to add some texture.

Jesus is my lighthouse.  It is He who steers me clear of dangers and calms the storm.

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your day.  I’m heading over to the A2Z headquarters to leave my calling card and maybe I’ll take notice to see who else came to the party.  I’m closing with a new-to-me song that apparently was used in the Beijing Winter Olympics for Russian figure skaters, Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov performance. I hope you equally enjoy Patrick Watson’s “Lighthouse” (← song lyrics link) as much as I did.  This is CAAC signing off, I’ll be back tomorrow with the next letter in the alphabet!

  1. I also like lighthouses. Your colorization is excellent. You made it rather ominous, yet with that ray of hope.

  2. Beautiful. I’m enjoying your adding color to your sketches.

Love the video. Not heard that before.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  3. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Thankful Thursday and L-Day, dear friend!

I agree that there is something special about lighthouses. They are symbols of strength and beacons of hope. I too am fascinated by them and love to see them in paintings. My dad painted a lighthouse scene when he was roughly the age I am now. Your sketch is wonderful, brought back In Living Color, albeit muted color because it depicts a raging storm at night. The scene says it all. When we are lost in a storm, nothing give us greater comfort than that white light piercing the darkness and showing us the way back home. You produced another wonderful piece of art here. It is dramatic and inspiring.

I also very much enjoyed Patrick Watson’s “Lighthouse” song:

Leave a light on in the wild
    Cause I’m coming in
    A little blind

I might also mention two Lighthouse bands that have had hit records. In 1971, the Canadian rock band Lighthouse scored its biggest hit in the US. with the song “One Fine Morning.” The English pop band Edison Lighthouse is best known for their 1970 hit “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes).”

Thank you for the art and mewsic, dear friend Cathy. Have a Thankful Thursday and I’ll see you tamale on M-Day!
